Sverdrup Nyheter
From the President
This is why I absolutely love North Dakota, the
weather! Where else can you find anything as diverse
as our weather? We ask the ol’ timers about it every
fall and spring. What are their predications for the
coming winter or summer? What signs and wonder
did they see? What are they telling us to expect?
Seeking good advice is always a good idea, but finding good advice is
another thing! But back to our weather. This past week has been a gift
to us and hopefully the gift that just keeps on giving! And giving, isn’t that
what also brings us joy at Christmas?
I’m reminded of giving by our members who are willing to step up and
give by ringing bells for the Salvation Army, delivering meals for our local
Meals On Wheels program, members who volunteer their time for lodge
projects and the many other civic minded clubs and groups that we all
belong too.
The fulfillment we can each receive by “giving” is human nature at its best.
But we also must be willing to accept help from time to time. When your
life presents challenges, reach out to your family and friends.
Opportunities to “give” and to “receive” go hand in hand. And I already
received a “gift” in the form of a pair of men’s white, knee-high knit socks
that would go well with a men’s bunad or dance costume! Thanks Lyle!
Hadde bra og takk for meg - Jerry Saude
Celebrate at the Social I’d like to extend three invitations to you this month:
1-Wear a Christmas Sweater or Bunad to the Social to brighten up the
night. Giving and Receiving.
2-Bring a “white elephant” gift to share. I have a fun game to share at the
social. Wrap up that special thing you have been wanting to see in
someone else’s house! These exchanges are always fun and sometimes
don’t even make sense. There will be winners at every table on Dec 15th.
Giving and Receiving.
3- Save your spare change in the next 2 weeks and bring in to Feed the
Christmas Pig at the social. We’ll forward the contents of that stuffed pig
to our “adopt a school” and replenish their snack fund. Giving and
Receiving.

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! As your Sons of Norway Financial
Benefits Counselor, I would like to offer my sincerest greetings to you and
your families. The culture and heritage we share as well as your trust in me
as your FBC is what fraternalism is all about. Caring for and taking care of
each other is an important part of what this season and Sons of Norway
should convey to you, our members. You are all important to me and our
society. Let’s continue to be there for each other as we move into the new
year.

Lutefisk In the Air…
By our official count, January 27th will
be the 48th annual Lutefisk and Meat-
ball Dinner for our lodge. Vern Mon-
ger has agreed to lead the committees
this year. The lodge president coaxed
Vern out of retirement with a promise
of “apprentices” to listen, learn and
lead in 2019. Another great opportu-
nity for lodge members to step up and
volunteer. With the lists in hand and
experienced help on all fronts, this job
will not be as daunting as it may
sound. The president will be calling
