The Stillwater library is one of my very favorite places to play, and not just because it'smy home town, said Harper. The audiences are engaged and attentive, parents and kidsenjoy the programs together, and we have fantastic sponsors, staff, and volunteers. Idon't know of any other library that matches the size and quality of the Stillwater

    program!

Harper began dabbling in songwriting in 1989, when he entered the Masters program inmathematics at Oklahoma State University. He found he had a knack for entertainingneighborhood kids with his songs, and by the time he completed his degree in 1992 hewas fielding a slew of requests for appearances at schools and libraries. Two decades of summer library programs have lent meaning to Harpers work.

Its so important for kids to love reading, says Harper. I try to convey my ownexuberance for books and libraries through the songs.

Harper will perform at 10 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. For more information, includingsong lyrics and a schedule of appearances, visit www.MontyHarper.com .

On Wednesday, July 10 at 2 p.m., young adults are invited create mini-Zen gardens fromAltoid tins. The tins will be provided along with sand and material to create miniatureitems for the gardens like benches, rocks, ponds, statues and rakes.

Our young adult theme this summer is Beneath the Surface and one thing teens have but dont always show is stress and anxiety, said Scott Freeman, teen librarian. This project will be a nice way for them to relax. And lets face it, tiny gardens in a mini-tin just look cool.

Following the mini-gardens, participants can stick around to work with partners on their book trailers. The trailers will be due on Friday, July 12, and then screened the followingWednesday.

The young adult program is open to students going into 6-12 grades.

On Thursday, July 11, Summer Cinema presents a 2012 Dr. Seuss story. This PG filmabout a boy and a grumpy yet charming creature who fights to protect his world featuresthe voices of Zac Efron and Danny Devito. The film will be shown at 10 a.m. and 1:30
