Server Application -RTU DESIGNER
RTU Designer software facilitates user to compose data processing rules from stored project templates and device profiles. RTU Designer generates XML file as build output which in turn will be loaded in RTU for execution. The generated build output will be downloaded through web console or Remote Mass upgrade application for mass
deployment.

Existing Architecture ( With SMPS) Proposed Architecture ( With RTU)
1. Manual intervention is needed to reset the CPU at site when it goes in hanged state.
1. With RTU, the hardware watchdog timer will allow resetting the CPU automatically and avoid CPU to enter into infinite loop. No manual intervention will be required.
2. Currently at the field level there is dependency on Laptops for accessing SMPS controllers & Gateway for basic configurations & trouble shooting.
2. With introduction of RTU, all basic configurations of DG sets, ACEM,BMS,SMPS & also viewing the currently active alarms in site can be done through RTU LCD display eliminating use of laptops. Troubleshooting will become easier.
3. For adding functionality features in SMPS like Delays and Filters in Alarms, Blocking/Unblocking Alarms, Logical gate mediation in BMS, support for new devices like ACEM, DG controller, Serial Port configurations all these activity requires software development for each SMPS make. This cycle of Software changes, testing and official release by OEM usually takes 10-12 weeks in current scenario.
3. In RTU, all these functionality features are user configurable with “RTU Designer Web Application”. Even the protocol profile of every equipment which needs integration with RTU can be uploaded as an XML file. Advantage of using RTU Designer application will be removing dependency on SMPS OEM’s for binary file & saves time . All these complex operations can be now developed within 1 week also.
4. IO Peripherals Configuration ( Digital & Analog IO) is not possible through embedded web server.

6. VLAN Tagging and L2 Switch functionality is not supported in SMPS and Gateway.
6. VLAN Tagging and L2 switch functionality is implemented from Day-1 itself. Advantage will be only 1 port will be used at upstream router end. Also in future if our network allows only tagged communication it will be a seamless integration.
7. Network Time Sync not supported in most of the SMPS controller due to which we are unable to correlate the occurrence of Alarms at the server end.

Hardware Front Availability• WatchDog Timer would be embedded in the same microcontroller chipset. This timer would allow to

• Local LCD display for viewing the important parameters of all external interfaced equipments like DG

activity. User can also set some basic functions specific to site like selection of BMS Model (
Coslight/Exicom etc..) , No of Installed Battery Modules ,Modbus functions of enabling /disabling
ACEM,DG communication. This will completely eliminate the use of laptops for commissioning activity.
• Number of other peripherals available for communicating with external environment ie Sensors & Actuators & for interfacing
with external equipments like BMS,ACEM ,SMPS,DG Sets etc . The RTU board will have inbuilt 8 DI, 2 Relay Outputs, 2 AI (
Voltage or current input ) ,4 -RS 485 ,5 -LAN ,1 -RS 232 ports available.

The output generated from this application will be a non compiled XML file which can be then downloaded to target RTUs in bulk. Advantage of using this software will be removing dependency on multiple SMPS OEMs to provide a cross compiled binary code the development & testing cycle for which usually takes min 8 -10 weeks in current scenario. By introducing RTU & this designer software we can significantly reduce the software development cycle time.
• Mass deployment Application will be a separate menu in RTU Designer Web Application . The saved XML files ( with version control) can be downloaded to multiple RTUs in multi-threaded manner & not sequentially.
• Other salient features which are part of RTU Designer Web application are User Accounts Management ,RTU Password Management ,Audit Trails , Upgrade Reports , Alerts Generation ( For instance when RTU Swapped in field)
