3Introduction

The BBMA is a process improvement approach that provides organizations with the essential elements for improving their ability to successfully deliver projects that meet business needs. It can be used to guide process improvement across a project, a division, or an entire organization. Therefore, it separates organizational functions, set process improvement goals and priorities, provide guidance for quality processes, and provide a point of reference for appraising current processes. Business analysis, show the different levels of maturity that organizations experience.

Why did we conduct the study? Over the last twenty years business analysis has established

different levels. During this time business environments have become increasingly dynamic requiring organisations to constantly review strategies and improve processes.

Business analysis provide organizations with a vital role of their expertise for business success.

Business analysts are active at various levels of seniority and with different areas of specialist.

5 Project Approach and Planning BAMM: This represents the breadth of

the business analyst's role, varying from a specific focus on improving individual systems, to a wider examination of business processes and, ultimately, to considering improvements across an entire area of an organisation.

BAMM Goal: The goal is not to create a prescriptive process mandated for every project, but rather to assemble and make available a useful business analysis toolkit for BAs to work more efficiently and effectively.

6 Project Approach and Planning To determine the level of maturity you

must first understand the definitions of 4 levels.1. BA Awareness [level1]: Create

disciplined management within work units and stabilize work.

2. BA Framework [level 2]: Established standard end to end, integrated business process.

3. Business Alignment [level 3]: Manage process and performance quantitatively.

4. Business / Technology Optimization [level]: Continuous proactive improvement.

9 Key Findings – Survey 1

Based on Survey 1, the organization’s maturity model is between Level 1 and 2. Thus having successful and failure projects. The successful results are due to individuals not to the process.

There is a required need to develop good practices, experience and training programs at this level – which leads to best practices and lessons learned throughout the maturity levels ahead.

A variety of analytical practices are being used by several projects but standards are required ( Elicitation, requirements, planning/monitoring etc )

There is a career path visible for analyst to develop practices and templates.

This level uses the organizational standards to plan, monitor and report on supporting goals of a project.

At this level, its very important to determine the metrics that are to be used to measure the performance of Business Analysts. They are using them to provide input for business process, which results in project success.

Key Findings – Survey 3

Based on the survey 3, respondent rated the firms to be at level 2 maturity level, where standards and business analysis best practices are established for the organization.

Survey indicates that at level 2, business analysis is a valuable capability by vesting accountability for it in a centralized organization that represents the entire enterprise and is responsible for the management of the BA Framework.

As per survey 4, study indicated that their firm to be at very primitive Business Analysis maturity level rating them at level 1, where there is a minimal awareness for business analysis capability.

Firm does not demonstrate an understanding of value it adds.

15 BAMM the organization currently is!

From the findings, we can say that the organization currently fits at level 2 which is BA Framework.

The study indicated that the organization at this level are sets the defined and standard processes established and subject to some degree of improvement over time.

At this level the scope of the organization is to evaluate, implement and priorities projects for improvement of budgeting, risks analysis as well as requirements tracking.

16 5 RecommendationsBelow are the some recommendations required for organization to accomplish the next level.

1) Know where the organization is and where it’s going: Organizations must establish a

baseline assessment in order to appraise the skills of BA community and the standard practice.

In order to address and build the improvement plan, organizations must prioritize and communicate with the business analyst.

17 5 Recommendations

2) BACoE practice: Community of BA’s has greater

knowledge and experience than any individual.

Community of BA’s can coordinate process improvement activities across the organization and continue to exists even when project improvement has ended.

3) Conduct the organization for a change: Through Communication plan,

Sponsorship roadmap, Coaching plan, Training plan, and Resistance management plan it will help organization reach the next level.

Motivate employees to use technology- as it’s an important tool for the project success.

4) Execute your plan: Keep track of strengths and

weaknesses. Track you progress against the

plan. Always make sure the organization

goals / needs are met. And the required skills, techniques is used in your business analysis approach.

Your team should have support and coaching through out each process.

5) Track your success: Clear understanding of the

business analysis role and responsibilities.

By taking the organization to the highest level, they must develop a strategic plan and remain cautious with their success for the BAMM.

19 Conclusion

Overall, the findings define clearly the current state of the business analysis practices in organizations.

Only a clear strategic plan for developing the discipline and the role will move an organization to the highest level of success.

Keep in mind that, not all organizations need to strive for Level 4 of maturity, as some can achieve success at moderate levels- as It really starts off with the organization goals and how to achieve them.

For the future, the organization should ensure that improvements are made as BA environment changes and this would lead organizations to achieve higher maturity practices.
