This week our learning will be about Chance and Position. Additional worksheets to the work listed can be found at the end of this document. The first 2 Maths sheets are aimed at Year 1, the next 3 for Year 2, but your child can complete any of them if they would like to. Brainstorm any words you can think of to do with chance (e.g. possible, likely etc.) you may need to search the internet to help you. See if you can find AT LEAST 6 words. Order the words you brainstormed from impossible to occur to will definitely happen. Record these in your book. Draw a picture and write a sentence about something that WILL DEFINITELY happen today and something that is IMPOSSIBLE to happen today. Log on to Mathletics https://login.mathletics.com/ Complete 2-3 tasks that your teacher has set.

Year 2: start at 95 What are the chances if you flipped a coin 10 times that it would come up as heads each time? Let’s investigate! Find a coin. Flip it 10 times and record in your book using tally marks whether it was heads or tails each time. Was it the same each time you flipped the coin? Was heads more popular or tails? Using the same coin, flip it 10 more times. Record these in your book. Were the results the same? Questions to think about: Do you have any impact on whether it was heads or tails or was it pure chance what side the coin flipped up? Could you do anything to make heads come up more? Draw a picture and write a sentence in your book about something that is LEAST LIKELY to happen today and something that is MOST LIKELY to happen today. Log on to Mathletics

Brainstorm 10 words about position. Record these in your book. (HINT: forwards, under) In your book draw a picture of the room you are in and include yourself in it. Make sure you include the different furniture in the room. Describe the position of 3 things in the room in relation to you. eg. The coffee table is 4 steps to the left of me, it is on top of the rug and next to the lounge. Log on to Mathletics https://login.mathletics.com/ Complete 2-3 tasks that your teacher has set.

Year 2: start at 80 Set up an obstacle course in a room of your house. Give directions to different family members to move from one side of the room to the other without falling over anything. Make sure you use directional language. E.g. take 2 steps right, walk forwards 4 steps, step over the box, walk 2 more steps and go under the chair then walk to the left of the coffee table etc. If you have time you could draw the room and your obstacle course in your book. You could then write the directions you would give to your teacher if they came to visit your house! Log on to Mathletics https://login.mathletics.com/ Complete 2-3 tasks that your teacher has set.

Keeping yourself healthy: Think about people who you can trust at home to keep you safe. Who is an adult you can think of that would keep you safe outside of your home? (eg. teachers, police etc.) Talk to your parents about emergency numbers to call if you need help. Complete the activity sheet below “Keeping myself safe”. Eating healthy foods: Eating healthy food gives us energy throughout the day and helps us to grow healthy and strong. Complete the activity sheet below “Eating Healthy Foods”. Complete some physical activity. Here are some links for yoga and fitness. Science and technology Brainstorm things that might affect the growth of a caterpillar into a butterfly. (eg. the amount of food they eat, the type of food they eat, the temperature of their environment, access to water, how crowded they are etc.) Create a digital document titled ‘What happens to the growth of caterpillars?’ Record what you observe either from researching in books, videos online or in real life if possible. Here is a video to start you off: Sci Show kids – How does a butterfly grow. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5RSpMQQOpw

Creative arts Easter egg artwork:

Use the triangle shape template and the egg template below. You will need coloured pencils or crayons, glue & scissors, coloured paper and a piece of curling ribbon. 1) Colour each triangle with one colour. Press heavily in the three corners of the triangle so it is very dark, moving away from each corner pressing lightly to create a fading effect. Repeat this in each triangle with different colours and leave the centre of each triangle white. 2) Cut out the triangles and glue them onto your egg to make a pattern like the one in the example.

History Draw your family tree to show you, your parents and your grandparents. Ask your parents about their own grandparents and add them to your family tree. What do your parents know about your grandparents? How many siblings do your grandparents have? Write a few sentences recording the information you were told. Divide a page into four boxes. In each create a drawing to show your grandparent with their siblings and label with your grandparent’s name. How many siblings do you have? Use the source photo and the drawings you created of your grandparents’ families to write a sentence on how families are different from those in the past? Write a sentence to describe how families might still be the same today? Creative Arts - Dance

3) Cut out your egg and glue it onto a background colour of choice. Cut it out again leaving a one centimetre border around the egg. 4) Cut a narrow strip out of the leftover coloured paper for the centre ribbon, measure it to fit across the egg and cut it. 5) Tie a small piece of curling ribbon in the centre of the coloured strip and glue it across the centre of the egg.

Listen to ‘I like to move it’ or watch the Zumba routine on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymigWt5TOV8 Think about how the song makes you feel, and how you could move your body to show this. Make up a short dance to the chorus and record yourself doing the dance on a tablet, computer or phone. If you cannot make up your own dance, learn and practise the Zumba routine in the above YouTube clip. Teach your dance to someone else.

Include some physical activities outside during the week – take the dog for a walk, run around the back yard, kick the soccer ball around, use a skipping rope.

There are some optional fun Easter activities attached at the end. Please take note of app and Facebook alerts regarding a new online levelled reading program called “Wushka” that you will be able to access.

Wishing you and your family a safe, happy and healthy school break.
