Order of WorshipThe Lord’s Day July 7, 2013 11:00 a.m.

Rev. James R. Carter, Senior Pastor

Scripture for Silent Meditation and prayer (10:55 a.m.) Psalm 95:2-7 (ESV) Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker! For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.

† invocation and the lord’S prayer (sung) No. 426Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.

† prayer of confeSSion from Psalm 51:1-6, 10-12, 15-17Have mercy on me, O God, in your faithful love, in your great tenderness wipe away my offences; wash me thoroughly from my guilt, purify me from my sin. For I am well aware of my offences, my sin is constantly in mind. Against you, you alone, I have sinned, I have done what you see to be wrong, that you may show your saving justice when you pass sentence, and your victory may appear when you give judgment, remember, I was born guilty, a sinner from the moment of conception. But you delight in sincerity of heart, and in secret you teach me wisdom. God, create in me a clean heart, renew within me a resolute spirit, do not thrust me away from your presence, do not take away from me your spirit of holiness. Give me back the joy of your salvation, sustain in me a generous spirit. Lord, open my lips,

and my mouth will speak out your praise. Sacrifice gives you no pleasure, burnt offering you do not desire. Sacrifice to God is a broken spirit, a broken, contrite heart you never scorn. Amen.

† reading of the ScriptureS Galatians 5:1-6 (ESV)For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. Look: I, Paul, say to you that if you accept circumcision, Christ will be of no advantage to you. I testify again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is obligated to keep the whole law. You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace. For through the Spirit, by faith, we ourselves eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love.

Philip Alongi, Soloist; Sanctuary Choir; Dr. John L. Wilson, DirectorIn peace we have come to pray and to seek the Lord today. For salvation from His hand, for the healing of our land, let us pray. Lord, have mercy, for we have placed all our hopes in Thee! For our sin, we repent, O Lord; we believe Your holy Word. Have mercy, Lord, we pray, and take all our sins away, Kyrie, Christe (Lord, Christ). If You would mark iniquity, Lord, who could stand?
