Overview

This document details the hardware and software required to run the TIBCO

Software Inc. Foresight line of products.

All TIBCO Foresight Products

Acrobat Reader 5.0 or later

TIBCO Foresight products generally run on virtual machines as long as the memory and

CPU needs stated in this document are met, but your performance may suffer. These

same caveats apply when virtualizing Windows on AIX.

TIBCO Foresight products that run on AIX can run with logical partitions.

TIBCO Foresight® Archive and Retrieval System 4.2.0

Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard or SQL Server 2008 R2 for a hosted environment.

Internet Information Services (IIS) Version 6 or later (with the latest security updates) for Windows Server 2003 R2 or SQL Server 2008 R2.

Use the Microsoft default settings for IIS, with the exception of application pool recycling which must be set to “classic” mode.

For Oracle databases: Oracle Instant Client version 11.2.0.1.0. See Oracle_Instant_Client_Configuration.pdf.

User Machine

Any of the following internet browsers:

Internet Explorer – versions 7 and above

Users must turn on JavaScript for their browser when using Community Manager. Do this

by adding the Community Manager website as a Trusted Site in the browser. Assuming

that JavaScript is enabled for Trusted Sites (generally it is), this enables JavaScript for

the Community Manager site, but not for all sites on the Internet.

Transaction Insight Users’ Machine 4.2.0 and 4.4.0

Firefox 3.6 and later or Internet Explorer 9 to access the Transaction Insight

Web Portal.

For the optimal TI experience, users should:

Turn off compatibility view (Tools | Compatibility View).

Enable Binary and script behaviors (Tools | Internet Options | Security):

Add the Transaction Insight website as a Trusted Site in the browser. Assuming that the

Binary and script behaviors option is enabled for Trusted Sites (generally it is), this

enables it for the Transaction Insight site, but not for all sites on the Internet.


Transaction Insight Web Machine 4.2.0 and 4.4.0

Hardware

Recommended minimum: Quad processor Xeon; 4 GB or more

This depends on your Transaction Insight document volume.

Operating system


Add the environment’s Bin directory to your system Path. By default, this is:

C:\Foresight\TransactionInsight\<vers ion>\Environments\<env ironment>\bin

If your Path contains references to previous environment’s bin directories, remove them.

The only supported web server is Internet Information Services (IIS) Version 6 or later

Appendix A: Microsoft .NET Framework

To see if Microsoft .NET Framework is installed, check for its directory under

Windows or WINNT.

This machine has multiple versions of .NET up to version 4.0:

To see if you have the Client or Full version of .NET 4.0, look in the registry key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework

Setup\NDP\v4:

Appendix B: Java

Use the correct version of Java for your platform.

32-bit platform 64-bit platform

Steps

1. To see if the required version of Java is installed, look for it under Program Files or

Program Files (x86). This will resemble one of these:

If you need JDK

(Note that includes JRE)

If you only need JRE

If you don’t have the required version of Java, you can download it from the Oracle

website and install it.

2. Add the bin directory circled above to your System Variables PATH.

To do this:

a. Choose Control Panel | System | Advanced | Environment variables.

b. Under System Variables, click Path and choose EDIT:

Use 32-bit Java

Use 64-bit Java


c. Go to the beginning of the path and type or paste Java’s bin directory, followed by a

semi-colon for a separator:

(It is important to have this version of Java appear earlier in the path than any other

Java version.)

3. Also under System variables, see if JAVA_HOME is set to the high-level Java JDK

directory, or to the high-level JRE directory if you do not have JDK:

If not, edit it or choose New and set it up.

To check your Java version:

Windows From the command prompt, type java -version

UNIX Type java -version

If it shows an older version in another directory, be sure that the latest Java is earlier in your

Path than other versions.

Typing set at the command line will display the JAVA_HOME setting.


Appendix C: Database Requirements

SQL Server 2005 or 2008

Any machine that connects to a SQL Server database will need Microsoft SQL

Server ODBC Driver Version 3 or later. This is found in MDAC 2.8 and above on

Windows 2003. Windows 2008 and later include native support for ODBC.

Detailed instructions for configuring an ODBC datasource to connect to Microsoft

SQL Server can be found in the Windows help system. One way to access this is

through My Computer | Help | Help and Support Center.

If you choose SQL Server for your Transaction Insight database during installation,

you do not need to perform any additional configuration.

Oracle 10g or 11g

Download and install Oracle Instant Client version 11.2.0.1.0.

Please see Oracle_Instant_Client_Configuration.pdf for details on how to download

and install it.

You will need one of these:

The name of the database machine, port, and Oracle instance.

A TNS_ADMIN environment variable and corresponding TNSnames.ora file that

contains connection information for the Transaction Insight database.

Transaction Insight does not use ODBC for Oracle.

Appendix F: Installing GlassFish 3.1

1. Check your Java version:

If it not at least JDK 7 Update 3, update it:

After updating, please read Appendix B to be sure you are actually using it.

2. If ForesightService is running, stop it:

3. If GlassFish is running, stop it:

See if it is running by directing your browser to http://servername:4848/

Example:

The GlassFish console will appear if GlassFish is running.

If this happens, delete the large Java Process that corresponds to GlassFish. The

size will vary but it will be very large, like this:

http://servername:4848/

4. Download Glassfish Server Open Source Edition - 3.1.x.

Notice the versions of Java listed at the bottom of the page.

5. Run the downloaded GlassFish installation program.

6. Make the following choices when prompted:

Do not enable version updates.

On the Domain Info panel, use these settings except for Start domain after creation:

If you are doing an upgrade, do not select it.

If you are not doing an upgrade, select it.

Password is adminadmin.

Clear the two checkboxes.

7. If you are doing an upgrade, run the Upgrade Application:

From the <newGlassfishRoot>/glassfish/bin folder, run asupgrade.bat. You will see

this dialog, which transfers the old specific domain location to the new domains

folder.

8. Update Foresight Service.ini:

9. Copy your database drivers to the endorsed folder in GlassFish. If you are doing an

upgrade, copy them from the endorsed folder in the old version of GlassFish to the

endorsed folder in the new version of GlassFish.

10. Start Foresight Service:

11. From the Archiver Portal in TI, test the server by using the PING command.

12. You may have to enable Remote Access to the GlassFish console:
