Sunday 29th Sunday 16th October in Ordinary Time 2016 (Year C) Finishing Strong When You Have Faith in God We're all familiar with times in our lives when we've had to endure hardship and adversity to see a project or goal through to the bitter end. For some it could be studying for a degree, others it’s enduring a tough job or jobs or dealing with a long term health issue. Some of us even do this voluntarily as a past time, I'm talking to all you marathon runners and endurance bike riders out there. Today's readings are built around these themes of persistence and staying committed to your goal or purpose in spite of adversity and in spite of wanting to chuck it all in, for God will recognise and reward you for your efforts. As the Jacarandas come into bloom once again signalling for many of our young people that exams are around the corner and that the end of the year is nigh. For us with a child completing his final year at high school we can really relate to the idea of persistence and staying in there. So for all of you reading this who've had to endure, be it study, ill health, work, unemployment or other situations of the human condition, take heart from today's reading that God hears your prayer and that he rewards your persistence. In fact, as Jesus indicates in the Gospel story, God sees your persistence in prayer as a sign of faith in him and he will answer your prayer. Like Moses in the first reading and the pilgrim's prayer in the responsorial psalm, keep your focus on God as you near the end of your 'journey'. Like the persistent widow in the Gospel, don't give up and you will finish strong when you have faith in the power of God in your life. Like the well-known prayer states, 'Let Go and Let God' come and take over your struggles. For in spite of your persistence, there will come a point when you surrender your control to God and it is in that moment that you step out in faith. God wants us to have faith in him. We show this to him, not only by being persistent in our belief but also when we let go of trying to control all aspects of our life and let God take over. When we do this he will carry us over the finish line and we will Finish Strong ! So to all of our students finishing year 12 and their parents, hang in there and have faith that God will carry you through this last month of your high school life and to everyone else be persistent in your prayers and courageous in your faith. May you have a blessed week Ben Norris (Parishioner). 16th October in Ordinary Time

2016 (Year C)

Finishing Strong When You Have Faith in God We're all familiar with times in our lives when we've had to endure hardship and adversity to see a project or

goal through to the bitter end. For some it could be studying for a degree, others it’s enduring a tough job or jobs

or dealing with a long term health issue. Some of us even do this voluntarily as a past time, I'm talking to all you

marathon runners and endurance bike riders out there.

Today's readings are built around these themes of persistence and staying committed to your goal or purpose in

spite of adversity and in spite of wanting to chuck it all in, for God will recognise and reward you for your efforts.

As the Jacarandas come into bloom once again signalling for many of our young people that exams are around

the corner and that the end of the year is nigh. For us with a child completing his final year at high school we can

really relate to the idea of persistence and staying in there.

So for all of you reading this who've had to endure, be it study, ill health, work, unemployment or other situations

of the human condition, take heart from today's reading that God hears your prayer and that he rewards your

persistence. In fact, as Jesus indicates in the Gospel story, God sees your persistence in prayer as a sign of

faith in him and he will answer your prayer.

Like Moses in the first reading and the pilgrim's prayer in the responsorial psalm, keep your focus on God as

you near the end of your 'journey'. Like the persistent widow in the Gospel, don't give up and you will finish

strong when you have faith in the power of God in your life.

Like the well-known prayer states, 'Let Go and Let God' come and take over your struggles. For in spite of your

persistence, there will come a point when you surrender your control to God and it is in that moment that you

step out in faith.

God wants us to have faith in him. We show this to him, not only by being persistent in our belief but also when

we let go of trying to control all aspects of our life and let God take over. When we do this he will carry us over

the finish line and we will Finish Strong !

So to all of our students finishing year 12 and their parents, hang in there and have faith that God will

carry you through this last month of your high school life and to everyone else be persistent in your

prayers and courageous in your faith.

May you have a blessed week Ben Norris (Parishioner).
