Will Agate – The Navy Yard Will Agate is PIDC’s Senior Vice President, Navy Yard Man-agement and Development. He serves on Penn State’s Con-sortium for Building Energy Innovation (CBEI, formerly EEB Hub) Operating Committee as well as a number of civic boards in the Greater Philadelphia region.
The Navy Yard is a dynamic and modern 1,200-acre business campus with more than 11,500 employees and 145 companies occupying more than 7.0 million SF. It is currently undergoing the implementation of its comprehen-sive Energy Master Plan that deploys various smart grid technologies and distributed energy resources to establish its own operating microgrid.
Kurt Bresser – Temple University Kurt Bresser is Temple University’s Energy Manager. He is responsible for managing the utility cost and consumption at all Temple University & Health System facilities on the Main, Health Sciences Center, Ambler, Podiatric and Center City campuses.
Temple University main campus is comprised of two utility services, 16MW generation plant, and a medium voltage electrical distribution system that serves over 30MW of campus loads. The university utilizes their plant to re-duce external peaks, saving on demand charges and adding revenues through PJM markets. It has also made the system much more resilient giving the cam-pus the ability to serve critical loads and keep their students and faculty on campus during a significant utility outage.
Caleb Stratton – City of Hoboken Caleb Stratton is a Principal Planner and Resiliency Task Force Coordinator for the City of Hoboken, NJ. His work focuses on projects associated with long range planning, cli-mate adaptation and hazard mitigation. He holds a Master of Science in Sustainability, with a concentration in Architec-ture from the Bernard & Anne Spitzer School at the City College of New York.

John Geitner – New Jersey Transit
Mr. Geitner has been involved in environmental management and energy programs for over 15 years. At NJ Transit, Mr. Geitner is responsible for all environmental compli-ance and permitting programs, NJ Transit’s Energy Management programs as well as NJ Transit’s sustainable practices and sustainability reporting programs.
New Jersey Transit is looking to establish its own microgrid to make its transit systems more resilient. The proposed microgrid system would include a natural gas powered electric generating plant, with supporting solar photovoltaic and combined heat and
power generation, that would allow NJ Transit the ability to operate independently during widespread or extended outages. Registration for this meeting is through the Globalcon website, or guests can pay $20 at the door.

Caleb Stratton – City of Hoboken (continued) The City of Hoboken was hit hard during Superstorm Sandy and is investigating how microgrids may improve their community’s energy resilience. The City of Hoboken will designate critical community facilities to deliver un-interrupted electrical service during disaster events, black-outs and brown-outs on a community microgrid.

Developing Solut ions to Commercial Bui ld ing Benchmarking
and Transparency Chal lenges

The Consortium for Building Energy Innovation is hosting an in-person and virtual day-long workshop to share and further develop solutions related to building energy benchmarking and transparency policy and programs. The objective will be to engage members of the benchmarking and transparency community, building owners, real estate finance professionals, real estate services, building designers, builders, utilities, and suppliers of ener-gy efficient building strategies and their service providers in discussion and collaboration to identify solutions to make it easier for the community to achieve desired results.
The event will be organized according to three panels and idea-generation activities: on the ways we can use benchmarking and transparency policy to increase the energy efficiency of the building stock; ways to make the data capture processes in benchmarking and transparency programs more effective; and ways the technical re-sources can help make benchmarking and transparency useful for driving retrofits.
Guests on the panels include others in the benchmarking and transparency research and implementation com-munity, including, but not limited to representatives from the Institute for Market Transformation (IMT), the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE), The Climate Leadership Group (C40), the City of Philadelphia, and others.

2015 SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH
THE AEE FOUNDATION
The Foundation of the Association of Energy Engineers Scholarship Fund promotes
continuing education of qualified professionals in energy engineering and energy management. The Foun-
dation receives funding from voluntary Chapter and personal contributions. This year, the Greater Phila-
delphia Chapter will donate two $1,000 scholarships to local students, both undergraduate and masters
programs, who apply for the award. The association works with the Foundation to facilitate the applica-
tion process. The application period opens January 1, 2015. All applications must be received by the local
chapter Scholarship Chair, Randy Haines, by April 1, 2015. Applications are then reviewed and final rec-
ommendations are submitted to the Scholarship Director at national by May 1, 2015. Award winners are
notified by the Foundation over the summer.

EDUCATION INITIATIVE: VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
STUDENT - ENERGY PROFESSIONAL MEETING LIAISON
In our effort to attract and grow our student participation and membership, we are launching an Education Ini-tiative to connect students interested in attending GPAEE meetings with a Member Liaison. GPAEE repre-sentatives met with Drexel University staff earlier this year to explore opportunities to engage with Drexel stu-dents about energy, efficiency and climate topics. The conversation was well received by University representa-tives and resulted in a next step of encouraging students to attend the January and February GPAEE meet-ings. The Member Liaison initiative was then created to help these students have a positive first experience with our group and offer an opportunity to connect one on one with energy professionals. Member Liaisons would be responsible for:
1. Contacting the student in advance of the meeting to introduce themselves & get some understanding of what the student would like to accomplish by attending a GPAEE meeting
2. Meeting with the student at the designated meeting site and helping the student get accustomed to the meeting environment
3. Introducing student to at least 2 other members; preference to members that meet student's interests or goals for attending the meeting (if known)
4. Get any feedback from student on his/her meeting experience & on whether goal(s) were met.

Despite ominous weather reports and some snow in the morning the competition was a great suc-cess. Thirty one schools braved the weather to compete. Queen of Angels Regional Catholic School won first place and will represent the Philadelphia region at the National Future City finals in Washing-ton DC on February 15.
Forty five companies, organizations, and individuals sponsored Special Awards which were evaluated and awarded at the competition. All of the competing schools received at least one award. The GPAEE award entitled “Best Energy-Based Project” was awarded to the team from Springfield Township Middle School. The team from Springfield was not able to stay at the competition to the 4pm Awards ceremo-ny so the award will be mailed to them.

GOV. TOM WOLF OUTLINES PROMISED TAX ON NATURAL GAS Three months ago, voters, many angry over the loss of education funding, made history by booting from office a sitting governor many viewed as responsible for the loss of thousands of teaching jobs and classroom programs for their children. On Wednesday, newly installed Gov. Tom Wolf sought to capitalize on that sentiment to achieve a campaign promise of taxing natural gas production. (more)
PENNSYLVANIA GOVERNOR PROPOSES BIG INVESTMENTS IN RENEWABLE ENERGY AND EFFICIENCY Today, in his first budget address as Governor of Pennsylvania, Tom Wolf proposed $325 million in investments in the state’s energy sector, including significant investments in wind, solar, and energy efficiency. This proposal is part of an overall economic development plan aimed at investing in educa-tion and creating high-paying jobs across the Commonwealth. What does it mean? (more)

ENERGY DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES 2016 COLLEGIATE WIND COMPETITION PARTICIPANTS The Energy Department on February 18 announced the 12 collegiate teams selected to participate in the Department's second Collegiate Wind Competition. The competition challenges teams of under-graduate students to design and build a model wind turbine based on market research and siting con-siderations, develop a business plan to market their products, and test their turbines against a set of rigorous performance criteria. CBEI Summer 2015 Internship Program Appl icat ions Are Open
The Consortium for Building Energy Innovation (CBEI) is now accepting applications for the Summer 2015 internship program. CBEI is a program of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Effi-ciency and Renewable Energy Building Technology Office and is developing technology packages and mar-ket pathways to reduce energy use in commercial buildings by 50%. CBEI is leveraging technological applications, policies, and programs to help drive commercial building en-ergy efficiency and the Summer 2015 internship projects reflect this diversity of ideas. The Summer 2015 internship projects are broken into three categories: Modeling; Indoor Environmental Quality; and Educa-tion and Training. The internship is a 40 hour per week, 8 week long program beginning on June 1, 2015. Internships are paid at a rate of $15/hr for undergraduate and $20 for graduate students. Interns will be working in the newly renovated CBEI Headquarters building located at The Navy Yard in Philadelphia. This high-efficiency building is both a demonstration of an energy efficient retrofit of a historic building and a living laboratory that will play a large part in many of this summer’s projects. The internship cohort will be offered opportu-nities to engage with leaders in the growing field of building energy efficiency, including through a series of planned seminars at CBEI. Electrical Engineer
An Electrical Engineering firm in the Philadelphia suburbs is looking for a key member of their Electrical Department that will be responsible for all tasks related to the development of construction documentation (plans and specifica-tions), project management, and construction administration for Commercial, Residential, and Government construc-tion projects. The successful candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited engineering university, a minimum of 6 years’ experience in the electrical engineering and construction industry, and proficiency with AutoCAD. EIT required, P.E. preferred.
This is a smaller flexible firm with a less corporate environment. This position would also be attractive to someone who wants to have a variety of experiences and work on lots of different types of projects, form park lighting projects, to the new Comcast building temporary power, to generator installations at fire houses, to multi-family dwellings, to arc flash studies and everything in between. The compensation is in the $80K to $95K range depending on experience and they offer full benefits, including vacation, 401k and health benefits.

Supervise plant operators, train Process Operators in all facets of operations safety and fire-fighting and periodically evaluates Process Operator performance via proper documentation. Insures all facilities are operated in a safe and reliable manner in accordance with PGW’s procedures and regulations. Other duties and projects as assigned.
PROJECT MANAGER – CUSTOMER AFFAIRS The Customer Affairs Project Manager position must have experience in Call Center Operations and the ability to lead enterprise wide initiatives. He / She is responsible for planning, organizing and coordinating various projects and program analyses regard-ing the services, policies and practices of customer service operations.
