for all ages!

Summer at Severn 2013 will be one to remember! Dive into some of our exciting new opportunities and enjoy the quality programs that have made our camps worth returning to year after year. This summer’s opportunities extend across three major categories: day camp, specialty camps and sports camps with extended hours available for most of our programs. This guide is to help you and your family decide the best comprehensive summer camp schedule just for you!

Severn Day Camp has headlined Severn’s summer programs for 40 years, and we look forward to another summer of fun and friendship. With a number of age-specific groups, Day Camp has much to offer for our preschool to Middle School campers. So much in fact, that many campers who attend an early session often decide to sign up for a second or even a third session.

We invite novice and experienced athletes alike to learn and sharpen their skills in a challenging but instruction-rich environment at one of Severn’s Sports Camps with offerings that include lacrosse, soccer, field hockey, football and basketball.

We offer an array of Specialty Camps for hands-on learning, giving students the chance to explore their passions – or develop one – in areas such as robotics, chess, guitar and computer animation. We are excited to once again invite you to spend your summer with us at Severn School.

If you have additional questions about Summer at Severn please visit our website at www.severnschool.com/Summer Programs

If not pre-registered for Extended Hours, campers who are brought to campus more than 15 minutes before their scheduled camp time or who are left on campus for more than 15 minutes after their scheduled camp time will be entered into the Extended Hours program, and parents will be billed the "drop-in" fee of $11 for each part of every hour used. The Extended Day program ends promptly at 6 pm. If campers are not collected by 6 pm, parents will be billed an additional late fee of $40 per quar-ter hour after 6 pm. Families must pre-register and pre-pay for the Extended Hours plans.

Severn Day Camp provides a safe and stimulating environment for students as young as age four through those entering 8th

grade. Each two-week session is made up of fun and educational activities centered on a different theme, culminating in a camp-wide open house for family and friends on the last day of the session.

Your child will be placed in an age-specific group led by a team of enthusiastic counselors who provide constant and careful supervision from the moment campers arrive at 9 am until the end of the day at 3 pm. The counselors guide campers through the day, participating with them in each activity, be it a nature trek or an exciting adventure to the ropes course, or a quiet lunch in the shade at our waterfront Outdoor Learning Center.

New! Blue Crabs and Comb Jellies will visit Severn School Chesapeake Campus three times a week (MWF) from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm for “playground adventures” and to eat lunch. After lunch they will join the other Severn campers at the pool.

Transportation is in accordance with the Severn School Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Maryland Youth Camp state regulations. The policy may be viewed at online registration.

Campers should bring a lunch and a refillable water bottle each day, as well as a swimsuit and a towel for the afternoon pool session. No open-toed shoes please. Please include camper’s name on all items brought to camp.

music, dance & dramaWhether your camper can carry a tune or not, he/she will have a great time belting out his/her favorite songs alongside friends and counselors. During daily music lessons, our experienced music director will introduce campers to a variety of new songs and instruments and hopefully sneak in a few old camp favorites!

artsSevern’s day campers have the opportunity to explore their creative side in one of the School’s light and spacious art studios. The art director will help campers with their daily inspirations while introducing them to new projects and techniques to further their artistic interests.

athleticsOur sports directors come up with many energetic games and team-building sports that ignite your campers’ competitive spirit to maximize the fun on summer days. A misting tent will keep everyone nice and cool all summer long.

camper’s choiceOur counselors reserve this part of the day to do something special for the campers each day. They have been known to organize a fun filled water day complete with a slip ‘n’ slide and water balloons, invite special guest visitors, and host camp-wide games.

playground adventuresNew! Severn’s youngest campers (Blue Crabs and Comb Jellies) will have the opportunity to visit the Severn School Chesapeake Campus for playground adventures three times a week (MWF) from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm. Campers will bounce, climb and dig, traverse the monkey bars, captain a ship, visit the lighthouse, and trike their way around our riding path. After eating lunch they will join the other Severn campers at the pool.

swimmingEach day comes to a refreshing end with a dip in the nearby Severna Park Community Center pool. Younger campers travel to the pool by bus, while older campers walk with their counselors. The pool itself is divided into six areas, with one area designated for each age group. The community center provides lifeguards each day, and the day camp staff adds to the level of both fun and safety with counselors in the water and supervising from the pool deck.

We are pleased that we will again offer our

older campers the opportunity to participate

in Severn Day Camp’s Community

Enrichment Program. Those campers who

choose to participate in our Community

Enrichment Program will have the unique

opportunity to discover one of Severn’s most

valuable assets – its community! Campers

will spend their mornings exploring the

many service related projects our community

has to offer through a variety of on and off

campus field trips. Interacting and playing

with animals from local animal shelters, par-

ticipating in the youth program for Habitat

for Humanity, creating gifts for local chil-

dren’s hospitals, visiting the nearby senior

living facility and welcoming home military

service members are a few of the opportuni-

ties that may await Severn Day campers who

choose to be a part of this exciting program.

Upon returning to campus, campers will still

enjoy lunch with the rest of their day camp

friends followed by our daily trip to the local

pool. Certificates of community service are

presented to each camper with their number

of hours served! We hope you join us for a

summer of fun and new opportunities.
