Thessaloniki is the capital of the region Central Macedoniaand it was rst established in 316 BC by Kassandros andnamed after his wife, Thessalonike, half-sister of Alexanderthe Great. The name Thessaloniki means "ThessalianVictory". It was the second most important city of theByzantine Empire, next to Constantinople. Thessaloniki is atown with rich history and an exciting present.

The city is bustling with life and movement. Large avenues, parks and squares provide nice green spaces,and trees line the commercial streets. Thessaloniki has many historically interesting sights reminding us of past times. The White Tower still standstall. It was once a part of the ancient walls that protectedthe city, and they have also survived several earthquakes.

During the summer months you can visit the nearby beaches of Perea, Nei Epivates, Agia Triada, NeaMichaniona and Epanomi. The Macedonian airport, at the area of Mikra, is the secondlargest airport of Greece and is linked with mostdestinations of Europe and the Balkan countries.
