I came in to Neill-Wycik as many have before me as a student at Ryerson Polytechnic in the Fall of 1992.With my proof of O.S.A.P funding, and proof of en-rollment in hand I went to the Housing Office , and filled out my Neill-Wycik Application for Housing. I have never looked back since. My field of study was the Diploma In Arts Program - a three year Certifi-cate Program. After move in during August of 1992; I quickly discovered the facilities that interested me most. The Photo Lab, and the Woodshop. After attending my first Social Activity Meeting in early September of 1992; I became the Facility Manager for the Photo-Lab.Since that time I have always been involved in volunteering with in the building. Neill-Wycik has ingrained in me the sense of Co-Operative values that I stand by today. I remember reading in the first Neill-Wycik Owners Manual a chart of what the Co-operative stood for:The Principles of Co-operation Neill-Wycik is a community, not just a place to keep your stuff. As such, we have a set of guidelines - called prin-ciples we strive to follow. They help us keep things in focus.

OPEN AND VOLUNTARY MEMBERSHIPYou must be a full-time student to be accepted into Neill-Wycik and we try to achieve a 50-50 male to female ratio. Apart from those guidelines, anyone can become a member, regardless of social, political, ethnic or religious affiliations.

DEMOCRATIC CONTROLMembers elect the Board of Directors at Neill-Wycik.

    Eugene Lovelock, [email protected]

Any rent increase or major policy change must be passed at a general meeting open to all mbers. If you have a criticism, or suggestion, you can express it at a board meeting, to the staff, or at a general meeting.

APOLITICALNeill-Wycik doesn't take sides on the political spec-trum. We will not make donations to onepolitical party (unlike many private organizations). Nor will we become involved in political movements for change not directly related to housing. We do, however, respect any member's activities in these areas.

A CO-OPERATIVE EDUCATIONAL EN-VIRONMENTNeill-Wycik is not just a student bedroom. By bring-ing a group of people together from aroundthe world, and supplying them with private and communal space, we hope to teach the art ofco-operation. By offering educational facilities and seminars in Current issues, we hope to teachthem skills and ideas they wouldn't be exposed to in your average highrise. By providingopportunities for volunteering and for working (starting a computer facility, working in the hotel, exhibiting art, or being on the board) we hope to create an environment where our members candevelop personal skills while contributing to their residential community.

NON-PROFITWe take in a certain amount of money from rents and the hotel and spend it on maintenance, staff salaries or other expenses. Anything left goes into our reserves. There is no person or group of people who benefit if we have a surplus; we all share in ourfinancial successes and failures.

The moment I read this - Neill-Wycik became more than just a place with affordable rents.Ever since my first year living at Neill-Wycik I have always done my best to make a realdifference in our Community. I was an active member on the Social Activity Committee from1993 until 1998, and since that time I have been involved with the Steamer since just before its renovation in 1999. There has never been a period where I was either on a Com-mittee,

Ive been a Wycik member for almost 15 years. During that time, I have worked on Mainte-nance and at the front desk, have been an R.A., man-aged the woodshop and served on several Boards over the years. All of this Gives me a good understanding of where our Co-op has been, and where we are on the path to.. My interest in serving on the Board is to help make Neill-Wycik more mem-ber-oriented as it was historically - until recently - and to reinstate the recently-reduced wide range of MCP opportunities to members. I want to help the Board and opera-tions return to a state of integrity and transparency; to bring Neill-Wycik back to a state of

involvement, and responsibility, we can keep housing charges low! -eryone pitches in, we keep costs to a minimum, and as a result, housing charges remain low. Without member involvement, housing charges will continue to rise needlessly, and we

statements. Having said that, I am really looking forward to supporting the Treasurer and the rest of the board in their mission to improve Neill-Wyciks

I moved to Neill-Wycik in September 2012 and felt so welcomed into the community by friendly neigh-

three years here. While at Niell-Wychik I hope to

I love that that Neill-Wycik has been able to provide -

cades and would like to see it continue to be a place students are proud to live. To aid Neill-Wycik in making a plan to pay down its mortgage faster while still being able to mak renovations. Its important to me that the mortgage is paid down because it will save the co-operative (and students) thousands of dollars in interest that can be redirected into updat-ing the building and keeping rent at its minimum, saving students as much money as possible.I also aspire to get involved with the rising social

MANAGING A FACILITY, OR DOING BOTH.Now as President of Neill-Wycik I have the honour of

the future of our home. With the help and commitment of our very energetic, and engaged

Board of Directors, I will work every day to make help make constructive change, and a positive

media committee and promote communication between the board and members within the co-operative. She has many ideas in regard to making important information more accessible to everyone. Natasha hopes to notify members about ways to get MCP hours, community events and more through means other than just posters.

By the end of her term Natasha hopes to have rejuve-nated Neill-Wycik Co-operative College and keep it a clean, safe and exciting place to live for students in downtown Toronto.

I am a passionate and caring individual who aspires to make positive change in society, starting with the student population at Neill Wycik. I have previously served as the President of Neill Wycik Cooperative and am currently a sitting Director and the CHFT delegate for the building. I am happy to share a smile with any member of the cooperative and hope to make Neill Wycik a better place to live. Neill Wycik is the largest student cooperative in the province, and I serve to represent the student population and their needs. I hope that the cooperative will focus on the

will lose what makes us better than rental housing. Together, we cwimple turn our Coop to a well-run, member-oriented residence with the facilities, spirit and Co-operative advantages that used to give us a waiting list that was longer than our membership list! we can do it - if we work together, cooperatively!

    Brandon Arkinson,

I am a problem solver who continues to over-come failures succeeding throughout life. One of the most memorable failures I overcame during my

-tion over time, by my swim teachers and reinforced by my mom, was a major factor on how i learned how to swim safely. As I slowly progressed through

to join the Nicholson Catholic College Swim Team and the Trenton Dolphin Swim Club a couple of

-cials eventually qualifying for Junior National at the club level. In addition to this I was awarded swim-mer and coach of the year a number of times. At the same time i was employed as a volunteer swim instructor and/or lifeguard at the YMCA.

I continued my competitive swimming at Ryerson University for a couple of years making a smooth transition into being employed as a swim instructor

    Academy.

swimming experience as a self employed coach, in-

    and Fast Fins.

swimming experience is to advocate for the safety of its members. As newly elected board member, who has served as a board member at large for one year at Ryerson University's CESAR, I will advocate for the mem-bers, act on and solve problems such as communica-tion that exists within our organization. I propose forming a communication committee; as we have done so in the past; to conduct research, plan, de-

no-web based communication platform. I am pas-sionate about improving communications as it is a factor for good governance within the membership

governance also requires those involved to follow -

table, inclusive, participatory, consensus oriented, responsive, transparent, accountable to the member whom the board serves. As newly elected board

will allow for good governance within the member-ship and throughout the organization.

Hello Neill Wycik! I am a fourth year Marketing Major at Ryerson, and Ive lived in the building for 3 years. In my spare time, I enjoy relaxing in the sun, playing or listening to music, and the small things

(feels nice eh?), or locating a lost $5 bill in my pants pocket (I know I had it all along, BUT IT STILL FEELS NEW DANG IT)

I want to be on the Board of Directors because I want to make change that members appreciate. My opinion on building matters will always and for-ever be the opinion of the collective membership. I always put the members' interests at the forefront of my mind when engaging in Board discussion and

to decision making. I will continue to empower

serving agendas. I strive to make Neill Wycik a better place to live for all students and young professionals. I will continue to promote Neill Wycik, and the coopera-tive values that are foundational to the buildings ex-istence. Remembering always; "A strong Neill Wycik depends on strong residents.

Its that time of the year again - time to suit up... and get networking.

March is the ideal month for interviews, mak-ing February the perfect month for setting up for these interviews. Its right before the tide

Dont ask them directly for a job. Rather, ask them about their own experiences and beat around the bush a bit. Get to know them and let them get to know you.

    Good luck!

Step 1: Go up to someone.

    Step 2: Introduce yourself.

    Step 3: Talk. About anything.

Step 4: Make an impression - try to talk about something youre passionate about.

Step 5: If you have a business card, give it

Step 6: Close it up. If its a professional, thank them for their time. If its a fellow student, say it was great meeting them. You can come up with an excuse for your abrupt leave - theres someone Ive been expect-ing and I think hes about to leave. or I see someone Ive been meaning to talk to.

She added a kind of very tiny but long mushrooms I had never seen in my life, called Enoki. I was really surprised when I saw her making tones of little holes in the raw chicken with a fork. Apparently, the Korean do this in order to let the chicken absorb the sauce even more deeply, which it a really great idea!!

Cinema Reviews Warm BodiesBy Amber Moores Myself and a few of my roommates decided to make use of the $5 Tuesday movie deal at Carlton Cinemas. Knowing little about the movie, we decided to see Warm Bodies.

and love, if youre into that kind of thing. Personally, Im not a fan of the whole Zombie Apocalypse theme but this movie made the cut. It was hilariously cheesy in a way you can only understand by seeing it for yourself. Its certainly not a movie that you need to see on the big screen but for a corny, clever, hilari-ous, and interesting movie Warm Bodies is a winner.

My prediction came true. One of my favorite bands of all time have released what I can con-

What she calls prog meanderings, I call progressive exploration. Anyway, back to Earth. My favourite tracks include the pre-release track shared on Youtube, "Mechanical Mind" (one of the longer tracks, and super technical), Empathy for the Enemy, and 'Kluskap O'com (also
