    Take part in GVPLs Summer Reading Club! Whether youre reading at home or on holidays, you can keep track of your reading and enjoy some incentives along the way. Staying in town? Youre invited to join us for a selection of amazing library programs at branches throughout Greater Victoria.

    June 15 Program registration begins at gvpl.ca or 250-940-4875.

    June 25 Drop by your local library to pick up a self-paced reading record any time during the summer.

    How Summer Reading Club Works

    Summer Reading Club is a self-paced program that encourages you to read throughout the summer. If you cant read yet, you can include stories that have been read to you.

    Step 1: Visit any branch of the Greater Victoria Public Library and pick up a reading record.

    Step 2: Read for a minimum of 20 minutes every day.

    Step 3: Each day, write down one thing youve read on your reading record just use one box per day so that you dont run out of room before the end of the summer!

    Step 4: After youve read for 7 days, visit the library and collect your weekly prize!

    Step 5: Repeat steps 2 to 4. Keep up the great work!

    For ages 2 and up and caregivers. Start off summer with songs! Groove to high-energy and catchy tunes with childrens entertainers The Kerplunks on the Main Stage at The Belfry Theatre. Presented by GVPL and The Belfry Theatre.

    Ticket Information:

    This is a General Admission ticketed event. Tickets are free but are subject to availability. Tickets are required for children, parents and caregivers. Babes in arms are not permitted in the auditorium. Children under 14 require adult supervision.

    Reserve your tickets by calling The Belfry box office at 250-385-6815 starting Monday June 15th at 3pm. Tickets are limited; please cancel if you cannot come. Reserved Tickets must be picked up at the Box Office before 6pm on June 25. After 6pm, unclaimed tickets will be available first-come, first-served.

    Summer Reading Club Book Parade

    For ages 12 and under. Bring your favourite book and carry it through an easy obstacle course in the Central Branch Courtyard. Each participant will enjoy a cupcake and fun activities. Dress up like your favourite book character to be entered into a draw for a bookstore gift certificate.

    Story Buddies: Tween Volunteers

    For ages 10-12. If you like working with children, enjoy stories, are a fluent English speaker and want to help young children with early literacy skills, we need you! Story Buddies tween volunteers pair with young children aged 4-6 to make an original story book. We provide training and, upon completion, a letter outlining your volunteer hours.

    First time Story Buddies Tween Volunteers must attend a Story Buddies Tween Training Session. Bring your completed Tween Volunteer Referral Form and register for a Story Buddies Training Session and Volunteer Session. Returning Story Buddies Volunteers do not need to repeat the training.
