Together Everyone Achieves More
District I
DISTRICT GOVERNOR’S MESSAGE
“NEW MOUNTAINS TO CLIMB” IS THE 2016-2017 THEME OF
OUR NEW INTERNATIONAL President Chancellor Bob Corlew of Milton,
Tennessee. As we look forward towards the future of the start of our next
100 years, we can see or at least have a vision of the many new moun-
tains for us as Lions to climb. So here we are at the summit of 99 years
of mountains that the Lions have successfully climbed. As we look out
from this vantage point, we can see not just one mountain, but a whole
range of mountains ahead of us to climb. How will we meet those chal-
lenges ahead of us?
TEAMWORK! – Because - TOGETHER EVERYONE
ACHIEVES MORE. When you are at the hill leading to the mountain, you
have to plan your approach to climb that mountain. You need to: 1. Have a plan
2. Assemble your TEAM
3. Set your goals
What do we hope to accomplish?
What training does the team need to climb that mountain?
Does the leader have the skills to lead us up that moun-
tain?
The immediate mountain in front of us is MEMBERSHIP & RE-
TENTION. We need to work as a District TEAM and brain storm. I am
always open to any Lion with a good idea. We started the year off with
another dropped club, on July 1st – a loss of 14 Lion mem-
bers.
We also have the 100 year Centennial Challenge from LCI.
The Challenge is to serve 100 Million people around the world - 25 Million
each for YOUTH, HUNGER, VISION & ENVIRONMENT. Has your club
planned a Centennial project or a legacy project yet? When you do make
sure you send your report to LCI.
I am an optimistic person, therefore I’m looking forward to a positive
and fun year for our District along with a Positive growth year for member-
ship with a new club or two or three.

To climb a mountain you need a plan in order to reach the summit. We ask someone to join the Lions to give back to our Community, serve as mentors for those who need the assistance of our many entities, such as Sight, Hearing & Disaster. Where making a difference is what makes a Lion. That said…we then hound our members to recruit and retain new members to make all of the above a contin-ued reality. Where is thisa problem? Why is it a problem? What are some of the clubs doing that just doesn’t cut it when it comes to that back door being left open for our members to walk out of, due to lack of motivation to stay. I have visited a few clubs in and out of our District that I can see first-hand where some of our problems are. It’s like the FLU! (Forcing Lions Under) What do we need to do? As I visit with each of you this year and as Governor next, we will work together with the Global Member-ship TEAM (GLT) to find a cure for this Flu. This mountain is not high enough to stop the Pride of Lions who believe in our Motto & work together with a plan, to cure the Flu, then reach the summit where Mem-bership is Recruited, Retained and Healthy throughout our Pride of Lions. NO MORE FLU! I have visited and observed first -hand the clubs who do not have a Flu. Clubs with no Flu keep members active and involved Active members stay involved and continue as members Results: drops reduced…membership increased.
First, I would like to thank all Lions in the District for choosing me to be your next Second Vice District Governor. I am looking forward to work with all of you during the next couple of years.
My goal is to visit all Lions Clubs in our District over the next two (2) years. This is something I am really looking forward too. Having met so many of you and seen what the Lions in our District can do I am sure that we will have a great year.
Our District is in great shape and I expect that it will continue to approve and be the best that it can under our new Governor and his team. It is you that make our District great and without the fantastic work being done by our Lion Clubs the District would not be what it is. You should all be very proud of all your accomplishments.
If you are interested in becoming a Leader in our District, please let us know. We do need more Leaders. We have many Great Leaders in our District that will help you with training so that you can achieve your goals. I ask you to please come forward and let us know that you are willing to serve and we will assist you in any way we can.
More and more people in our communities and around the world need our help so we have to show the world that District 35-I is ready to serve.
To reach our goals we must work together as a team and as you know our Gover-nors motto this year is “Together Everyone Achieves More”, which spells TEAM.

2ND VICE DISTRICT
GOVERNOR
I have had sever-al request to hold train the trainer class. Gulfport Lions have given us the date of Sept 10 for this. I need by Tuesday that week a count so I have information and handouts. Please put this on your website, newsletter and discuss with everyone who may be interested. Please share with your club members.

From the Desk of
Cabinet Secretary Lion Penny Gregrich, PDG
It is exciting to begin another Lions year as the Club Secretary! Hopefully all of you new Club Secretary’s have gone to www.lionsclubs.org and clicked on the blue banner on the MyLCI and have arrived at the website to submit your monthly membership report (even if you have no changes, LCI needs to know that) and your club’s activi-ty reports. If you are a new secretary then you needed to get yourself a password when you got to this site. Easy enough, just follow the instructions under the empty boxes and fill in the necessary information. You can make your password “personal” and make it something that you will remember and keep it located close to your computer so you can file your reports each month. It only take a few minutes of your time to do this each month and if you need help or get stuck, feel free to call me to assist you. I want to see every club file an activity report each month, even if it is to only report that your club collected eyeglasses, sorted them or cleaned and boxed them. That is an activity and it needs to be included. Lions International can only claim to be the biggest and the best IF we report what we are doing each month. I can help you with this as well.
We are going to have a training session for the secretaries and if you have a laptop or can borrow a laptop for the training then we are going to go live with our training. Bring your passwords or if you need assistance in get-ting one then we will do that as well. You see, we want District Governor John Geary to be totally informed with what your club is doing in our District. How can your club be recognized if we do not tell it like it is! Lion Jackie Cameron and I will be providing the hands on training in Gulfport on August 13
th. Let us help you to become a better secretary
and the District more informed of what is happening in District 35-1.
All reports need to be filed by July 31st by midnight. All notices for the first billings of our International dues
are posted on MyLCI as well and you may download this and go over the list of names with your Club Treasurer for accuracy. Dues are also completed for the Multiple District and District. Please pay these as soon as possible in the next 30 days.
I will be checking each clubs posting of their membership and activity reports each month by the 20th and
again every two days thereafter. I am a secretary and take my job very seriously and that is to see that 100% of all of our clubs report each month. LCI rewards Secretaries for their 100% posting at the end of each year. This helps your club President and your club to qualify for the Club Excellence Award by filing reports on time each month. So let’s get started, if you need help call me at (941) 740-2860 or email me at [email protected]. I will get back to you! See you in Gulfport on August 13
th. Get your reports done now and qualify for recognition!
From the Desk of
Cabinet Treasurer Lion Judy Galm, PDG
Dues notices have been sent out to all the clubs, usually to the President, Secretary and Treasurer, if you had emails listed on the International Website. If you did not receive yours, please email me at [email protected] and I will get you a copy. Some of you will see prorated dues on your notice. That means you picked up members from Janu-ary 2016 to June 2016 who have not been assessed for Multiple and District dues.
Marco Island was the first club to send in their dues, followed by the Venice Lions Club. Some of you did not get your notices until July 20th, so you could not be expected to have them in early. My goal is to be the first District to get our dues sent in to the Multiple office, so please send them in quickly or bring them to the Cabinet Meeting. Both the District and Multiple District thank you in advance.
The projected budget is on Page 4 to be presented at our upcoming meeting.

INSIDE STORY HEADLINE
This story can fit 150-200 words.
One benefit of using your newsletter as a promotional tool is that you can reuse content from other marketing materials, such as press releases, market studies, and reports.
While your main goal of distributing a newsletter might be to sell your product or service, the key to a successful newsletter is making it useful to your readers.
A great way to add useful content to your newsletter is to develop and write your own articles, or include a calendar of upcoming events or a special offer that promotes a new product.
You can also research articles or find “filler” articles by accessing the World Wide Web. You can write about a variety of topics but try to keep your articles short.
Much of the content you put in your newsletter can also be used for your Web site. Microsoft Publisher offers a simple way to convert your newsletter to a Web publication. So, when you’re finished writing your newsletter,
convert it to a Web site and post it.
This story can fit 100-150 words.
The subject matter that appears in newsletters is virtually endless. You can include stories that focus on current technologies or innovations in your field.
You may also want to note business or economic trends, or make predictions for your customers or clients.
If the newsletter is distributed internally, you might comment upon new procedures or improvements to the business. Sales figures or earnings will show how your business is growing.
Some newsletters include a column that is updated every issue, for instance, an advice column, a book review, a letter from the president, or an editorial. You can also profile new employees or top customers or vendors.

Thank you for attending the 99th Lions International Convention in Fukuoka, Japan! The convention was a roaring suc-cess. Lions from around the world gathered and marched in the exciting Parade of Na-tions; discussed new ways to make an im-pact in our local and global communities; enjoyed spectacular shows and Japanese culture; and more. Visit the LCICon Face-book page for photos and videos, and search #LCICon on Facebook and Twitter for posts from attendees. You can also see video highlights on the LCICon YouTube channel. The next convention will be our Chi-cago Centennial Celebration in June of 2017! We hope to see you there!

President of Your Florida Lions Conklin Center
Did you know:
In the early 1970s a survey conducted by the Florida Divi-
sion of Blind Services found that more than 1,200 adults who were
blind with other disabling conditions were placed in institutions and
receiving only custodial care.
When the Conklin Center opened for service in 1979, it
was the only organization in the United States whose adult services
were devoted exclusively to the vocational rehabilitation needs of
adults who were blind with coexisting disabling conditions, and we
believe this is still the case today.
In January 2000, an Early Intervention Blind Babies Pro-
gram was added to serve children with who are blind or severely
visually impaired and their parents in the most natural environment
– their home.
The Conklin Center recently purchased a duplex in Or-
mond Beach which will enrich the training program to offer real-life
independent living skills for the advanced students.
Again this year, the Conklin Center is setting the fund rais-
ing goal for each District at $45,000! Ambitious - yes, doable –
yes! How about helping your budgets out and run an event or two
that just supports the Conklin Center. This will help get more peo-
ple (and Lions) to be aware of the life changing mission of the
Conklin Center. So many ways avenues for press releases to-
day! Keep the Conklin Center informed, we could probably give
you hand!

DOWNTOWN
LIONS
CENTENNIAL
CHALLENGE
The Tampa Downtown Lions working in conjunction with Boy Scout Troop 246 held a very successful book drive for Hope Children's Home in Tampa. The Lions collected 102 new and used books and the Scouts collected 475 books. On July 14th, mem-bers of our club visited Hope along with Lion Mark, Scout Master, and his son and
daughter who are both scouts. Lion Jim, Club Sec-retary, presented a Lions Scouting Service Patch to Lion Mark's son Lucas for his participation in the book drive. Patches were given to Lion Mark to distribute to the other six scouts who collected books, but were unable to attend today's
presentation. Lions Mark and Margie were presented with certificates of service from the club in appreciation for their work with the book drive. After the presentation, the Lions were given a tour of Hope by our amazing tour guide Stephanie. This activity will serve as our 1st Centennial Challenge for the 2016-2017 Lions Year.
