neutralintheproductsweprovideourcustomers

aswellasallofourcompanyoperations.

KiwiEnergy,ourfirstUnitedStatesretailcompany

hasastrongfocusoncleanerenergyproducts.

Bytheendof2015,weoffsetalltheenergy

consumedbyourcustomerswithRenewable

EnergyCertificatesandintroducedourcarbon

offsetnaturalgasproduct.Bytheendof2015our

entirecustomerbaseenergyconsumptionwas

beingoffset,resultinginzeronetgreenhouse

gasemissionsfromtheirenergyusage,whichis

equalto10,971garbagetrucksworthofwaste

or229,085acresofforestintheUnitedStates.

Additionally,ournaturalgasusagehasbeen

offsetthroughpurchaseoftradablecarbon

creditsgeneratedfromprojectsregisteredand

verifiedthroughtheVerifiedCarbonStandard.

Wearepleasedwiththededicationshownbyour

customerstomakeenvironmentallyresponsible

decisionsandlookforwardtopresentingmore

partnershipstofurtherreduceenergyusage

andsupportalternativesourcesofrenewable

energyproduction.

Kiwi Energy NY LLCThecompanywasoriginallyformedinDecember

2008andwasrebrandedin2012whenwe

movedtowardsafocusonrenewableenergy

andenvironmentallyfocusedenergyproducts

intheNewYorkmarket.KiwiEnergymarkets

predominantlytoresidential,withsomesmall

commercialcustomers,andhascontractedwith

morethan100,000customersinNewYork.The

currentutilityserviceareasincludeNationalGrid,

ConEd,NewYorkStateElectric&Gas,Rochester

Gas&Electric,andCentralHudson.

Spring Energy RRH LLC under the name Spring Power & GasSpringPower&GaswasformedinNovember

2013tooperateintheMarylandandNewJersey

Power&Gas.BoththeNYPPandPJMsource

supplyfromgenerationwithintheirregionand

fromneighboringregions.Themixoffuelsused

togeneratetheelectricityvarieshourlyand

includesnaturalgas,nuclear,hydro,oil,coal,

windandotherrenewableresources.Spring

Power&Gassellselectricityinstatesthathave

RenewablePortfolioStandards(RPS).These

standardsrequireSpringPower&Gastopurchase

environmentalattributesfromvariousrenewable

sourcesforapproximately15%oftheelectricity

itsells.ThesearemandatedRenewableEnergy

Certificates(RECs)fromspecificsources.Both

KiwiEnergyandSpringPower&Gasgoaboveand

beyondthesestaterequirementsensuringthatin

addition,100%ofcustomer’ssupplyismatched

withRECs.

fromvariousnaturalgasproductionandstorage

facilities.UsingthedatafromtheUnitedStates

EnvironmentalProtectionAgency(USEPA),

RichmondRoadHoldingsdeterminesthecarbon

emissionsassociatedwithitsnaturalgassalesand

purchasescarboncreditstooffsettheemissions

fromprojectsthatencourageforestryandavoid

carbondioxide(CO2)emissions.

StartingandfinishinginBrooklyn,thisintimaterunhighlightsBGI’s

progressinachievingafullycompletedgreenwayalongtheBrooklyn

RichmondRoadHoldingsEcogoldEnvironmentalFundalso

supportedtheBGIEpic2015,where1,400ridersrode40milesfrom

GreenpointtoFarRockawaytosupporttheBrooklynGreenway.

RichmondRoadHoldingsteamhaswillinglyparticipatedinand

sponsoredthiseventsince2013.

Foradecade,BGIhasactedasthecatalystfortheestablishment,development

andlong-termstewardshipoftheBrooklynWaterfrontGreenway.

Beginningin2004,BGIandplanningpartnerRegionalPlanAssociation(RPA)hosted

initialpublicworkshopsalongtheBrooklynwaterfronttodevelopaConceptualPlan.

BGIandRPAthenworkeddirectlywiththeNewYorkCityDepartmentofTransportation

(NYCDOT)tohostadditionalworkshopsanddeveloptheImplementationPlanforthe

BrooklynWaterfrontGreenway,whichwasreleasedtothepubliconJune21,2012.

Today,theGreenwayconsistsof23NYCDOTcapitalprojects.

DOT’smissionistoprovideforthesafe,efficient,and

environmentallyresponsiblemovementofpeopleandgoods

intheCityofNewYorkandtomaintainandenhancethe

transportationinfrastructurecrucialtotheeconomicvitality

andqualityoflifeofourprimarycustomers,Cityresidents

Spanning14-milesfromGreenpointtoBayRidge,sixmilesof

theGreenwayarenowavailableforpublicuse.

Duetothenatureofourbusiness,wedonothave

asignificantcarbonfootprint.Nonetheless,for

thisfirstsustainabilityreportwehaveestimated

GHGemissionsforthosesourcesofGHG

emissionswherereliabledatacouldbeobtained.

CO2emissionsbyavoidingplanneddeforestation

inthePara’State,Brazil,aregionwiththehighest

rateofdeforestationinBrazil.Theprojectwas

createdin2008andisregisteredwiththeVCS

frameworkintheAmazon,theRMDTLPortel-Para

REDDProjectisinacriticalareaoftheAmazon,

inalowlyingareathathasover100milliontrees.

Thisareafiltersthewaterfortheregion,filters

theairandholdsadiversenumberofflora,fauna

andwildlifethatreliesonthisenvironment.

Thelandisover177,000hectarestotal,making

theareaoneofthelargestprivatereservesin

theAmazon.Theprojectincludesnativeforest,

wetlands,twolargeriversandtensofmilesof

smallsteams.

InadditiontotheUnitedNationsCollaborative

ProgramonReducingEmissionsfromDeforestation

andForestDegradationinDevelopingcountries

(knowasREDD+),theprojectalsomeetsthe

ClimateCommunityandBiodiversityAlliance

(CCBA).Itdoesthisthroughsocialinvestment

supportingtraditionalpeoplethatliveisolated

alongtheAmazonRiver.Theprojectallocates

56,000hectaresinlandtothelocalinhabitants.The

donationsallowtraditionalpeopletogainfinancing

tocompletetheirownprojectsonthelandsuch

ascassavafarming,acai,blackpepperandagro

forestryandlivesustainably.Eachfamilyisgiven140

hectaresandallowsforempowermentofthelocal

How We Manage Our Waste

Becauseourbusinessisofficebased,thewaste

thatwegenerateincludestypicalmunicipalwaste,

includingitemslikepaper,foodwaste,plasticand

glassbeveragecontainers,andotherwastetypical

ofofficeoperations.Weoccupyofficespacein

severalbuildingsintheNewYorkMetroarea,rent

anapartmentandutilizeastoragefacility.Where

therespectivelandlordssegregatewastefor

recycleordisposal,wedosoaswell.

newmarketsandchangestoourofficeoperations,

mulching,harvesting,cooking,andcaringforchickens.GrowNYC

sellsolarlightbulbs,energyefficientcookstovesandotherenergy

In2012,EarthSparkturnedonafirst-of-its-kindprivatelyoperated

pre-paymicrogridinLesAnglais,Haiti,asmalltownthathadnever
