COLLIER/LEE CHAPTER -

Florida Central

August, 2019

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT DIANE SCHWARTZ

Summertime

Summer in Southwest Florida is different from other parts of the country. It's hotter - for sure; its humid; and of course, we have the beautiful Florida flowers, magnificent sun and beaches. Many of our Hadassah friends and neighbors join many other snowbirds in heading north or west to cooler climes, family and vacation spots. So, what goes on for the rest of us? We enjoy each other's company during a slower pace of life. We enjoy less traffic, too, but we can't wait to welcome everyone back and share good times, Hadassah events and activities and enjoy reconnecting. Hadassah has been busy during June and July and we have much to share about new programs and activities. So, let's mark our

calendars for upcoming events and enjoy this Hadassah Happenings as the gateway to a great end of 2019 and wonderful "season" in 2020. First, thanks to Lee Henson and Linda Wertheim, Co-Vice

Presidents of Fundraising for arranging our first - not our last - Let's Go Shopping. We appreciate Random Works of Art for working

with us for purchases in the store and on-line. I am enjoying looking at my hand-blown glass paperweight (beautiful!) and others are enjoying their purchases as well. Coming up - thanks to hostess Sharon Cohan and coordinator

Susan Falkenstein, we are set to enjoy Summer Fun pot luck

dinner at Autumn Woods clubhouse. Mark your calendar for August 18th at 6:30 p.m. and call Susan to reserve your spot. See the specific information in this issue of Hadassah Happenings. In this issue, you will also find information about our L'Chaim List, with thanks to Carol Weisberg who is coordinating this effort and handling the details. Check out the information in this issue. I hope you join me in recognizing our children, grandchildren and family members while we support our chapter's goal of raising $18,000 so we can have a named room plaque noting our accomplishment. This is part of the National 360 Degrees Full Circle Campaign. Moving forward, you will see the actual L'Chaim List in future bulletins. Happily, we will work to supply magnetic name badges to members who would like them. For $9 each, let project coordinator, Louise Forman know if you would like to purchase one. Information is below in this issue of Hadassah Happenings. Thank you, Louise.

Save the date of October 16th for our JNF Blue Box Luncheon.

Thank you to our hostess Rhonda Brazina and coordinators Patti Bloom and Denise Sultan. Information is below. Pay attention to the really cute and sweet participant in the reservation information!

Of special note is our first Coffee & Chocolate event on August

14th. Hadassah in the Neighborhood coordinator Carol Ball is set to welcome new, transfer and members in her neighborhood who would like to learn more about what Hadassah is doing currently. Thank you, Carol. Special thanks to a powerful team of volunteers who, working with Co-Vice Presidents of Membership Donna Goldblatt and Belle Agronin, are calling members for whom we have no emails. We want to include everyone who wants to receive information to be able to learn about our activities. Thanks to Donna, Belle, Norma Small, Nettie Goldenberg, Lynn Wilner, Gale Lazarus, Elyse Morande and Linda Wertheim. Special thanks to Records Administrator Rona Senior for working through and sorting various lists so we can undertake this project.

We appreciate the ladies working on our December 15th Keepers of the Gate event. We are happy to announce that our speaker

is Hadassah National President Ellen Hershkin. Invitations are being prepared. Thanks to Ellen Harris, Fran Nossen, Nancy Wiadro, Gale Lazarus, Lee Henson, Linda Wertheim, Frances Nossen, Rhonda Brazina, Harrilee Shevin, Gayle Dorio, Carole Yellin, Rita Fleishmajer, Ruth Stockinger, Helene Weiss, Yael Shmookler, Major Gifts Officer, Betsy Silverfine Annual Gift Officer and Patricia Fleischman, Program Sponsor. Special thanks to Dr. Karine Ezrine, National HMO Vice Chair for her assistance. Thanks to Elyse Morande for working to arrange a Day in the District to meet our congressmen as we support The Never Again Education Act. She and her PRAZE (Program, Advocacy, Zionism and Education) committee - Sue Bellows, Lynn Wilner, Judy Donaldson and Susan Falkenstein are working toward launching a major effort in planning the Collier/Lee Hadassah Symposium focusing on women's health. More information to follow.

Watch for future details about the Collier/Lee Hadassah Community Leadership Award Luncheon to be presented

at our March 16, 2020 spring luncheon. It will be a special day honoring Ted Epstein and featuring entertainment by Carolann Sanita. Thanks to Lee Henson and Linda Wertheim and the Fundraising Team including Ida Margolis, Rhonda Brazina, Carol Weisberg, Amy Zusmanovich, Luba Rotsztain and Leda Lubin who are working on preliminary details now. Thanks to Arlene Yedid for special assistance. Coming up in 2020 are two Hadassah Presents...programs. Mark your calendars for January 16th at 7 p.m. for an Author Presentation and Reading by Elizabeth Fox, National Hadassah Board member and her husband. WE ARE GOING TO BE SO LUCKY: A World War II Love Story in Letters is a book based on letters between her parents during WWII. We hope to see you January 16, 2020. Information to follow. On February 27th at 1 p.m. Hadassah Presents...will feature Art Historian Joan Jacobs' Art Talk on Marc Chagall. Hadassah appreciates Marc Chagall's wonderful windows in our Ein Kerem Hadassah Hospital. Information to follow. Many thanks to Hadassah Happenings editor Carol Thompson-Finn and the E-Blast expert, Maureen Schaab. Their efforts have kept us well-informed in a timely fashion. We appreciate the continuing efforts of Treasurer Leda Lubin who keeps track of all we do and gladly assists as a need may arise.

Thanks to Debbie Kaprove, Recording Secretary and Nominating Committee Chair who is reaching out to members to help lead

Hadassah into the future.

Many thanks to Lauren Becker and Roberta Schwartz for their

efforts on behalf of the Evening Group.

Cards, Certificates, Trees and Tributes as well as

congratulatory and condolence notes from our chapter take

place whenever needed - including summer. Thanks to Mimi Cohn, Paula Berzon, Fran Nossen and Recording Secretary Iris Shur.

To our Non-Fiction Book Club, our Hadassah North Book Club and Study Group leaders and participants thanks for

enriching the lives of Hadassah members. To chairs Ida Margolis, Linda Wertheim, Judy Donaldson and Arlene Yedid - thank you. So, if I was writing my "school report" about what I AND WE did this summer, I think it would include all of the above. I would give us all an A+ for effort, creativity and dedication to such a meaningful and worthy cause as Hadassah.

Introductory Message Summer Fun

A note from Susan:

Join our Hadassah family for a summer get together that will be sure to bring a smile to your face! Come share a delicious potluck dinner and if you would like to tell us your summer memories just like they do on NPR (the MOTH story hour), if you are an NPR listener/fan. Let me know if you would like to participate. Tell us a story that transformed you or made a difference in your life. We can all laugh together and make this summer evening one to remember!!
