Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.

Christ’s Ambassadors Youth Choir; John and Lisa Wilson, DirectorsIn Christ alone my hope is found. He is my light, my strength, my song; this Cornerstone, this solid ground, firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace, when fears are stilled, when strivings cease. My Comforter, my all in all , here in the love of Christ I stand. In Christ alone,

who took on flesh, fullness of God in helpless Babe. This gift of love and righteousness, scorned by the ones He came to save; ‘til on the cross as Jesus died, the wrath of God was satisfied. For every sin on Him was laid; here in the death of Christ I live. There in the ground His body lay; Light of the World by darkness slain; then bursting forth in glorious day, up from the grave He rose again! And as He stands in victory, sin’s curse has lost its grip on me; for I am His and He is mine, bought with the precious blood of Christ. No guilt in life, no fear in death, this is the power of Christ in me; from life’s first cry to final breath, Jesus commands my destiny. No power of hell, no scheme of man can ever pluck me from His hand; ‘till He returns or calls me home, here in the power of Christ I stand!

† apoStleS’ creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic (universal) church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

† gloria patri No. 622

† reading of the ScriptureS James 1:19-21 (ESV)Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

Missions

Missions Moment - Richard and Barbara Altork serve as missionaries with Wycliffe Bible Translators and supported by NPC. For many years they lived in the Philippines; however, due to Richard's health concerns they presently reside in North Carolina completing translations there. They specialize in Filipino & Indonesian language groups. Recently, they participated in the translation of the Lik New Testament, currently in the printing phase. Barbara is traveling to the Philippines to facilitate 5-day Bible Clubs & to attend a publication/archiving workshop. These clubs have drawn as many as 300 children to hear the gospel in the past. Richard also writes a free, daily, email message called "Soul Food" to cheer and inspire. Please pray for the success of the 3 Bible Club programs this month and for their ongoing work of translation.

The Encourager - Self Controlby Rev. William C. Lamkin

We live in an age of impulsiveness. Advertisements bombard us in magazines, the newspaper, and the internet for things we probably do not need. But, the ads make it seem like our life will be woefully incomplete without these products. Additionally, our culture is very impulsive. We want what we want when we want it and we don’t want anyone or anything to get in the way of acquiring what we want.

Years ago, a pastor-friend was concerned about how the young people in that community were being spoiled. Parents were routinely giving in to the temptation to give their children whatever they asked for as soon as they asked for it. It was not uncommon to see young people driving expensive cars, wearing expensive clothes and enjoying expensive entertainment. While there are great blessings in generosity, there is a fine line between generosity and opulence. This pastor began a series of sermons on self-control and his regular theme was simple: “we should practice and teach delayed gratification.” This was a very helpful series. Not only did he teach about delaying (or even denying) the impulse to acquire stuff, he talked about how it is helpful for us to delay the gratification of simply “getting our way” and being impulsive in our relationships – selfishness.

As Spring has brought us the beauty of blooming trees and plants, the Apostle Paul wrote that we should seek to cultivate the beauty of God’s fruit blossoming in our lives, homes and communities.

It is a very natural desire to seek our own interests above those of others. And, this can cause great damage in our relationships; just as spending too much money on stuff can cause damage to our finances. Self-control is not easy to live out, but the fruit of self-control is seen in the quality of our relationships. So, how does this work out?

All of us have been blessed of God with gifts and qualities that are highly beneficial. However, too often we elevate our own desires and gifts over those of others. We are guilty of not listening, ignoring, pushing our agendas ahead of others, and generally being selfish and rude (“love is not rude” I Cor. 13:5).

God is calling us to be self-controlled. The success of our relationships will “fly or die” based on how well we love one another. Our love for one another can be seen in how well we exercise self-control. Paul wrote, “Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others” (Philippians 2:3-4).

As we seek to build up others, let us exercise the love of self-control and see God bring forth a beautiful harvest of fruit in His Body. “The fruit of the Spirit is … self control; against such things there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22 -23)
