1. IMPORTANT NOTICEThis manual contains important installation andoperation information including how to install, programand monitor your DUST-HOG® Supra-I.Q. DiagnosticsPanel. Proper use of the diagnostics panel must bediscussed with United Air Specialists, Inc. (UAS) or yourlocal DUST-HOG representative. Operating personnelmust be aware of, and adhere to, the most stringentsafety procedures.

2. INTRODUCTIONThank you for selecting the DUST-HOG Supra-I.Q. toassist you in your commitment to a clean and safeenvironment. We trust that in purchasing our product,you have recognized our commitment to continuallyoffer equipment engineered to each air cleaning needand manufactured to the highest standards.

The Supra-I.Q. Diagnostics Panel is designed to monitorand perform cleaning functions on mechanical filtrationair cleaning equipment. Any deviation from the intendedpurposed should be approved through UAS.

2.1 DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

The Supra-I.Q. Diagnostics Panel is a state-of-the-artcleaning and monitoring system developed for use withcartridge dust collectors. Quick reference instructions,alarms and programmed troubleshooting solutions makethe Supra-I.Q. the most advanced, flexible and costeffective way to monitor your dust collection system.

The Supra-I.Q. Diagnostics Panel has several importantfeatures:

• Visual display of actual process variables• Large character display for viewing data• Adjustable alarm and alert setpoints• Control and selection of several cleaning modes• Continuous monitoring of vital system information• Control of cartridge cleaning solenoid valves• Visual warnings of alert and alarm conditions• Display of recommended remedies for all alarm

4. INSTALLATION

4.1 OFF LOADING AND INSPECTION

As soon as the equipment arrives, it should be carefullyinspected to make certain all items on the packing listare present and in good condition. Check the enclosureand materials to verify all components are free ofdamage that could occur during shipment. Notedamage or missing items on the Bill of Lading. ThePURCHASER should take immediate steps to filereports and damage claims with the carrier. Damage toequipment in transit is the responsibility of the carriersince it is the policy of United Air Specialists, Inc. tomake shipments FOB factory (i.e., ownership passes tothe purchaser when the equipment is loaded andaccepted by the trucking firm). Any claims for transitdamage or shortage must be brought against the carrierby the purchaser. United Air Specialists, Inc. will provideassistance to purchaser, if necessary.

4.2 PREPARATION

Unpack the Supra-I.Q. Diagnostics Panel and open theenclosure by unscrewing the clamps located on the sideof the unit. Remove any packing materials and/or paperthat may be inside. Properly dispose of the packingmaterial.

The Supra-I.Q. Diagnostics Panel will have the followingmaterial shipped loose:

Electrician and maintenance personnel should have therequired tools for proper installation and wiring of theunit. Recommended installation tools are:

Before installation, prepare an open area to install thecontrol panel. Ensure there is enough room on the leftside of the enclosure to install tubes and allow enoughspace for tubes to turn without crimping. Make certainthat the enclosure can be fully opened. Due to theamount of tubing supplied, the Supra-I.Q. DiagnosticsPanel should be installed within 30 ft. of the dustcollection system. If the Supra-I.Q. Diagnostics Panel isfurther than 30 ft. away, notify UAS or your localDUST-HOG representative for additional materials andrecommendations.

Prepare the appropriate side(s) of the Supra-I.Q.Diagnostics Panel enclosure and create the conduitknockouts. Once the knockouts have been completed,make certain all accumulated metal dust is removedfrom the inside of the enclosure. Confirm that bothprinted circuitboards are free from metal dust.

! WARNINGDo not wire any electrical equipment while poweris applied. Damage to electrical equipment orelectrocution of personnel may occur.

4.3 AIR LINE CONNECTIONS

The air line connections to the controller are locatedon the left side of the Supra-I.Q. Diagnostics Panelenclosure. Do not mount controller on dust collector orair duct. Make certain that the compressed air line to theSupra-I.Q. Diagnostics Panel is downstream from thefilter regulator and at a point near the air manifold(s) atthe dust collector.

Clean, oil-free compressed air to the Supra-I.Q. ensureslong sensor life. Make certain one air line tube isattached from the clean air plenum to the clean airplenum fitting on the Supra-I.Q. Diagnostics Panel.Make certain the other air line tube is attached from thedirty air plenum to the dirty air plenum fitting on theSupra-I.Q. If an afterfilter plenum exists, attach a tubefrom the afterfilter plenum to the afterfilter fitting on theSupra-I.Q. Refer to Figure 2.

NOTE: The purpose of the compressed air line is tomonitor the change in supply pressure at theDUST-HOG air manifolds.

4.4 STANDARD UNIT ELECTRICALCONNECTIONS

Figure 3 shows interconnection wiring to the Supra-I.Q.Diagnostics Panel for standard operation. All equipmentmust be grounded to minimize electrical noise problems.The Supra-I.Q. Diagnostics Panel monitors the blower

stopping and starting, as necessary. The motor/blowercontactor is powered by the Supra-I.Q. The Supra-I.Q.Diagnostics Panel must monitor the contractor coil tooperate correctly. If the contactor coil is something otherthan 110-120VAC, consult UAS or your local DUST-HOG representative for a recommendation.

4.5 REMOTE STARTING ELECTRICALCONNECTIONS

Figure 4 shows wiring to the Supra-I.Q. DiagnosticsPanel when remote starting. If remote starting isrequired, the contactor coil must be tied to theSupra-I.Q. Diagnostics Panel for proper monitoring.Refer to Figure 4.

The motor/blower contactor is powered by the Supra-I.Q. The Supra-I.Q. Diagnostics Panel must monitor thecontactor coil to operate correctly. If the contactor coil issomething other than 110-120VAC, consult UAS or yourlocal DUST-HOG representative for a recommendation.

4.6 TEMPERATURE SENSORINSTALLATION AND ELECTRICALCONNECTIONS

When installing the temperature sensing option, run thethermocouple extension cable in a separate conduit andisolated from AC wiring. Make certain that the dielectricbushing is installed through the clean air plenum before

installing the thermocouple sensor. The dielectricbushing allows the thermocouple sensor to “float” andreduces the risk of induced noise on to the extensioncable. Figure 5 shows wiring to the Supra-I.Q.Diagnostics Panel when using the temperature sensor.

4.7 BLOWER CURRENT SENSORINSTALLATION AND ELECTRICALCONNECTIONS

When installing the blower current sensing option,run the extension cable (twisted pair, shielded) in aseparate conduit and isolated from AC wiring.Figure 6A shows blower current sensor wiring to theSupra-I.Q. Diagnostics Panel. Upon completion ofthe interconnection wiring, follow steps 1 and 2 tocomplete installation.

Step 1Refer to Figure 6B to determine proper dip switchsettings for the motor/blower used. “Range in amps”indicates the motor FLA. “Dipswitch” indicates the fourON or OFF positions of the DIP switch labeled “BANK 0”located near the bottom center of the main printedcircuitboard (part no. 20-2919-85) inside the Supra-I.Q.Diagnostics Panel enclosure.

ExampleIf the motor nameplate FLA is 22 amps, the BANK 0 DIPswitch settings should be on, on, on, on.

Step 2Refer to Figure 6C to determine the proper number of“passes” through the current transformer. “CT” meansthe type of current transformer used for a specific motorFLA range. A pass is the number of times a wire will gothrough the hole of the current transformer.

ExampleIf the motor nameplates FLA is 22 amps, the basemount CT installed in the blower combination starter ispart no. 20-2919-103. One conductor of the motor wiringmust loop through the opening in the currenttransformer one time before going on to the motor/blower.

4.8 AUXILIARY INPUT(S) INSTALLATION

When interconnecting auxiliary input(s), make certainthat the input device gives a dry contact closure. “Drycontact closure” is a customer-supplied, pushbuttoncontact or relay contact with no supplied voltage. TheSupra-I.Q. Diagnostics Panel will supply the voltage(120VAC, 1Ø) to the dry contact(s).

Figure 7 shows proper wiring to the auxiliary input(s).When auxiliary input #1 is activated by a remote contactclosure, output #1 will turn on and will remain on as longas input #1 is on. Input #2 and output #2 work under thesame preface.

4.9 AUXILIARY OUTPUT(S) INSTALLATION

Auxiliary outputs are meant to switch customer-supplieddevices. The customer-supplied device can be a motorstarter, auxiliary control relay, alarm light or horn. Referto Figure 8 when interconnecting auxiliary output(s) tothe Supra-I.Q. Diagnostics Panel voltage source. Thevoltage applied will be either 115VAC or 230VAC, 1.5amps for each output.

Refer to Figure 8 for interconnection if you supply theservice voltage to the auxiliary outputs. The voltageapplied can be 12 - 260VAC, 5 amps. Auxiliary output #1can be used for a common alarm indication whenenabled through the software. Auxiliary output #2 can beused for a common alert indication when enabledthrough the software.

5. OPERATION

5.1 SYSTEM FUNCTION

The Supra-I.Q. Diagnostics Panel provides a state-of-the-art cartridge cleaning and monitoring system. Thesystem collects data from several input devices andcontinuously records the information. The panel thencalculates the average of each variable to provide themost accurate measurements possible. The Supra-I.Q.Diagnostics Panel displays a wide range of diagnosticinformation. The Supra-I.Q. Diagnostics Panel alsorecords operational data for approximately one year.This information is transferable to a computer orportable laptop for future review. The followinginformation describes the function of each feature onthe Supra-I.Q. Diagnostics Panel.

5.2 DUST-HOG STATE DISPLAY

The DUST-HOG status display is a 16 character, twoline, 32 segment LCD display. The display offers twolines of information 16 characters long. Each alpha-numeric character is approximately 1/2" high for viewingease. Any time an operator activates a key (except forthe Blower Start or Stop key), the screen will light forviewing ease. If a key is not pressed within 90 seconds,the backlighting shuts off. The 90-second delay acts asa screen saver to preserve the life of the display andkeep the operating temperature of the controls as low aspossible. The status display gives a wide variety ofdiagnostic information. Some of the important featuresare listed below:

5.2.A NEXT AND PREV KEYS

The NEXT key allows you to scroll to the next messagethat will be displayed on the screen. The PREV keyallows you to scroll to the previous message.

5.2.B POWER ON

Color of light: GREENThe POWER ON light will illuminate when servicevoltage (115VAC or 230VAC) is applied to the panel.

5.2.C ACTIVE ALARM

Color of light: REDThe ACTIVE ALARM light will illuminate when an alarmcondition is identified. When the alarm condition is nolonger active, the ACTIVE ALARM light will turn off.

5.2.D VIEW ALARM

When an alarm condition exists (as indicated by the redACTIVE ALARM light), press the VIEW ALARM key. Thefirst active alarm detected will be displayed on thescreen. Press the NEXT key to view any additionalalarms.

5.2.E BLOWER OPERATIONAL

Color of light: GREENThe BLOWER OPERATIONAL light indicates the motor/blower starter is energized. The system has a sensorthat determines if voltage is applied to the starter coil.When voltage is applied, the system seals the coil andrecognizes that the blower is operational.

5.2.F BLOWER START AND STOP KEYS

When the blower START key is pressed, the motor/blower starter, if wired for standard operation, willactivate (refer to Figure 3). When the Supra-I.Q.Diagnostics Panel senses that the starter coil isenergized, the starter coil seals until the operatorpresses the blower STOP. However, the blower starterwill shut down due to a motor overload or motor overtemperature condition. The Supra-I.Q. Diagnostics Panelwill indicate if starter circuit is broken by some remotecondition.

5.2.G MAINTENANCE ALERT DISPLAY

Color of light: YELLOWThe MAINTENANCE ALERT display is a group of lightsthat indicate a potential problem or fault condition.These lights indicate an alarm condition that may occurin the near future. When the alert condition goes away,the light will automatically turn off. Refer to Table 2 forfactory default conditions. The alert conditions providedand description are as follows:

5.2.H CHECK COMPRESSED AIR

Color of light: YELLOWThis light illuminates when the compressed air level fallsoutside the normal operating range. The compressed airshould remain within an acceptable range for optimumcleaning to occur.

5.2.I CHECK PULSE VALVE

Color of light: YELLOWThe system monitors compressed air pressure duringcartridge cleaning (pulsing the valves). The systemexpects a sudden drop and then a recovery in airpressure from the compressed air line before the nextcleaning pulse. If the system does not sense therequired pressure drop, this indicates a possible bad orjammed valve may be the problem. The Supra-I.Q.Diagnostics Panel waits for a full pressure recovery aftera valve is pulsed. If full pressure recovery does nothappen before the next required pulse in a cycle, acheck pulse valve condition is eminent. If the conditionpersists five times in a row, a pulse valve condition isindicated.

5.2.J CARTRIDGE RUPTURE

Color of light: YELLOWIf the Supra-I.Q. Diagnostics Panel measures either asudden drop in ∆P across the filters, a rapid decrease inairflow or an unacceptable continuous low ∆P, acartridge rupture alert is generated.

5.2.K REPLACE CARTRIDGES

Color of light: YELLOWIf the Supra-I.Q. Diagnostics Panel senses that the ∆Phas risen above the acceptable operating range and thecleaning system cannot reduce the ∆P, the cartridgesare plugged beyond cleaning and should be replaced.

Color of light: YELLOWIf the Supra-I.Q. Diagnostics Panel senses that theafterfilter static pressure has risen above the acceptableoperating range, the afterfilters should be replaced.

5.2.M LOW AIRFLOW

Color of light: YELLOWWhen the Supra-I.Q. Diagnostics Panel detects thatairflow through the system falls from 40% of the ratedairflow to 21% (adjustable), the LOW AIRFLOW lightwill illuminate.

5.2.N HIGH AIRFLOW

Color of light: YELLOWWhen the Supra-I.Q. Diagnostics Panel detects thatairflow rises to 120% of the rated airflow, the HIGHAIRFLOW light will illuminate.

5.2.O 14 KEY MATRIX

The 14 key matrix allows you to enter data, whenprompted, for input information. The keys are wellspaced with large numeric indications for easy use.Each embossed snap-action key provides tactilefeedback that a key has been pressed.

5.3 CLEANING MODES

The FILTER CLEANING MODE lights indicate whatcleaning mode is active. During blower operation, thesystem can be in only one cleaning mode. Upon startingthe blower, the selected cleaning mode will becomeactive following a 45 second start-up delay. The selectedcleaning mode will stay active until the blower shutsdown. Upon shutdown, the cleaning system willimmediately go into downtime cleaning (if the option hasbeen enabled). Possible cleaning modes include auto-tune, setpoint, continuous and downtime pulse modes.

5.3.A FILTER CLEANING MODE ACTIVATED

Color of light: GREENThe FILTER CLEANING MODE ACTIVATED light willilluminate whenever the current cleaning mode isactively pulsing the solenoid valves. When solenoidactivity stops, the FILTER CLEANING MODEACTIVATED light will turn off.

5.3.B AUTO-TUNE PULSE MODE

Color of light: YELLOWIn this mode, the AUTO-TUNE PULSE light continuouslyilluminates. The FILTER CLEANING MODE ACTIVATEDlight also illuminates while pulsing is active. When theblower is running, the auto-tune mode keeps the lowestpractical ∆P across the filters while using the leastamount of compressed air possible. Auto-tune issensitive to the needs of the filter ∆P. Once an initialpulse delay is entered, the auto-tune logic adjusts thedelay depending on the system loading. As loadingincreases, auto-tune determines when to pulse, thedelay between pulses and an optimum deferentialreference setpoint. If loading decreases, auto-tunereduces the ∆P to the lowest possible level.

5.3.C SETPOINT PULSE MODE

Color of light: YELLOWIn this mode, the SETPOINT PULSE light continuouslyilluminates. The FILTER CLEANING MODE ACTIVATEDlight also illuminates while pulsing is active. This modeemulates Photohelic® control. If the filter ∆P rises abovea present upper setpoint, pulsing of the valves willcontinue until ∆P falls below the present low setpoint.

5.3.D CONTINUOUS PULSE MODE

Color of light: YELLOWIn this mode the CONTINUOUS PULSE lightcontinuously illuminates. The FILTER CLEANINGMODE ACTIVATED light also continuously illuminates.While in this mode, the system will constantly pulsevalves as long as the blower is running. When theblower stops, the pulsing stops.

5.3.E DOWNTIME PULSE MODE

Color of light: YELLOWIf this mode is selected, the DOWNTIME PULSE lightwill illuminate once the blower shuts off. The light willremain illuminated until downtime cleaning is complete.The FILTER CLEANING MODE ACTIVATED lightcontinuously illuminates during downtime cleaning.Downtime cleaning is designed to aid in dust removalfrom the cartridges with no airflow to work against. Itserves as a final cleaning after process shutdown.Downtime cleaning will continue for a present numberof cycles.

6. SYSTEM MONITORING ANDSTATUS REVIEW

The system monitoring and status review is separatedinto three groups — System Monitoring and StatusReview, System Programming and ParameterModification, and Alarm Conditions and Troubleshooting.With the touch of a finger, each group allows you toaccess the system and monitor important information.The first three codes will not allow changes and areused only for system monitoring and status. Refer toSection 7 for programming or setpoint changes.

6.1 CODE 1CURRENT FILTER DROP AND AIRFLOW

Upon system start-up, the Supra-I.Q. Diagnostics Panelwill default to Code 1. This code is read-only — you canonly view the conditions and cannot make any changes.Use Code 1 to give general system information that isimportant to the operation of your dust collectionsystem. Code 1 displays the following information:

• Condition of the airflow• Cartridge filter pressure drop• Afterfilter static pressure

The system will display a message in sequence for 15seconds before advancing to the next message. Afterthe fourth message is displayed, the system will returnto the first message and continue scrolling indefinitely.

7. SYSTEM PROGRAMMING ANDPARAMETER MODIFICATION

The system status and parameter modifications areseparated into seven codes. Each code allows you toeffectively change parameters that are pertinent to thatgroup of conditions. There are many factory defaultparameters that are installed into your system. Theseshould be sufficient to monitor and perform effectivecleaning on your dust collection system. If changesneed to be made, make certain you completelyunderstand the changes you make.

Any time you attempt to enter the programming state,you must first enter your password. After entering yourpassword, the system will prompt you for the code youwant to view and modify. Once you are in the code thathas the state you want to change, press ENTER, NEXTor PREV to move about the states until you get to thestate that needs modification.

7.1 CODE 0CUSTOMER SYSTEM SET-UP

Code 0 is an initial set-up routine. Prior to start-up,the routine is used to adjust or change some factorydefault settings quickly and efficiently. Initially, youneed to understand how your dust collector works.Before starting the system for the first time, runthrough Code 0.

Code 0 requests and displays the following information:

Code 4 allows you to view and modify airflowinformation. Code 4 allows access to the followinginformation:

• Actual airflow once the system is calibrated• Maximum initial airflow setting• Low airflow alert setpoint• High airflow is always 20% higher than the initial

airflow setting (fixed)

Configure the system to the maximum airflow within thelimits of the rated horsepower of the motor/blower. Makecertain clean filters are installed and the dampers areopen. 7.5 CODE 7TEMPERATURE SETTINGS (OPTIONAL)

Code 7 allows you to view and modify the temperatureoperating range of the system. Code 7 allows access tothe following information:

• Temperature in the clean air plenum• High temperature setpoint• Low temperature setpoint

Make certain that the temperature sensor with a non-metallic (dielectric) bushing is installed in the clean airplenum of your dust collector. Verify that the Type Jextension cable is interconnected properly between thesensor and the Supra-I.Q. Diagnostics Panel. Refer toFigure 5 for proper interconnection. You are now readyto program. If you enter a wrong number whileprogramming, press ← (backspace key) to erase anyprevious keystrokes. Continuing to press ← will returnyou to the start.

8. ALARM CONDITIONS ANDTROUBLESHOOTING

The Supra-I.Q. Diagnostics Panel has a built-indiagnostics system that indicates when an active alarmcondition occurs. When an active alarm is present, thered light on the face of the Supra-I.Q. Diagnostics Panellabeled ACTIVE ALARM will illuminate. The alarm lightstays on only as long as the alarm condition exists. If thealarm condition is corrected, the active alarm light willturn off. If an alarm condition has occurred, regardless ifthe problem is present, the system data log will recordthe event, day and time it occurred and store it forapproximately one year in the system memory. If morethan one alarm is active, the system will maintain thealarms in the priority they occur. Alarms can be viewedat any time.

Possible alarm conditions are:

• Low airflow• Low supply pressure• High supply pressure• Internal failure• Over temperature (optional)• Afterfilter high pressure• Blower overcurrent• Cartridge filter high ∆P• Filter rupture• Cleaning failure• Blower failure• Service timer (time expired)• Lube fan timer (time expired)

If an alarm occurs, the Supra-I.Q. Diagnostics Panelallows you to view possible causes and recommendedremedies.

Any time cleaning takes place, the system monitorsthe supply pressure. If a valve is activated and thesystem senses no deviation in manifold pressure orrecovery of the compressed air does not happen, thiscould mean a possible faulty valve or a cleaningfailure. If this condition repeats five times in a row, a

CHECK PULSE VALVE alert condition occurs. If thecondition happens 10 times in a row, a CLEANINGFAILURE ALARM occurs. If the valve, or valves,become functional, the alert and alarm conditions willautomatically reset. To review the alarm andremedies, perform the following set of keystrokes.

UAS warrants to the original purchaser that all equipment will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for one year from the date of shipment from UAS (three years for Smokeeter® and VisionAir™ models other than CC and DC series) and that major structural components on SFC and MCB series will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for ten years from the date of shipment from UAS. This warranty applies only if equipment is properly installed, maintained, and operated under normal conditions and does not apply to damage caused by corrosion, abrasion, abnormal use or misuse, misapplication, or normal wear and tear. This warranty will be void with respect to equipment that is subject to unauthorized repairs or modifications. UAS makes no warranty as to goods manufactured or supplied by others. This warranty is subject to any limitations in UAS’ quotation and may not be modified except by a written instrument signed by the President or Vice President of Sales of UAS.
