Term 2 has once again been a very busy term as can be seen from the

activities, programs and initiatives featured in this newsletter. I hope you

enjoy reading about them.

We are in the second year of developing a Permaculture Garden and it is now a

major feature of our grounds. Students and staff have worked hard to develop 2

seating circles, numerous worm farms and an enormous amount of produce. Pop in

and check out the size of those sunflowers - amazing!! Next year we are introducing

a Horticulture course with a strong emphasis on permaculture to support student

interest in this area of learning. A massive thank you to Aaron Sorenson and his

team of students for their great on-going work. Also a huge thanks to Lara and Cheyne for their drive and

energy in ensuring this project comes to fruition.

Our buildings have also received some attention with 2 science labs being totally refurbished. They are

scheduled to be fully functional at the start of term 3 and will greatly support our delivery of science.

Three of our building also received an exterior painting upgrade to give a much more contemporary

appearance. We have successfully applied for a grant to revamp aspects of the hall as well. It is

anticipated this work will be completed prior to the start of 2018.

Congratulations to all those students offered places in our incentive excursion to Nowra Tree Tops this

term. Students who have an attendance record of over 85% and no negative entries related to their

behaviour or work ethic, receive invitations to attend. The excursions are a great opportunity for the

college to reward students who meet our expectations.

Thank you to all parents and carers for your support of the College, and especially to those who attended

Parent Teacher Evening on June 27. This was a very successful event. Research shows parental

involvement in their children’s education is a key component for student success. The college is always

looking for ways to incorporate parents in school events and their child’s education. Please contact us

any time you wish to receive an update on your child’s education or consult with the college. Please

contact the College for further information.

I would like to acknowledge the efforts of all the College staff who work so hard to make FISC a great place for our

students. Finally, to all staff and students a have very happy and safe holiday. Term 3 commences for students on

Tuesday 18th, July.

Students and staff love a challenge and to

push the boundaries. They braved the

conditions and took on the high ropes and

giant swing at our team building event at

"The Tops"

The pictures tell a thousand words!

Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is a fabulous reason for the FISC Staff to get together and enjoy some delicious delights while raising money for the Cancer Council to save lives through the prevention, early detection and treatment of cancer

HSC Business Studies students paired with Josh’s

class in the kitchens to cook chocolate. We have

studied Willies chocolate which is a product you

use in savoury as well as sweet dishes. We made

Dip, Chicken with rice and brownies. It was fun,

tasty and hopefully the business students will

remember it to use as a case study in their half

yearly exams.

HSC Business Studies students visited Taronga

Zoo to learn about marketing and have a great

day at this iconic venue.

FISC hospitality students have been cooking up a storm this term. Staff and students have enjoyed some delicious food, barista coffee and fabulous

service.

Walnut is a 2 year old Golden Labrador Walnut is one of ten working school support dogs in Australia

Walnut can provide support to students in a number of ways, including offering emotional support , recognising sings of anxiety and helping improve concentration and communication skills as well as

reducing the incidence of antisocial behaviour and bullying Walnut will spend his days here at FISC and go home with his trainer/handler Tess.

Walnut can mostly be found in the Art rooms with Tess—please make a time with Tess to meet him Walnut is super cute and friendly—please don not get over excited in his company or lunge at him

Please DO NOT pat Walnut when he is working—it makes it hard for him to concentrate Walnut wears a uniform to school—a blue vest that clearly states he is an Assistance Dog

Walnut follows a strict, healthy diet—NEVER FEED HIM ANYTHING

BIG thanks to Tess for all the hard work that has gone into securing Walnut as an Educational Support Dog.

FISC is delighted that “Companion Animal Veterinary Hospital - Dapto” are supporting our Educational Support Dog Program and helping to keep

Walnut happy and healthy.

Our Team Green students have been busy in the garden, planting and harvesting

veggies, including some huge broccoli and beautiful spinach and bok choy. Students have also been hard at work completing another large seating circle in the upper part of the garden, which will be a great place to sit and relax in the shade and

watch the garden grow. Staff and students have been doing their part to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill by making the most of our green waste bins and our worm farms. Jacob

Howe in particular has been doing a great job of keeping the worms happy and well fed, doing the rounds collecting the green waste twice a week.

Plenty of exciting things to come next term so watch this space!

2017 Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability All schools across Australia will again be participating in the Nation-

ally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The Da-ta Collection will take place in August. All information is de-identified, meaning, no personal or identifying information about any student will be included. The NCCD is not limited to students with diagnosed disabilities. It uses a very broad definition of disability, taken from the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Dis-ability Standards for Education 2005, which includes a range of health issues and learning difficulties where schools implement strategies and adjustments, beyond the scope of quality teaching strategies, to support students in participating effec-tively in their learning. More information about the NCCD is available at: https://docs.education.gov.au/node/33415 If you have any further questions regarding FISC’s NCCD collection in 2017, please

contact our Learning Support Teachers, Elle Stewart or Paul Forrest, or Head Teacher
