26th June 2016

Durban University of Technology (DUT) City Campus Courtyard 14h00pm to 17h30pm

On 26th June, community members, religious leaders, artists, academics, and medical practitioners will come together at the DUT City Campus for an afternoon of knowledge sharing and cultural activities. We have an exciting line up of poetry, maskandi, pop and jazz artists who will perform (including local music giants Hlengiwe, Fihlezakhe, Tsholo Mapisa and gifted local poet Page). The line-up also includes short talks about the campaign, inputs from medical and drug use experts, as well as personal stories from former drug users. Messages of support for the campaign will also be given by a host of local celebrities, including Dolphins and SA cricket player, Khaya Zondo, Mr India South Africa, Razeen Dada, and Ukhakhayi actor Melusi Yeni (who will also MC the event). We are also delighted that the Cardinal will be present to show his support. This is the first time that Durban will join more than 150 cities from across the world in making their voices heard in support of this global campaign. Support Don’t Punish calls on governments to put an end to the expensive and counter-productive war on drugs, and instead calls for greater investment in cost-effective harm reduction responses. The campaign challenges the traditional punitive approaches that drug users face and calls for the decriminalisation of people who use drugs, as well as the removal of other laws that impede public health services. For more information about the campaign, visit www.supportdontpunish.org.

We invite everyone to attend this event and to share the afternoon with us!
