June Villani

Born the eldest of three, June was born and raised in Monticello, New York. She knew at a young age that she wanted to be a nurse. “Nursing College back in the day was for 3 years, a week off here and there, but no summer vacations,” she stated.

After college, June worked winters in the hospital. Comparing to how things have changed, she explained how she did nursing in the department that needed her that day. Whether it be Labor and Deliver, the Emergency Room, Operating Room or Supervisor, she was always ready and willing. However, the summers were different. She and her husband, Anthony, spent summers in their small Ice Cream/Fast Food Shop serving the community. “That was when we were raising our children,” she stated, “when we moved from Monticello to Norwich, we brought our summer business with us.”

Eventually after being longtime empty nesters, June and Anthony moved closer to Saratoga County. June recalled moving into her daughter’s house after her husband of 58 years passed away. When her daughter’s house was just too big, they both knew it was time for a move right to Saratoga Springs.

June loved the concept of Independent Living. After touring The Summit at Saratoga, she knew it was the best one suited for her. “The secure feeling, the freedom to do as much or as little and, of course, the location, were a few of the top reasons I loved The Summit.” She continued to explain how wonderful it was to have a pool and all the amenities in one building. June takes part in many programs including exercise classes, outings, poker and entertainment. Her favorite being, lectures and presenters.

Happy Spring! As the saying goes, March comes “In like a lion, out like a lamb.” We have certainly had our share of a “roaring” winter, so let us hope for early sun and warm, balmy weather. However, no matter

what the weather brings, we have another fun filled month upon us, as well as new neighbors to meet and welcome.

In celebration of St. Patrick’s Day this month, we will feature Irish Step Dancers, Irish Coffees, making homemade Irish soda bread and a St. Patty’s party… we all have a little bit of green in us!

Some highlights this month include:

A lecture on the history of tea and the Victorian Era followed by a Victorian tea

A performance by jazz band, The AlyKats

A performance by Skidmore’s acapella group The Sonneteers

A presentation on India and Buton

Day trips offered by Yankee Trails

Performance of Saratoga Springs High School play “How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying”

Lunches out for Saratoga Springs Restaurant Week and The Thirsty Owl

Our new Summit Service Club initiative collecting non-perishable donations for the Wilton Food Pantry

Take a look at all of our Summit Supper Club offerings this month, including a corned beef dinner with Chef Mickey! Stop in the office and sign up for a fabulous dinner. Join other residents and dine in our Tavern or take it back to your apartment.

Keep a look out for our leprechaun this month and his pot of gold!

“Volunteering is a work of heart”Summit Service Club

Help us help them serve families in the Town of Wilton who live in food insecure households.Did you know an average of 140 families are walking through their doors every month?

Paper towels, tissues, toilet paper, and canned fruit are just a few examples of items needed. Please drop-off donations in the Great Room on Wednesday, March 20.

Live Well Age Well

The Connected Life Program focuses on highlighting the four key aspects we believe are a vital part of a healthy, happy, and balanced life.

Residents are able to choose activities and programs that complement their personal tastes in Health & Fitness, Lifelong Learning, Community Activities, and Leisure & Recreation. The best part? All programs are free for our residents along with a daily continental breakfast.

This includes all of our wellness activities, referrals to community service providers, an array of educational programs, choices of weekly recreational events, regular social opportunities and gatherings, transportation services for shopping, medical visits, and so much more!

As seniors, sometimes we think we have seen (and know) it all, but as John Wooden once said “It’s what you learn after you know it all that counts.” We have monthly lectures and presentations on an array of topics to stimulate the mind.

LEARNING

Being part of a community is more than just being neighbors. It’s individuals com-ing together to build each other up, share similar interests, laugh together, and help each other grow.

ACTIVITIES

Healthy living is an integral part of the Connected Life Program. Whether you’re a devoted yoga class-goer, enjoy taking evening walks with a friend, love water aerobics, or just need to meditate in the morning before you start your day, our Health program has something for you.

HEALTH

Summit residents are never without an opportunity to have some fun. Whether it’s trying their hand at a friendly game of cards, unwinding in the salon, perfect-ing their cross stitch, or just relaxing and catching up with other residents.
