I would like to submit my spontaneous letter of application to a possible place in the context of Information Technology in order to apply the acquired knowledge and develop my skills and competences in a company operating in a international level.

My name is Helder Silva, resident in the city of Maia, district of Porto, Portugal. I´m a native of Johannesburg, South Africa, therefore, mastered the English language. I'm fairly easily in language learning. Besides mastered the Portuguese and English native languages, I have excellent skills in Spanish language and academic knowledges of French language. Actually, I’m learning Norwegian language by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology - Norwegian on the Web (www.ntnu.edu/now) and Folium Forlag (www.folium.pt/). I have more than 10 (ten) years of relevant experience in several functions regarding Information Technology, such as Administrator of Systems, Network and Helpdesk and IT Consultant Manager. • Participation in the seminar about "Agile and Plan-Driven Methods: Differences, Strengths and Weaknesses" that took place on 25th and 26th October 2007 at the Amphitheater B303, at the ISEP-DEI (Superior Institute of Engineering of Porto - Department of Computer ScienceEngineering). Guided by Professor Eddie Gray of School of Engineering and Computing at the University of Glasgow, UK. This seminar, is divided into two sessions, aimed to clarify the differences, strengthsand weaknesses of Agile Methodologies and Directed Methodologies by Project.

• On 14th November 2007 took place in ISEP, auditorium E, at 14:30 p.m., a workshop entitled "Artificial Intelligence and research in Superior Institutes of Engineering". This workshop aimed to promote the strengthening of cooperation between the Superior Institutesof Engineering. It was intended, in a tone of sharing, that institutions perspective on the state ofResearch & Development and future possibilities of collaboration. The workshop will include work presentations developed in the institutions, in the field of Artificial Intelligence. This is the 2nd edition of this event and was organized in the context of the QTDEI initiative(Wednesday afternoon at DEI), at Department of Computer Science Engineering (DEI) of ISEP andPortuguese Chapter of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society.

• Participation in the event "Microsoft SilverLight & ImagineCup 2008", held on 13th November 2007, H202 Amphitheatre at ISEP facilities. The Silverligth is a platform for designers and developers can collaborate on applicationsdevelopment visually appealing and can be run on multiple browsers, with the presence of thelecturer Nuno Godinho (Microsoft Portugal). The ImagineCup is a programming contest held worldwide, with the presence of the lecturer Bruno Tavares (Microsoft Portugal and former studentat ISEP).

• Participation in the QTDEI session (Wednesday afternoon at the Department of Computer Science Engineering), with the theme "Intellectual property, authorship, plagiarism: rights, (ab)usesand challenges (historical and philosophical issues, legal, social and technological)", held on 5th December 2007, at 14:30 p.m., in the auditorium E at ISEP facilities.

• Participation in the lecture "Sourcerer and CodeGenie: Searching, Slicing and Dicing OpenSource Code" with the presence of the lecturer Dra. Cristina Videira Lopes, University ofCalifornia, Irvine. Lecture held at FEUP (Faculty of Engineering University of Oporto) on 20th December 2007, at 14:30 p.m., B026 classroom, to attend a meeting of ProDEI (Doctoral Program in Computer Science Engineering) and give a lecture open to the public on one of their researchprojects in progress. Cristina Videira Lopes, is one of the co-inventors of "Aspect Oriented Programming", a programming technology considered in 2001 by MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) as "one of the 10 emergent technologies that will change the world".

• Participation in the lecture "Quality certification in software companies” oriented by Cristina Henriques, Quality director of the company “I2S Informática - Sistemas e Serviços, SA”, which took place on 16th May 2008, H202 classroom, at ISEP facilities. The quality has become a differentiator factor in an increasingly global and competitive market. Factors, such as, lower costs, shorter deadlines, greater predictability and greater satisfaction among employees, customers and users, and better quality assurance, require the continuingimprovement of software development processes. In this context, this presentation intended to introduce the theme of quality of process and software product and present some contributions to the implementation of ISO 9001:2000 in software companies.

• Participation in the QTDEI session (Wednesday afternoon at the Department of Computer Science Engineering) entitled "Emotions and Social Computing in Artificial Intelligence (AI)", jointly organized with DEI (Department of Computer Science Engineering at ISEP), and GECAD (Research Group on Knowledge Engineering and Decision Support at ISEP) and APPIA(Portuguese Association for Artificial Intelligence), which took place on 12th June 2008, at 14:15 p.m. in the auditorium E at ISEP facilities. This QTDEI constituted - 4th Meeting in Artificial Intelligence - Emotions and Social Computing (4thTeIA-ESC), which aims to promote discussion around the theme "Emotions and Social Computingin the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI)", trying to inject dynamism, into the scientific area of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the emerging developments in the field of Emotional Systems and social interaction, with special emphasis on the contribution that AI has given or may give to suchdevelopments.




• Participation in a workshop dedicated to the theme "Web2.0 / Accessibility / Frameworks / Rapid-Prototyping", held in an informal setting, among developers, in the sense of sharingexperiences/resources. Workshop sponsored by the Basepoint.pt company and the presence of João Neto, Managing Partner of Basepoint, which took place on 28th June 2008, from 15:00 to 17:00 p.m..

• Participation in the training "Inventions: How to protect and write a patent application?". In the

field of protection strategy and appreciation of the intellectual capital generated at the Polytechnic of Porto, the OTIC-Office of Technology Transfer and Knowledge promoted on 15th July 2008 this training at ISEP-IPP facilities.

• Participation in the context of the QTDEI initiative, the Department of Computer Science

Engineering (DEI/ISEP) and the Portuguese Chapter of IEEE Computational Intelligence Societyorganized another edition of "Seminars ISE's - Artificial Intelligence", held in the field of traffic science established between ISE's – Superior Institutes of Engineering. This event also featured the participation of the Research Group on Knowledge Engineering and Decision Support(GECAD), of Superior Institute of Engineering of Lisbon (ISEL) and Superior Institute ofEngineering of Coimbra (ISEC). This seminar took place on 12th November 2008, 14:30 p.m., in auditorium E at ISEP facilities.

• Participation in the 1st International Week of ISEP, which took place on 18 and 19 November 2008, under which held two lectures: o “Wireless Networks and Applications”, Prof. Lieven De Strycker, Katholieke Hogeschool

Sint Lieven, Gent, Belgium; o “Image Enhancement through Histogram Modification”, Prof. Joseph Barsics, Haute École

de la Province de Liège, Liège, Belgium. • Participation in the lecture presented by MDevices/NDrive regarding to the theme "Development

of Mobile Applications", which took place on 12th December 2008, 20:30 p.m., B401 classroomat ISEP facilities. The presentation was structured in 2 parts: Part 1 (Mário Couto/MDevices): Windows Mobile Market - Models on the market and its potentialities, software utilities and market needs. Part 2 (Hugo Barrote/MDevices): Windows Mobile Development - Challenges and limitations on the equipments, tools, frameworks and tips for development.

• Participation in the workshop "The use of free and open software", held at ISEP on 13th March 2009, Auditorium E, from 14:30 to 17:45 p.m..

• Participation, organized by DEI/ISEP - Department of Computer Science Engineering at ISEP, in two lectures whose topics were: o "Operating Systems" - Prof. Romualda krauneviciene, University of Kaunas - Lithuania, which

took place on 17th March 2009, 14:30 to 16:00 p.m. and 16:10 to 17:30 p.m., amphitheater B303 at ISEP facilities;

o "Programming in Pearl" - Prof. Jurate Luksaite, University of Kaunas - Lithuania, which took place on 18th March 2009, 14:30 to 16:00 p.m. and 16:10 to 17:30 p.m., amphitheater B301 at ISEP facilities.

• Participation in the "1st International Symposium on Computational Intelligence for

Engineering Systems (ISCIES)" organized by GECAD - Group of Research & Development on Knowledge Engineering and Decision Support, which took place between 18 and 19 November 2009, auditorium E at ISEP facilities.


• Participation in two seminars, in the field of medical information systems, whose themes were:

o "Medical Information Systems", Prof. Dimiter Dimitrov, Technical University of Sofia, Bulgaria, which took place on 12th January 2010, between 18:30 and 20:00 p.m., auditorium E at ISEP facilities (session aimed at students);

o "Simultaneous influence of low frequency electrical and magnetic signals on the humanbody", Professor. Dimiter Dimitrov, Technical University of Sofia, Bulgaria, which took place on13th January 2010, between 18:30 and 19:30 p.m., Conference Room of Building E at ISEPfacilities (session aimed primarily at teachers and researchers in this work presentation of Research & Development).

• Participation in the conference "TALKS 2.0: Errors and Successes in Creation of Technology

Companies", which took place on 27th February 2010, 15:00 to 20:00 p.m. in the Noble Auditorium of FEUP (Faculty of Engineering University of Porto), intended for all those who breathe initiative, dynamism and creativity. In a program that seeks to educate and inspire all those who take part in this event, will bediscussed three main topics: i. "New Entrepreneurs": how to overcome the first obstacles creatively ii. "Exploring New Opportunities": how to approach new markets with innovation and strategy iii. "Series of Successes": how to build a successful and solid career.

• Participation in the lecture "Create graphical Java applications - drawing on a panel", which took place on 21th April 2010, B301 classroom, at 19:00 p.m., a lecture given by a professor at theHighSchool of Sint Lieven.

• Participation in a international conference about "Cloud Computing, a CloudViews 2010" held

in ISEP facilities, which took place on 20 and 21 May 2010. • Participation in the workshop "IPv6 - Internet of New Generation Challenges and

Opportunities", which took place on 26th May 2010, at Porto Palácio Hotel. This workshop is organized by FCCN (Foundation for National Scientific Computing) in partnership with the european project 6DEPLOY (IPv6 Deployment and Support), which aims to support the implementation of IPv6 in several areas.

• Participation in the conference dedicated to the theme "EIBTnet - Creation of Innovative

Business and Technology based", which took place on 19th May 2010, at 17:00 p.m., Auditorium E at ISEP facilities. INNOVATION is the key word when we think of competition from emerging economies, because the success of new businesses is increasingly dependent upon its ability to innovate.

• Participation in the seminar dedicated to the theme "Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Quality -

The Practices that inspire us", which took place on 29th April 2011 at ISEP facilities. • Participation in the workshop "Network application in Java using Sockets", which took place on

12th May 2011, at 20:40 p.m., in F building, F502 classroom, at ISEP facilities. This initiative driven by DEI-Department of Computer Science Engineering and counted with the participation of DEE-Department of Electrical Engineering and the guest speakers were: Kristien Van Assche, AlexanderDe Smet, from the University of KaHo Sint-Lieven. Content of the seminar: - Basics of communication network (host - DNS - port - OSI model - Encapsulation/Decapsulation) ; - Network application in Java using Sockets (multithreaded client/server application).

About the seminar: we will demonstrate how to set up (multithreaded) client/server communication in Java.

• Participation in the lecture on HCI-Human Computer Interaction, at FEUP (Faculty of

Engineering University of Porto) facilities, which took place on 5th September 2011, at 18:00 p.m.,B002 classroom, having been made at the session "Living with Complexity", by Don Norman -expert in Human-Computer-Interaction and User Centered Design. Don Norman was considered by Business Week as one of the most influential designers in the world, and is an unavoidable figure of User-Centered Design and Human Computer Interaction (HCI).
