SUSTAINABLE RURAL PLANNING Background Selected Research / Consultancy: The Sustainable Rural Planning Research Group (SRPRG) was formed in 1994 and members of the group cut across faculties in UTM, especially the Faculty of Built Environment and Faculty of Management and Human Resource Development. The activities of SRPRG focus on research, consultancy, publications and organising national and international conferences and seminars. Members of the group are also involved in providing advisory services to government and private organisations, such as the Institute for Rural Advancement (INFRA), Selangor State Government, and the Federal Department of Town and Country Planning. Objectives The objectives of the establishment of SRPRG are as follows: To foster and nurture the application of the sustainability concept in the planning and development of rural areas To undertake research and offer professional services in area pertaining to rural planning and development To disseminate knowledge on current rural planning and development issues, ideas and methodologies through publication, conferences, seminars and discourses 1) Empowerment Approach in the Preparation of Rural Action Plan, Gerakan Desa Wawasan, 2001. 2) Model of Planning and Development of Traditional Villages in Semenanjung Malaysia, 2002 3) Drug Abuse Among Youth di Felda Kota Tinggi, 2003. 4) Rural Sustainability: A Study of the Practice of Sustainable Development Principles Among Indigenous Community in Sarawak, 2004. 5) A Study on Restructuring of Kampung Belimbing (a Bidayuh Village) in Sarawak, 2005 6) Pelaksanaan Pelan Korporat oleh Pihak Berkuasa Tempatan di Malaysia.
