The Tingira Pontoon Receives Some TLC
Members may have noticed that the Tingira Pontoon has been beached at the Clubhouse over the
past two weeks. This has been to allow much needed maintenance work and cleaning to be carried
out.
Bob Stampton and Laurie O’Toole brought the Pontoon from its mooring to the Tingira Beach at
high tide on Friday 27 July. They secured it high up on the beach so that work could be carried out
more easily during the low tides.
Moss Gets a Squirt
With the Pontoon high and dry, Moss Lane was able to carry out some repair work on the
outboard. He replaced the impeller in the water pump that keeps the engine cool.
When Moss gave it a test, it was still not pumping water as it should. Moss had to pull it apart
again to find out why it was not doing its job. The culprit was found and the pump was soon fixed.
Moss gave it a test to see how well it was working. With Moss up close looking at the water
telltale outlet the engine was started. The water pump worked well. Too well! Moss was rewarded
with a strong jet of water squirting him from the engine telltale. This provided great entertainment
for the ever helpful onlookers.
A Big Thanks to Digby Huffam!
With the outboard engine fixed, the next job was to clean the two hulls of the pontoon. Digby
Huffam put in a big day’s work last Sunday (morning and afternoon) cleaning slime, weed and
barnacles from the hulls using a water blaster and scraper.
Digby, working on his own, did a great job with the pontoon now looking so much cleaner.
3 Million Cheers and a big thank you to the members who volunteered their time to give our Club
pontoon some TLC.

This was of course prior to Moss getting a big squirt from the over efficient water pump.
