KILLEEN CHEVROLET AND THE MOUNTED WARRIOR MUSEUM
Fort Hood, established in 1942 is the
heartbeat of Killeen, Texas and the
surrounding areas. With 45,414 assigned
soldiers and 8,900 civilian employees Fort
Hood covers 214,000 acres and it boasts
the largest United States military installa-
tion in the World. The National Mounted
Warfare Foundation is an organization
based in Killeen that is raising money to
build a Mounted Warrior Museum. The
Museum will represent the history of
mounted Soldiers – the ones that rode into
battle on horseback, as well as the tanker
and infantrymen, the artillerymen and
aviators, the logistician, engineers, military
policemen, signalers and intelligence
Soldiers who fought alongside. The
Museum will tell the history of the
mounted Soldier’s combined team efforts,
a force for freedom so many times in our
nation’s history. The City of Killeen
pledged its financial support to the project,
and Fort Hood provided land for the
museum outside the post’s security
perimeter to provide easy access to all
visitors.
Lithia Chevrolet of Killeen has a tagline in
their advertising: Great Selection, Great
Deals and Great People. Besides actually
having a great vehicle selection and great
deals, the great people part of the tagline
rings true. General Manager Mark Click to Watch

Chockran is a General Manager that is
tapped into the community, a community
rich with Military history. Killeen Chevro-
let along with local businesses has donated
to the Mounted Warrior Museum cause
helping the Foundation get closer to their
goal. Mark found a need to be filled to
help the Foundation raise money. The
Foundation needed a video to show
prospective donors how important this
project was to the City of Killeen and Fort
Hood. The LAD Marketing Team, Killeen
Chevrolet and the Mounted Warfare
Foundation teamed up to create a Public
Service Announcement TV spot. This
would enable the Foundation to share
their message with people in and outside
the community, the USA and the World.
See the PSA video below. It’s involvement
such as Killeen Chevrolet and The
Mounted Warrior Museum that make
Lithia Motors proud to be a part of our
communities. Nice going Team!

This classis summer salad is the perfect
base. Feel free to swap out your favorite

Dear Miss Sally/ Josephine,
I received an email yesterday from a co-worker and her email signature was a little on the strange side. I’m all for expressing
yourself, but she had two different fonts, 3 different colors, a quote that was on the questionable side. It seemed very
unprofessional to me, is there a guideline on what our email signatures should look like?
- Seeking Standard Signature
DEAR MISS SALLY & DEAR JOSEPHINE
Dear Readers-Josephine King has been taken off of suspension and is back on with us on a probationary period, we will hear her opinion along with Miss Sally to get different viewpoints and we will let you, the reader decide which opinion you like the best and want to hear from here on out.
8
Dear Seeking,
Well, as you know I am not a shrinking violet in any aspect of my life and I want everyone to know about my
quirky, fun and outgoing personality. I think that if you have an area in which to show off your creativity then
by all means let your freak flag fly!
If people are offended or think it isn’t business like then they clearly don’t know how to have fun. I think that
expressing yourself is a way of life, and you should never hold it in. I have awesome opinions and the quote I have is from a literary
genius, who am I to keep that information to myself? I will attach my signature and you can see how awesome it is.
Dear Seeking,
I think you are absolutely correct in thinking that our email signatures should reflect the company we are
representing. I remember when I was just a young thing and my husband had to get dressed for work, he always had
a pressed suit, briefcase, hat and his shoes were always shined. He was a working professionaly and people relied on
his apprearance to determine if he was professional or not. Nowadays, we have these fancy computers and hardly
ever meet the peope we do business with in person. Our email should be a reflection of the type of business they can
expect from us, professional, businesslike, and set to a certain conformity. I love those pictures of the kittens caught up in some mischief, and
my Facebook is full of those cute little videos with the snappy music added, but my work email signature is free from fuzzy furballs. I want
people to get a feeling of professionalism when they receive an email from me. I like to cut a rug and let loose and have fun, and I bake a
mean mince meat pie but I’m not going to address that in my email signature. You have a super sunshiney day!

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: DR. MIRELA CVIJANOVIC
Recently, Mr. R.U. Mild-Mannered,
the local beat reporter for Common
Crossroads- caught up with Dr. Mirela
Cvijanovic while she was waiting to
board a plane to places unknown…
MM: How long have you been practicing
medicine?
Dr. Mirela: I graduated in 1990… so 24
years of working as a physician.
MM: How long have you lived in the Rogue
Valley?
Dr. Mirela: Exactly one year. We moved
here in July 2013.
MM: Where are you from originally?
Dr. Mirela: I was born in a small town in
Croatia. My two sisters and I grew up
international… living in Croatia, India,
Austria, and Africa.
MM: Where did you do your schooling?
Dr. Mirela: I attended high school and
med school in Croatia.
MM: And your training after med school?
Dr. Mirela: I did my internship and
residency in Indiana. I was an assistant
director of residency and associate
professor at Indiana University.
MM: So why IM?
Dr. Mirela: Internal medicine is the
queen of medicine! It is about figuring
out the diagnosis…putting the pieces
together…trying to connect all the
dots…it’s about taking care of the
whole person.
MM: You’re married… right?
Dr. Mirela: Yes! Goran- we met in med
school. He is also an internist at Asante
Physicians Partners.
MM: You’re laughing…
Dr. Mirela: It is a standing joke that
medical students marry whomever they
end up sitting next to in class… as they
never leave school long enough to meet
other people.
MM: And your trek to the US?
Dr. Mirela: My husband and I began our
American adventure in 1992 during the
war in our country… two suitcases and a
diploma…wonderful people helped us
along the way…with wisdom and
guidance… great mentors and teachers
shared their knowledge and experience…
MM: What are the pros and cons of your
career choice?
Dr. Mirela: It is time to give back...so
really…cannot say any cons to the career
we chose…and being part of
Lithia…being on site…immersed and part
of the community has great potential and
contributes to healing.
MM: Any kids?
Dr. Mirela: One son. His name is Luka
Filip- he is thirteen.
MM: How about pets?
Dr. Mirela: No pets… just orchids…
MM: What was your first job?
Dr. Mirela: I was a housekeeper for an
Austrian family… I guess that continues,
but in my own home.
MM: Do you have any hobbies?
Dr. Mirela: Oh yes! I enjoy hiking,
traveling, and cooking! We Croatians love
our bread- so I bake it every day! I favor
the practice of yoga on a daily basis on,
and more importantly, off the mat.
MM: Where are you practicing medicine
when you aren’t on site at Lithia HQ?
Dr. Mirela: The Lithia Employee Clinic
is my only place of practice for now. It’s
taking a lot of behind-the-scenes work and
it’s a commitment on my part for getting it
up and running… anything else would be
a distraction… it is a new born that still
needs constant care.

ncini). We paid for our food, filled our
own drinks and found a seat. 10 minutes
later they brought our food to our table –
our jaws dropped at how big the
sandwiches were. Again, see the pictures.
My sandwich did not disappoint. The
roast beef was fresh (not dry) and had a
perfect amount of veggies to where you
could taste them in every bite. The garlic
on the bread was in no way overpowering,
it actually gave a good subtle hint that
made me go –
“MMMMMMMMmmmmmm” as I bit
in to and chewed every succulent bite of
this beautiful masterpiece.
I thoroughly enjoyed my sandwich; here’s
what the others had to say about their
experience:
Chad Blaylock: “The cold pastrami on
garlic bread was great. The 6” size was
more than enough food. Props to the
amount of meat in their portions!”
R&D’s Sandwich Factory
by Buddy Lawruk
So a co-worker says to me “What’s for
lunch?”. I’m all, “I dunno, whatchu
thinkin?”. He’s like - “Dude, R&D’s
Sandwich Factory!”. I’m all - “Naw…
they don’t accept debit cards.”. He’s all
“Yes they do!”….. WHAT?!?!?
Yes, the infamous R&D’s Sandwich
Factory that is located at 1132 N. River-
side Ave in Medford used to be a cash-only
restaurant. They’ve recently changed
ownership and have added the ability to
pay with debit cards. We decided to head
on down to see if they’ve maintained the
integrity of their sandwiches.
Walking in to the restaurant you’re met
with a menu mounted to the wall next to
the ‘Order Here’ window. They offer
MANY varieties of hot and cold
sandwiches (too many to list here) along
with sides of potato/pasta salads, chips,
desserts, etc. You can order sandwiches in
4, 6 or 8 inch sizes. That being said don’t
be fooled by their sizes (see the pictures).
I opted for a cold 6-inch roast beef
sandwich on toasted garlic bread (yes…
toasted garlic bread) with everything on it
(mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato, peppero-

COMMON EATS
Jo King: “Having the convenience of the
debit card machine was nice, but my
sandwich wasn’t as good as it used to be.
I got the albacore tuna and there was way
too much mayo and it was just not that
great. If I’m going to pay 6 bucks for a
sandwich, it better be a dang good
sandwich!
David Biondi: “Zesty sauce, tasty
meatballs, parmesan cheese all cradled
together in perfectly cooked sourdough
bread. A true Italian treat!!!”
Be sure to make your way in to R&D’s
Sandwich Factory SOON! They’re open
from 10am to 4pm Monday through
Saturday. You can call in your orders (they
also do catering) at 541-776-0988 – you
