CPR is not on the job training; don’t wait until it’s too late! The Facts:

Sudden Cardiac Arrest is when someone unexpectedly collapses, and their heart stops. They’re not breathing.

They need CPR immediately. It happens nearly 400,000 times a year to people of all ages, races, and health conditions. The victim’s chance of survival decreases every minute without CPR, and after 10 minutes with no in-

tervention your loved one is gone. CPR & AED is the true life saving combination.

To register, please visit: www.howardcountymd.gov/CPRsignup.htm

Do you know how to save someone’s life? Get the facts. Howard County Fire and Rescue’s CPR Team will be at SJBC on

the following Saturday’s from 9 a.m.—Noon: May 23rd, Aug. 8th and Oct. 10th.

Sponsored by the SJBC Men’s Ministry

SJBC MEMBERSHIP CLUSTER MINISTRY ~ “Growing Smaller As We Grow Larger”

If you have been trying to find a way to connect with God and His family in 2015, this is your chance. In order to provide the kind of community that is necessary and desired, our church is moving towards build-ing smaller communities – membership clusters. Joining a cluster is a great way to get to know each other and grow closer – to each other and God. In the cluster ministry, you will experience honest com-munication, deeper friendships and a growing intimacy with God.

Please check out the literature rack near the Information Center for a list of our active clusters.

1st & 3rd Tues. of each month 7 p.m.

Room 157

Join us as we discover something new, together -- how to appreciate our blessings and best serve God in our season of singleness. There will be prayer, reading of Scripture & fellowship. Feel free to bring and be responsible for your children who can stay in an adjoining room while we meet.

For more information, please contact Sis. Cecily Christian at [email protected]

Stay tuned for announcements in the church bulletin, monitors lo-cated throughout the building and on the church’s website. We promise the sessions will be brief and very informative. By the way, an added benefit of attending is that you will also get to meet other St John members who live in your “neck of the woods”.

SJBC Deacons: “We Serve You - If You Let Us.”

Over the next several weeks, each deacon will be inviting their current and new members to a “Utilizing My Deacon Information Session” designed to ensure that members: (1) know their deacon and (2) know ex-actly how to best maximize support from their deacon.

HC Nutritional Standards Legislation

In order to help reverse this troubling trend, SJBC has partnered with The Horizon Foundation and other community partners to promote alternatives to sugary drinks. For the past two years, soda consumption in Howard County has declined 2 to 3 times more than the rest of the nation. We want to keep this trend going. This would be a small but important step to improve the health of its employees and make healthy food and drink choices more abundantly available to all who use county parks or participate in govern-ment programs. On June 1st, the County Council will be voting on legislation to re-establish reasonable nutritional standards for food and beverages sold on county property.

SJBC members and friends are being asked to join this fight. We are asking you to get involved by com-pleting & turning in a Nutritional Standards Legislation Support Card to the County Council TODAY, Sun., May 10th AND attend a public hearing for the bill, on Mon., May 18th at 7:30 p.m., at the Banneker Rm., George Howard Building, 3430 Court House Drive, Ellicott City, MD 21043. We have a large goal of 300-350 people showing their support. Supporters should arrive at 7:15 p.m.

Nearly half of African American children will develop diabetes in their lifetime. We know from the cur-rent research that sugary drinks are a leading driver of diabetes, obesity and other chronic diseases. This is the first generation of children that may live shorter lives than their parents.

We are looking for 60 SJBC members to join us for this event. We want to show the Council that we are power players in the county. We will start with a press con-ference showing our support for 15% workforce housing in Downtown Columbia to the County Coun-cil and County Executive. We will then all go from the press conference into the Council Hearing on Nutritional Standards to uphold the strides Howard County has made in improving the health of our youth and families.
