Principal’s Message
Swimming Carnival
We greatly enjoyed our school swimming carnival held last Friday at PLC pool. I was very impressed with the efforts and resilience shown by all students attending. Everyone displayed a real ‘can do’ attitude and gave their best. Thank you to Katrina McGuire for her organisation of the event. Many thanks to those parents who volunteered their time to assist with timekeeping. It is much appreciated by us all!
Parent Information Night
Our Parent Information Evening for students in Years 1-5 will be held on Wednesday 24 February between 5 and 6.15pm. In order to accommodate Year 6 camp in Week 5, the session for Year 6 will be held on Thursday 18 February at the same times.
The evening is intended to provide an opportunity for parents to meet their child’s teacher and be informed about the year ahead, the class organisation, the class program and expectations for the year. This year, due to COVID restrictions, we need to change our model slightly to allow adequate social distancing. We ask that one parent per household attend the meetings, in order to ensure we do not exceed our 30 person per room limit. If your child lives in two households, representatives from both are most welcome to attend.
Our teachers will present their class information in two sessions at 5pm and at 5.45pm. The information presented will be the same in both sessions. For parents who have children in two classes this ensures that you have the opportunity to attend both sessions should you wish.
Should you have three children at the school, I suggest both parents attending different presentations to ensure you catch the information. Should you be unable to attend, please contact your child’s teacher for a brief overview.
CPR
Next Tuesday, our staff will undertake their annual CPR and anaphylaxis practical training. During this training, our teachers will train in the use of an Epi-Pen, an anaphylaxis action plan, as well as how to perform CPR in accordance with the guidelines and principles recommended by the Australian Resuscitation Council. Topics covered include:
chain of survival
assessing the situation
DRSABCD
performing CPR
demonstrating the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED)
care of the collapsed, unconscious person
special techniques for children and infants
CPR in special circumstances
infection control
reporting procedures
recognition of an allergic reaction
how to correctly administer an Epipen
how to follow an ASCIA Action Plan for Anaphylaxis
taking appropriate first aid action
K-2 drop off in the morning
K-2 parents are reminded to not enter the classrooms in the morning and to remain on site for only 10 minutes

Sport News
What a wonderful School Swimming Carnival we had on Friday. Congratulations to all our swimmers for giving it your best and doing yourselves and your House proud! We saw 2 records fall this year. Special congratulations to Joel Pagano for the 9yrs Freestyle new record of 39.02s and Harry Ross for the 12 yrs Freestyle new record of 30.48s. The results are on the back page of the Newsletter. The next step is the Zone Swimming Carnival which will be on at PLC on Friday 5th March. Unfortunately, we can't have parent spectators so all schools will be booking a bus this year. We will be sending 3 teachers with one being the Team Manager, looking after the children in the stands. Notes should be ready by next week.
Hornsby Zone sport teams are in the process of being announced. The summer competition will commence in Week 4, with no competition running on the day of the Zone Swimming Carnival. Hornsby Zone has stated that unfortunately we are unable to permit parents to attend games this term.
Have a lovely week,

tutorial. Please note that OOSH allows students to keep their instruments in the OOSH rooms (there is a

Code of Conduct and Parent Agreement
All students will be required to sign a ‘Code of Conduct’ each year to be part of the band program. This must be
completed and placed in the band box (or handed to Mr Rowland) before participation in band will be allowed.
All parents will also be required to sign a ‘Parent Agreement’ each year. Please use this google form to read
and agree to the terms and conditions. https://forms.gle/n9casxLkh7cfXNWm6.
Commitment from both students and parents is essential to ensure the band program runs the best it can.
Band Camp: 5-7 March 2021
Band Camp information and forms have been sent out to all band families by email. If you have not received
the email, please check your spam folder, and then reach out to your band managers or the band coordinators
For convenience here is the link for the Band Camp forms: https://forms.gle/2PCGmmj64nYzn4YY7. Please
complete this form separately for each child you are registering for Band Camp. Please complete forms by
Monday 15 February, and send any special dietary requirements or allergy plans to medical-bandcamp@tps-
pandc.org.au as soon as possible.
Please note that your band camp payment is just for band camp, we will invoice for payment of Band
Contributions to cover the costs of the Band program, in Term 2.
Band Camp Volunteering
Please ensure that you have capacity to volunteer your time for a parent shift over the weekend, and that you
have submitted your working with children check paperwork. This year, adhering to COVID requirements
means that we are asking our parents to volunteer for an additional shift if at all possible, as we will need
additional parent volunteers. One of the many examples of changes this year is that previously all children ate
their meals at the same time in the dining room. This year, due to limitations on numbers in the dining room,
the camp will be split up into bands, and eat separately, so we need additional supervision outside, as well as
the usual supervision within the dining room.
Band Camp Parent Information Night
The Band Camp Parent Information night will be split into 2 sessions as below. You are welcome to attend both
if you would like to!
● Returning Band Parents (7.00pm to 7.30pm): this will focus on the changes and incremental rules due
to Covid all need to be aware of
● New Band Parents (7.30pm to 8.30pm): this will go through all the details of band camp
Band Camp and OOSH / Tutoring
If your child attends OOSH on Fridays, it is your responsibility to notify OOSH if they will not be attending on 5
March, and if they will return to OOSH after Band Camp finishes at 5pm. Similarly, if your child has a regular
Issue 3 – Tuesday 9th February, 2021 – page 7
private lesson on Friday afternoons before 5pm, please confirm with your tutor that there will be no lesson due
to Band Camp.
Tips for all Band Members
Please drop off your instruments to the band room in the morning and collect them at the end of the day. Do
not take your instrument to your classroom, they will be safe and secure in the band storeroom and won’t be a
trip hazard! Don’t forget to collect your instruments at the end of the day and they must not be left in the
storeroom over the weekend.
All band students use the band storeroom, so please treat all instruments and other people’s belongings with
care and respect. There is lots of storage space, but it needs to be used sensibly with appropriately sized
instruments placed into correct shelves and NOT left randomly on the floor!
Band parents should connect with their children’s tutors and make sure they work out the best line of
communication. Some tutors are very busy, some prefer emails or texts, while others have a practice book for
each student and only communicate with parents in writing, or face to face during lessons. It’s not always easy
starting a new tutoring relationship and it may take students a few weeks to feel comfortable.
Remember if you do not have a tutor, please contact Mr Rowland for assistance on [email protected].
