Dear Brothers and Sisters:

This past weekend, two churches were reported to have been deliberately burned — two Catholic churches, one in Florida and one in California. Things like these make me shake my head in disbelief. I really wonder what is going on. I think the world has gone crazy, and this makes me so sad. I listen mostly to Christian music, and one song, We All Bleed the Same by Mandisa, really touched my heart. This is what Mandisa says about what is happening in our country, what is happening to our brothers and sisters. I believe it is worth a read.

“I wanna say something to everyone, in a spirit of humility, a spirit of meekness and a spirit of Christ-like love. There’s chaos and calamity in the world. And there's so much hurt and distrust. When police are killed, we need to say something. When black boys are killed, we need to say something. And when we don't say something, we're saying something. We have the spirit of redemption when we speak at our concerts and our churches. I beg of you, let's ask the people that we are accountable to stand in front of to pray with us for healing.”

The following are the lyrics to the song We All Bleed the Same. They are powerful.

Refrain: We all bleed the same We’re more beautiful when we come together

We all bleed the same So tell me why, tell me why

We’re divided Woke up today

Another headline Another innocent life is taken

In the name of hatred So hard to take

And if we think that it’s all good Then we’re mistaken

‘Cause my heart is breaking (Refrain)

Are you left? Are you right?

Pointing fingers, taking sides When are we gonna realize?

(Refrain) If we’re gonna fight

Let’s fight for each other If we’re gonna shout

Let love be the cry (Refrain)

Tell me, who are we to judge someone By the kind of clothes they’re wearing

Or the color of their skin? Are you black? Are you white?

Aren’t we all the same inside? Father, open our eyes to see!

PLANS FOR COLUMBARIUM AT ST. JOSEPH PARISH

The building on the southeast corner of the church parking lot, infor-mally known as the “convent,” has not been occupied since Sister Joan and Sister Jean Marie, our Salvatorian Sisters, returned to Mil-waukee, Wisconsin in 2018. The building is scheduled to be razed in the next two months.

Several suggestions for the future use of this site have been made. After some consideration, and in consultation with the St. Joseph Campus Modernization Committee and the Parish Finance Commit-tee, I have decided that we will use the site for a parish columbar-ium. For those not familiar with the term “columbarium,” it is a structure consisting of a series of niches along a wall to accommo-date the cremated remains of the dead. The columbarium on our parish grounds will provide a peaceful, intimate setting for prayerful remembrance of loved ones, which will be accessible at any time.

We have a benefactor who has expressed an interest in funding the initial phases of the columbarium in honor of the Society of the Di-vine Savior (Salvatorians) and Father Gary New, S.D.S.

We will continue to provide you with information as this project unfolds.

Fr. Joe

(Refrain) Only love can drive out all the darkness

What are we fighting for? We were made to carry one another

We were made for more! (Refrain)

So, Father God, I pray That our families will come together right now

And seek Your face You will forgive our sins

And You will heal our incredible land In the name of the only Savior, Jesus Christ

Amen

May God continue to bless us with faith and courage to stand up for what is right and true. You are in my daily thoughts and prayers. Have a blessed day.

FUN WITH FRIENDS will host a rosary knotting class with no more than ten participants to accommodate social distancing. If you would like to participate, please call the parish office at 256-534-8459.

The fresh flower arrangements in the sanctuary this weekend are

in honor of Cathy Filippo.

PLEASE NOTE that all summer camps at St. John Paul II Catholic High School have been cancelled.
