The production facilities at Laharaque Chodorge S.A. in Montecarlo

Laharraque Chodorge S.A.The company emerged from two compa-

nies: Establecimiento Maderero Chodorge S.A. and Puerto Laharrague S.A. and consists of 350 employees. The expertise from the two companies can be tracked back to 1968, which makes Laharrague Chordorge S.A. one of the oldest timber companies operating in Misiones in Argentina. Since the merge in 2005 Laharrague Chodorge has managed to use their competencies to optimize their ef-ficiency, which has resulted in an increased amount of sawn timber per year going from 23,000m³ to 45,000m³. The company pro-duces moulding and millwork components in softwood for both the international and South American market.

The solution for Laharrague Chodorge S.A.

Laharrague Chodorge S.A. invested in a new, simple and very efficient system solu-tion for handling, scanning and cross-cutting of solid wood. To adjust to the requirements of Laharrague Chordorge S.A., the line is designed to be very flexible, and is capa-ble of both cross-cutting of workpieces for finger-joint and components, but also quality sorting of sawn timber. The line consists of a moulder infeed for feeding of two moulders

from Grupo Linares, a MiCROTEC GOLDE-NEYE 302 multi-sensor scanner for wood components, intelligent sorting system of sawn timber and workpieces to components, optimizing cross-cut saw model Opti-Kap 5003 and a sorting belt conveyor for correct sorting of cross-cut components. Depending on the production run, it is possible to use both or only one of the moulders.

GOLDENEYE 302The multi-sensor scanner GOLDENEYE 302

from MiCROTEC, is a new developed scan-ner that recognizes wood defects in a very reliable way in order to automate, streamline and optimize the manufacturing process. The value optimization software considers custo-mer specific grading, cross-cutting and sor-ting rules. Through combination of different technologies it has been possible to minimize the number of cameras, without losing the degree of utilization of the wood. MiCROTEC has designed the GOLDENEYE 300 scanner with three goals in mind:

• To increase the value in wood compo-nent manufacturing

• Making scanning more accurate• Making optimization more powerful

and easier to use

New standard concept from System TM and MiCROTEC

Through great co-operation it has been possible to design a very competent and ef-ficient solution for handling, scanning and cross-cutting of solid wood. The concept consists of an optimizing cross-cut saw mo-del Opti-Kap 5003 Version 2 and MiCROTEC scanner GOLDENEYE 302. The Opti-Kap 5003 cross-cut saw has a unique saw stroke, and the design of the saw ensures a high quality and accuracy of the cut, with an extremely high capacity. The GOLDENEYE 300 identifies all details of the lumber in the same high standard as the other scanner models from MiCROTEC, without losing the degree of uti-lization of the wood. The only difference is through speed, that as a maximum is able to scan the wood at a speed capable of feeding one saw.

This high technological system solution enables Laharrague Chodorge S.A. to maxi-mize their production capacity and gain full utilization of the wood, at the best price in the industry.

The optimizing solution from System TM consists of the following:

• Two moulders• Optimizing cross-cut saw model

Ten Oaks In the foothills of Virginia’s Blue Ridge

Mountains is where Ten Oaks is located. Their manufacturing operation sources the fi-nest Appalachian hardwood for their flooring, only from Verified Sustainable Hardwood Forests. For more than a century Ten Oaks has been a family run business and is now on the fourth generation. Ten Oaks is the culmi-nation of owners’ forest products experience and family values, from the first generation of sawmill entrepreneurs to the fourth gene-ration of wood scientists and engineers.

The unique combination of location, tra-dition and experience forms the foundation upon which Ten Oaks’ product innovation is built. When adding the important family values this provides the engine to turn inno-vative, cutting edge concepts into new indu-stry standards. Sustained excellence within quality, ethics and customer service is the main goal of the Ten Oaks family.

Ten Oaks solid hardwood flooring The state-of-the-art manufacturing facili-

ties of Ten Oaks produces traditional quality flooring with an eye to the future through their revolutionary Six Side Seal. The Six Side Seal ia a moisture barrier that coats each surface immediately after machining, keeping the floor “manufacture fresh” and allowing for the best side match available anywhere. Ten Oaks provide the highest quality and lon-gest lasting value in solid hardwood flooring.

The optimizing cross-cut lineThe cross-cut line that Ten Oaks invested

in from System TM produces hardwood strip flooring in red and white oak. It consists of a MiCROTEC 502 scanner including x-ray that detects defects and quality of the wood before the cross-cut saws. After the scanner, the workpieces are automatically divided bet-ween three optimizing cross-cut saws Opti-Kap 5003, and the cut workpieces will then be printed for correct orientation before the

next main machine. The line also consists of four sorting belts after the saws, where the cut workpieces are sorted according to width and for re-rip.

The uniqueness of the lineThe unique material handling between

the scanner and the three saws, makes it possible to run workpieces with a very large length variation. Furthermore the design of the line and the material handling system, makes it possible for Ten Oaks to produce three different products in one production run. This optimizes on both their wood and staff resources, because the operators does not have to spend time sorting the work-pieces manually, and they are much more flexible with regards to their production and order intake. System TM is proud to have delivered this line and look forward to many years of great co-operation with Ten Oaks in the future.

companies founded in the 1910’s. In 1997 the enterprise decided on the current company name. Araupel S.A. works globally with activities aimed at reforestation and high quality wood products processing business. They own their own forests that cultivate species such as Araucaria Angustifolia, Pine Taeda and Eucalyptus. More than two million tree seedings are grown in their own nursery every year for reforestation. From planting to harvesting, all stages of the production process are done aiming at production maxi-mization, raw material quality development, and natural forest preservation.

Araupel S.A. excel in exporting mouldings,

panels, doors, stairs and furniture compo-nents, mainly for the European and North American market. As a trademark, Araupel

System solution from System TM resulted in more produc-tion investments for Brazilian Araupel S.A.With the South American market being in a rapid development within the solid wood industry, many companies are currently investing in the newest optimizing equipment for their production facilities. This is also the case for Araupel S.A. based in Brazil.

S.A. is known in several countries for the high quality of their products, and their ca-pability of attending very demanding markets and customer requirements. This is also the reason why they have such a great focus on employee development and training.

The optimizing solution from System TMThe optimizing cross-cut line that Araupel

S.A. invested in from System TM, produces moulding and millwork components. It con-sists of an Opti-Feed 6000 infeed solution, designed to adjust to the speed of the fol-lowing main machine. This ensures an in-creased machine capacity, but also releases the operators at Araupel S.A. from hard and repetitive work. After the Opti-Feed 6000 the workpieces are automatically transported to a MiCROTEC GOLDENEYE 502 scanner that detects defects and quality of the wood, be-fore the cross-cut saws.

This line consists of three optimizing cross-cut saws Opti-Kap 5003. This version of the System TM cross-cut saw has a unique saw stroke and design which ensure a very high quality and accuracy of the cut. The composition of the line is designed so that Araupel S.A. has the best optimization of their wood at a very high capacity.

During the project process Araupel S.A. decided to buy the entire system solution from System TM. This included the automatic infeed Opti-Feed 6000, the GOLDENEYE 502 scanner from MiCROTEC, the three optimi-zing cross-cut saws, but also all conveyor belts, sorting belts and platforms.

Enrique R. ZENI & CíaEnrique R. ZENI & Cía was founded in

the 1940’s and is today a solid market lea-der within the company’s different fields of business. They own more than 6,000 hectare forest, which consist of Pine, Eucalyptus and Australian red cedar. The production facilities are 40,000 m². Among their different wood products you will find moulding, wood pellets and surfaced lumber. The optimizing cross-cut line that Enrique R. ZENI & Cía invested in from System TM produces moulding and millwork components.

The optimizing cross-cut lineThe line consists of an Opti-Feed 6000 auto-

matic infeed solution, MiCROTEC GOLDENEYE 502 scanner, a mini CT scanner with three x-ray units for internal pith detection and positi-oning, three optimizing cross-cut saws model Opti-Kap 5003, six uniquely designed re-rip channels, ripsaw and sorting belts.

6

First optimizing cross-cut line, including mini CT scanner for internal pith detection and positioning, sold to ArgentinaEnrique R. ZENI & Cía have a big focus on investing in the latest optimi-zing equipment for their production facilities. Together with System TM and MiCROTEC, a system solution was developed to match their exact re-quirements and wishes.

One of the unique features of this design is that the line consists of six re-rip channels, significantly simplifying the re-rip process. Previously it was the operator that manually sorted the workpieces into the correct chan-nels for re-rip, now this process has been automated. When the workpieces are trans-ported through the scanner, the optimization program will identify how they should be re-ripped and they will automatically be trans-ported to the correct re-rip channel.

Mini CT scanner with internal pith de-tection and positioning

It has been very important for Zeni & Cía to optimize their production with regards to the utilization of their wood, and they had a wish to be capable of utilizing the pith with regards to its position. Identifying the loca-tion of the pith in a workpiece can be very challenging and difficult, but MiCROTEC has developed a mini CT scanner capable of just

this. The CT scanner module, which is placed just in front of the GOLDENEYE 502, consists of three X-Ray units providing a three dimen-sional image of the wood, which makes it possible to identify the exact position of the pith. Through this pith detection technology, it is possible to optimize on the basis of the positioning of the pith, ensuring the correct quality of the end product.

The design and the functions of this opti-mizing cross-cut line, including pith detection and the automation of the re-rip process, ensure that Enrique R. ZENI & Cía optimize on their staff and wood resources. With an optimal utilization of the wood, an end pro-duct of the highest quality and optimization of their staff resources, this system solution is living up to all their requirements and System TM and MiCROTEC are looking for-ward to the future co-operation.

The production facilities at Z.P.U. Prawda in Poland

Z.P.U. PrawdaThe company was established in 1989 and

is located in the east of Poland. For many years they have had a very well established co-operation with the Swedish furniture company IKEA, and their plywood production has expanded worldwide. In 2001 Z.P.U. Prawda built a new manufacturing facility and specialized in the production of chest and frame furniture in pine and birch. These dif-ferent developments have made them one of the biggest employers in the region.

The process of the investmentZ.P.U. Prawda bought System TM second-

hand equipment that has been running since the late 1990’s. Today, many years later, the System TM line is still part of their produc-tion, and throughout the years it has been of great satisfaction and functioning really well.

When Z.P.U. Prawda decided that it was time to optimize their production, their ini-tial thought was to rebuild the second-hand System TM line. After several meetings with

System TM that presented them with diffe-rent solutions, they ended up investing in an entire new system solution.

The optimizing cross-cut lineThe line consists of an automatic infeed

system Opti-Feed 6000 that feeds the raw material to the subsequent moulder. As one of the special features of the line, a metal detector is placed just before the moulder to ensure that any wood consisting of metal, is removed. The line is designed with an extra buffer system, making it possible to buffer lamellas from the moulder, but also to feed lamellas directly to the scanner.

Before the MiCROTEC high-speed GOLDENEYE 501 visual scanner, the lamel-las can be manually stress graded. Two optimizing cross-cut saws, model Opti-Kap 5003 then cuts the lamellas according to the optimization program. The line consists of different sorting options, such as sorting for finger-jointing, manual stacking and automa-tic stacking via four Opti-Stack 3000 double stackers from System TM.

What must be highlightedIn the process of deciding which scanner

would be most suitable and efficient in their production, Z.P.U. Prawda visited MiCROTEC in Italy to test the GOLDENEYE 501 scanner with the lamellas used in their production. After several tests with the MiCROTEC scan-ner and other scanner candidates, Z.P.U. Prawda was certain that the scanner capable of living up to their requirements, was the MiCROTEC 501 scanner. This particular scan-ner establishes the most efficient cross-cut position for boards and lamellas, based on the customer’s specific quality requirements.

Great flexibilityIt was a great process designing this so-

lution for Z.P.U. Prawda, and System TM is very proud to have delivered this line. During the process, many smaller modifications to the line has been made, and this has only been possible due to the great teamwork between the Poland based System TM Sales Engineer, the System TM sales team and the customer.
