RISING 1ST-6TH GRADERS

Thank you for your interest in Swift Summer Explorations, an enriching summer

program at Swift School. We are excited about the programs offered this

summer and hope your child(ren) will join us.

Swift School offers summer academic programs for rising 1st-6th grade students.

Summertime is a great time for maintaining skills and enhancing skills and

concepts taught during the academic year. Highly skilled and experienced

Swift teachers stimulate a love of reading and writing in children. Enriching

Explorations programs are offered each afternoon to give your child the

opportunity to tap into their own creativity and to find interests and talents in

non-academic areas.

In our summer programs, we offer academic and recreational programming for

students currently enrolled at Swift, as well as students enrolled in other schools

and programs. It is highly recommended that students recently admitted to

Swift School attend the summer program. The quality of Swift’s regular program

distinguishes our summer programs.

We look forward to seeing you this summer! Complete and return the

application included in the centerfold. Payment is due with registration. Please

contact us if you have any questions.

Come learn and play with us!

FrequentlyAskedQUESTIONSEDUCATIONAL l ENRICHING l EXCITING

Can I just sign up for a couple weeks of camp or do I need to sign up for the whole thing? Our program is designed to last the full length of the camp; therefore it is not possible to sign up for a portion of the camp.

We will be on vacation during one of the weeks of camp; will you prorate the cost of the camp? We cannot give a reimbursement for missing a portion of camp because our expenses do not change as a result of one child being absent.

Do campers wear uniforms? No. Campers do get a Camp T-shirt which they may wear if they would like.

Are the camps appropriate for students outside of Swift School? Yes, our camps are appropriate for Swift students as well as those from other schools who want to continue building reading and writing skills over the summer.

My child is not dyslexic; can she still come to camp? Yes, any child who needs to continue building reading and writing skills over the summer is appropriate for our program.

Will my child have fun? Yes! We believe in Summer! We strive to make our camps an appropriate mix of academics and fun. We do not want it to feel like “summer school.” Our fun Afternoon Explorations are a great way to end the day.

13

Are these academic camps? Yes, even though we have fun, our campers reinforce their skills by continuing to practice reading and writing over the summer months. Research shows that students who don’t read over the Summer have lower test scores in the Fall than they had the previous Spring. Our own experience is that the average student drops 16 percentile points between Spring and Fall. It is so important to keep reinforcing these critical skills.

How do you group the children? Campers are first grouped by grade level and then by reading ability. We do this because it is comforting to children when their peers are at a similar ability level, and it facilitates effective teaching.

How are the Afternoon Explorations different from the other camps? The Afternoon Explorations are just for fun. While the campers may learn fun, new skills, these camps are not academic in nature.
