In1986GITNwasformedtofillavoidinthemarketplaceinthehockeyschools&instructionalvideosindustry.GITNisahockey-orientedcompanythatoffersexperttrainingingoaltending,bywayofsummerhockeyschools,travelinghockeyclinics,seminars, and private consultations. Other activities range from operating real-icetrainingfacilitiestothesaleandproductionofinstructionalvideos/DVDdesignedforboththegoalieandthecoach.

Thecorporateheadofficeisresponsibleforcontinuallyupdatingmaterialandpro-vidingstafftrainingprograms.Thecorporateheadofficealsodesignsandproducesofalloftheprintedmaterial,includingbrochuresandposters,andisresponsibleforthe final development and production of new programming and DVDs; however,headofficealwaysencouragesinvolvementfromallthefranchisesinthisprocess.

After30years,GITNcontinuestothriveonthisincredibleexperiencethatchangesour student’s lives in their schooling, their attitude, their responsibility, and lastly,theirhockeythroughthefinestgoaltendinginstructionavailableinanexciting,posi-tivelearningenvironment.

GITN’s main focus is still to provide innovative help for today’s goaltenders andcoachesofallagesandcaliber,andaccomplishesthisbynotonlyoperatingawiderangeofsummerprograms,butalsobywayof travelinghockeyschools,seminars,privateconsultationsalongwithanin-depthinstructionaltrainingDVDseries.

MentaltraininghasalwaysbeenanimportantpartofthegoaliesdevelopmentandafocalpointforGITN.Reallybroughttotheforefrontin2012whenGITNbrokenewgroundwithanunprecedentedlectureseriestoassistallgoaliesgainanewperspec-tiveontheimportanceandimplementationofMentalTraining.In2015GITNagainraisedthebarunveilingthefirsteverMentalTrainingCourse(MTC)wherethestu-dentsspent3dailyclassroomsessionseachdaylearninghowtocreateandimplementapersonalplatformtohelpguidethemtostrengtheningtheirMentalGame.

Havingthebest-qualifiedandtrainedinstructorsinthegoaltendingschoolbusiness.OnlyinstructorscertifiedbyGITNareeligibletoteachourstudents.GITN’scerti-ficationprocessisuniqueandhas11differentlevelsofinstructingcertificatesintheprogram.Eachisidentifiedontheirshirtsandjerseystoallowparentsrecognizetheleveloftrainingineachstaffmember.Thisnotonlyallowsforcontinuityofourpro-grambutalsoallowsfranchisestoexchangeinstructingstaffandknowexactlywhattheirstaffwillbecapableofoperating.

TRAINING PROGRAMS FOR STAFFTryandfindanotherhockeyschoolprogramanywhere that trainsandcertifies itsstaff,whilecontinuallyupdatingtheircertificationlevelsannually?Weknowwehavetried,but it justdoesn’t seemas important to theother schools andprograms. STUDENT AWARDSGoldintheNetawardsbetween700and900medalsannuallytoitsstudent.ThesemedalsarespeciallydesignedcraftedforGoldintheNetandthereisonlyoneplaceyoucangetone,andthatisataGoldintheNetcamp.

Die-Hard MedalDie-Hard: The Die Hard medal is one of the hardest medals to win as it is chosen by the instruct-ing team to who best exemplifies a Gold in the Net student. One who is hard working, eager to learn, enthusiastic, and always courteous to everyone. It is handed out a the end of the summer program and each group of level will be awarded one.

Shoot-Out AwardShoot-Out: at the end of each camp is a shoot out where each goalie will test his skills in a break-away competition. The winner of the event for each group or level receives a Shoot-Out Cham-pionship Medal.

AchievementAchievement: This medal is awarded to all Gold in the Net students who have been to the program for 3 years or more showing their dedication and commitment to improving their game with Gold in the Net.

MinorHockeyPrograms:GITNactivelytravelsduringtheseasontoreachstudentsindistantlocationsthatarenotexposedtoourprogram.WeremaincommittedandheavilyinvolvedinMinorHockeyAssociationsacrossCanada.GITNprovidesspe-cializedgoaltendingclinicstoassistnotonlythegoaltendersthemselves,buttoguidecoachesandparentstoabetterunderstandingoftheposition.

PrivateInstruction:GITNoffersprivateprogramsduringthesummermonthsandprivatesessionsthroughoutthehockeyseason.Mostprivateprograms/sessionsaredoneinGITN’strainingfacilities.Ourinstructors,however,attendotherrinks/loca-tionstoprovideconsultationforteamsatamultitudeofskilllevels.Thisconsultationiscomprisedofofficelecturesandonicetraining.

TRAINING FACILITY In2003GITN-BCbuiltitsfirstrealicetrainingfacilityinBritishColumbia.Acosteffective facilitydesignedasaminiature icearenaequippedwithareal icesurface,boards,glass,andchangerooms.Thisallowstheprogramtooperateallyearroundinafulltimecapacity.Sincethen,GITN-ABhasbuilttheirowninSt.AlbertandGITN-ONwiththeirfacilityinBrockville.PlansareinplacetohaveallMasterFran-chisesownandoperateallyearroundwithatrainingfacility.

Volume 1An Introduction to Goaltending: All the basic movements needed to build a solid foundation. De-signed for the goaltender, his coach and the parents to assist him in development.

Volume 2 Angles and Positioning: Proper positioning and angles can be the goaltender’s strongest asset. It can help eliminate many of the inconsistencies in the goaltender’s play.

Volume 3 The Complete Butterfly: With so many different elements of the butterfly, understanding what move-ments belong where and how and when to use them allow the goaltender to maximize their use during the game.

Volume 4 Forward Motion: Has the body moving forward towards the puck instead of retreating back, forming an illusion for the player, letting him think he has more room to shoot than he actually does.

Volume 5 Transition: Showing the goaltender when and how to handle the puck more efficiently. Taking the coach through the steps necessary to combine his goalies puck handling skill with his team’s offen-sive transition.

Volume 6 Playing a System: Successful goalies need a system which to play in conjunction with their style. Helps goalies create their very own system to compliment their game.

Volume 7 Power Skating: The goaltender’s skating ability directly relates to his performance on the ice. Helps improve balance, strength and speed to create explosive power on the ice.

Volume 8 Explosive Power: An off ice conditioning program using a combination of plyometrics, sprint, resis-tance and agility training to improve your speed and strength to give you more explosive power.

Volume 9 A Game of Control: Controlling the depth in the goalies position maximizes the coverage of the net, allowing the goalie to possess the opportunity to stop every shot taken.

Volume 10 The Dreaded Goalie Slump: Identifies key components of the slump and how to stop or prevent one, as well as the recovery necessary to regain full confidence in the goalies game.

MASTER INSTRUCTORThe top level that GITN assigns to the people that actually help build and contribute to the program. This person can only be appointed by the corporate head & CEO Perry Elderbroom

SENIOR CHIEF INSTRUCTORThis is the person in charge of the instructional component for each franchise. This person is graded by the corporate after being evaluated during special franchise training seminar, which will include both on and off ice components.

HEAD INSTRUCTORMust have a minimum of 3 summers experience as an Instructor and be sponsored by the Master Instructor. Successfully take and pass all written, oral and on ice exams designed for the both the instructing levels as well as administrative component. There will be 3 levels of Head Instructor with 3 being the most senior.

INSTRUCTORMust have a minimum of 2 summers experience along with 8 pro-grams worked and be sponsored by a Head Instructor or Master In-structor. Successfully take and pass all written, oral and on ice exams designed for the instructing levels of the program. There will be 3 lev-els of Instructor with 3 being the most senior.

ASSITANT OR INTERN INSTRUCTORSuccessfully complete G.I.T.N. Instructor Training seminar. Assist in a minimum of 5 programs as a Helper and be sponsored by an Instruc-tor, Head Instructor or Master Instructor. Successfully take and pass all written, oral and on ice exams designed for the instructing levels of the program.

HELPERSuccessfully complete G.I.T.N. Helper Training seminar. Assist in a minimum of 3 G.I.T.N. summer pro-grams as a Helper in Training. Successfully take and pass all written, oral and on ice exams designed for the Helper level. There will be a Level I & II option with the Level II being the most senior.

Cornwell MemorialScholarshipFund.Thescholarshipannu-allyawardsGITNstudentsandstaffwithbursaries inrecognitionof thededicationandcommitmentinthepursuitofhockeyandacademicachievement.Inthefirst10years of the scholarship’s existence, GoldintheNethasawardedmorethen57bur-sariesand$57,000tostudents.AaronCornwellwasastudentofGITNwhoselifewascutshorttragicallyinacarac-cidentin1999.Aaronwasself-driven,motivatedandhekneweverythinghewantedtodoandhowtodoit.HeplannedonplayingJr.“A”inCanadawhilefurtheringhiseducationtobecomeaMarineBiologist.Itiswiththisthatwebringhis2passionstogetherinanannualeventthatwillhelpothersintheirpursuitofexcellencethroughtheirhockeyandacademicsskills.TheAnnualGITNGolfClassichasbeenthemainsourceoffundraisingforthebur-saryprogramandhashadgreatsupportfromHenrikLundqvistandtheNewYorkRanger,PresidentandCEOofGITNPerryElderbroom’sformerteamtheColumbusBlueJacketshavesupportedtheevent.AswellassomeoftheotherNHLteamsandVaughnHockeyhasbeenatremendoussupporterofthisevent.OriginallyhostedonVancouverIsland,nowithastwolocationseachyear,onebeinghostedinParksvilleonbeautifulVancouverIslandaswellasSt.AlbertAlberta.WithstrongcommunitysupportinbothlocationsithasallowedGITNtogivebacktokidsinaveryspecialway.Youcanalwayscheckoutourwebsiteformoredetailsonhowtogetinvolvedorsupporttheprogram.

Itisforthisreasonwebringhistwopassionstogetherinanannualcelebrationthatwillhelpothers in theirpursuitof excellence through theirhockey andacademicsskills.Duringthepast3yearsGoldintheNethasawarded12verydeservingstudentseachwitha$1,000.00bursarytoassisttheminfurtheringtheireducation.Eachyearitgrows,inthefirstyearwegaveoutthreebursaries,thesecondyearwegaveoutfourandinthethirdyearwegaveoutfivebursa-ries.Itisestimatedthatwewillbeawarding$10,000.00to$15,000.00annuallywithinthenextfiveyears.
