Director’s Message Greetings from my living room home office. Our motorsports operations will remain closed through the end of the month. At this time, we plan to be open starting May 1. We will have an update to pass along on April 15th. As many of you may have seen on our social media posts, we are trying to use this time wisely. When safe to do so we have been working on the facility so that when we do get back to action we will be able to deliver an exceptional experience to you. Several of you have asked about private testing during the shut down. We did consult our attorney to see if this was possible. After carefully reviewing the Governor’s Executive Order we have been advised by counsel to keep motorsports operations completely closed at this time. Our office has worked hard to be in contact with the clubs and individuals who have had their events postponed and we stand ready to work with each of you to ‘recover’ as much of the season as possible. We have already floated some ‘creative’ ideas and your cooperation will be much appreciated as we move forward. For those of you in essential careers; especially healthcare workers and first responders, we thank you for your dedicated service. Let’s all stay safe and look forward to a day when this is a fading vision in our rear view mirrors. Director of Motorsports Operations Summit Point Motorsports Park April 2020 Did You Know? Director’s Message

Greetings from my living room home office.

So what to do while on-track activities are on hold? In a safe and socially distant way, we have gone to work making Summit the best it can be. When you return you will see a freshly painted Summit circuit, some updated curbing and more. It may seem like an odd time for us to be "spending money" but we want to be ready to deliver to you the best on track experience possible.

Time Travel by: C.W. Armbrust

There is a place not far from here that was built for a single purpose, a 35-foot-wide, 10,560-foot ribbon of hard surface asphalt which forms a completed loop, lies inside a fenced area with limited access. There are other similar installations of varying lengths nearby and even more located in many states across the nation. The sole purpose for the existence of these closed loops is simply time travel.

According to Doctor Emmett Brown, the theory is: based on tech specs, a DeLorean DMC-12 is 4216 mm long. The car then travels its own length of 4216mm at 88 mph in 107.2 milliseconds. This is the minimum time a flux capacitor is actually in effect. So, considerable modifications along the lines of building it up to 1.21 gigawatts (1,620,000 hp) to take the DeLorean beyond the 85-mph speedometer display limit and back in time.

A Volkswagen Rabbit doesn’t need quite that much horsepower to improve lap times. Time spent improving each lap pays off in taking less time to complete the next lap and so on. Running for time, or in the heat of competition, as time passes, our goal is to achieve ever shorter time each lap until our arrival across the timing line is lower than the last.

Each weekend, sometimes even on weekdays, people come from distances near and far to spend days in pursuit of that elusive tenth of a second, or trimming a few hundredths here and there until the time spent on a lap is less that it was when the effort started. Rules are pushed, limits are taken to the edge, sometimes limits are temporarily exceeded, but not for long.

The thought of spending hours gaining a second is intriguing to many. Nearly identical cars are placed on the time loop with each driver thinking, “This is it, this is my time to save time,” and take less time than any of the others to run fifteen or twenty laps, simply in order to arrive back at the same place they started in less time than anyone else. Fifty Miattas with fifty drivers each dressed in their time travel suits wait on the mark until the time window opens.

For the DeLorian, the start time was held until 1:16AM, the exact time of the anticipated lightning strike, ensuring enough horsepower was developed to achieve the added 3-mph over the 85 mph to arrive in 1955. That was a pretty good lap time, and just short of hitting the wall.

Several clubs and organizations offer programs to help drivers learn how to drive their vehicles to the point of maximum performance. Time well spent trimming time, as time travels into the future.

Within the racing community, class rules limit the modifications and horsepower in order to keep things safe and reasonably equal. It also makes it a little easier to find the drivers at the end of the race.

Assetto Corsa: Drift Nirvana Server

Setupby Drift Instructor:

Yoshi Jeffrey

Assetto Corsa is arguably an out of date game but it maintains a strong following and mod community. For drifting, it’s become a de-facto sim for the PC.

This article will go into basic setup to get you into the official Summit Point Assetto Corsa Server.

Prerequisites – What do I need?Assetto Corsa is a PC based game. IE Not PS4/XBox. Purchase the $20 option. The other options are simply expansion packs – https://store.steampowered.com/app/244210/Assetto_Corsa/

Cars – Tando Buddies’ pro/am cars

1.2 Hours at The PointTHE RESULTS

Round 1 – The 1.2-Hours at The PointA stellar turnout for the historically incorrect 1.2 Hours at The Point iRacing event on Friday evening, March 27th, with 57 virtual drivers’ taking the grid in one of two classes for the 72-minute endurance race.

When the dust from the turn 3 gravel runoff settled, it was Indiana’s Paul Gibson’s Ford Mustang FR500S taking the checked flag in the Big Bore class and Ohio’s DJ Alessan-drini who bested all other Global MX-5 Cup racers.

If you missed it or want to re-watch all the action go to https://youtu.be/jySXqpb1sXk.

Special guest, Edwin Pardue of Summit Point Motorsports Park was on hand during the live-stream to fill us in on the current state of affairs with the Summit Point facility and their plans for when we are free and clear to return to the sport we all love.

Washington DC Region member, Mark Shrivastava was the lucky recipient of a Friday at the Track (FATT) entry cour-tesy of Edwin Pardue, Director of Motorsport Operations and the folks at Summit Point.

The next WDCR iRacing event will take place on Friday April 10th, on the newly scanned Lime Rock Park circuit. The format is a little different from Round 1 and driver’s will be competing in either the Audi RS3 LMS TCR car or the Mazda Global MX-5 Cup car for 45-minutes. Details for viewing the race live will be available soon so keep an eye on the WDCR Facebook page for more information as we get closer to the event.
