The culmination of hard work, costuming, practise, good will and the gift of time by our staff to support this program is so appreciated by all. As with anything, hours of work especially behind the scenes, happen, to make these events the showcase of public school talent that they are. The fact that our beautiful kids just love to perform is also an advantage! I know as a Dad in the audience and also as a Principal, there was a tremendous amount of pride knowing what opportunities our children have compared to other schools. My congrats to Ms van Klink, Mrs Wignall, Miss Robinson, Mrs Nelson, Mrs Reichelt, Mrs Lindley and Mrs Osborne. Wet Weather A reminder about road safety outside the school especially on wet days. For some reason, when there is rain, safety is compromised and dangerous practices suddenly occur. Please no double parking, telling children to run across the pedestrian crossing or trying to coax children across Bangalay Dr! We need to be role models all the time to our children and ultimately, we don’t want anyone injured. Ethics The implementation of Ethics at Tacking Point is progressing and Mrs Shannon Larkin will be the coordinator of this. Training is this weekend for interested parents. A reminder that the implementation will be small in 2018, with hopefully 3 classes across K-2. In time, when more parents are trained there will be more classes and naturally 3-6 will be involved in this program in 2019. 77-105 Bangalay Drive, PORT MACQUARIE. From the Desk of Mr Harris Dear Parents and Caregivers, Congratulations to all our dancers, who have been involved in this week’s Dance Festival. Payments A request is made by all staff, that payments for excursions, sport, dance etc be made on time. If no payment and note has been returned, children will not be able to attend these events. Out of good will staff are ringing parents to remind them but with “time” a precious commodity in school life this practice is not sustainable. The Skoolbag app is a wonderful resource with calendar dates as an option. Reports Reports will be issued on the Thursday of the last week of term. Please take the time to share your child’s successes throughout the year. School Contacts If you have recently moved or changed emergency contacts please advise the office immediately. Our records always need to be accurate. I will be in Sydney this week at the NSW PPA State Council meeting, as President for our local area of Principals and schools. I will be on leave in Week 9 and Mrs Jordan will be Relieving Principal during that time. Mr Rob Harris will be relieving Deputy Principal that week and Mr Brad Pees will be 2H’s teacher for that week following the 2H program. Yours in education Mr Phil Harris Principal From the Deputy Principals 7 things we can learn from The World Cup of Football 1. Celebrate life Just as all aspects of football are being celebrated at the moment in Russia, in life we need to do likewise. Enjoy the whole experience. We need to revisit what success is and learn to embrace the present, and forget about future anxieties. Winning or losing in the game of life is relative. The real winners are those who celebrate and enjoy every moment of life. 2. Pressure is part and parcel of the game – learn to manage it Stay focused – do not let external pressure detract you from your goals. Bust that stress – take steps daily to “de-stress” by engaging “letting off steam” rituals. Think happy thoughts – Some use humour to absorb the pressure and turn it into positive energy. 3. Flexibility matters Just as there are constant changes in a game of football, there are constant changes to deal with in your life. Are you flexible enough to change and adapt? Try and have a contingency secondary plan when things do not pan out as expected. 4. You can still win when you lose You win when people see authenticity You win when you give your best You win when you try to the very end You win when your performance is world-class 5. There is no “i” in team To truly win you need a team – a team who works together, with each other and for each other. 6. Winning requires different formations For every game a manager needs to think about tactics and come up with the best formation to overcome the obstacles they will face in a game. We need to have different strategies to overcome different situations that arise in our lives.

7. Never believe the doubters How many times have we listened to negative feedback and started to wander away from our goals? The reality is things will never be as bad as it seems. The truth lies in between. How we respond to these doubters will determine our success. 'Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.' – Pele Mrs Kelly Jordan and Mr Trevor Thompson Deputy Principals Hunter School of the Performing Arts Visit The choir from Hunter School of the Performing Arts will be visiting our school on Tuesday 26th June. They will be performing for all of our choir students (Allegro, Colla Voce and Bel Canto) from 2 -3pm. They have requested a gold coin donation from all audience members to help with the cost of touring. “It will be an action packed concert with a mix of choir and solo performances, a variety of instruments will be incorporated as well as singing and some audience participation. Our aim will be to entertain, educate and inspire our young audiences.” Sarah Reeve Head Teacher Music Hunter School of the Performing Arts Naidoc Day This year theme is “Because of her we can” Thursday 5th July 2018 Tacking Point Public School will be celebrating NAIDOC Day on Thursday 5th July 2018. Our K-6 NAIDOC Assembly will be at 9.00am. During the day, all children from K-6 will participate in Aboriginal dancing. Local Aboriginal performer Steven Donovan will teach each year group a dance, whilst also sharing knowledge and stories of Aboriginal culture. This will take place in the school hall and there is no cost involved for our students. As part of our celebrations we would like all students to wear a black, red, or yellow t- shirt (Aboriginal colours) for the day with their school shorts. North Coast Cross Country On Wednesday 13th June, 11 students from Tacking Point Public School represented the Lower north Coast at the North Coast Cross Country Trials at Nana Glen. We are proud of all our athletes; they competed with passion! We would like to wish Grace, Oto and Max the best of luck for the next stage, The State Cross Country which is being held in Sydney. Mrs Sally Norman Cross Country Coordinator

The Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition A wonderful effort from all students in Stage 2 and Stage 3 who created interesting, meaningful, speeches demonstrating understanding of multicultural topics. Firstly students presented their speech before their own class audience. Students from each class were selected to present their speech at the annual Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition held in the school hall on Thursday, 14th June. We thank Ms Lisa Rea from Hastings Secondary College for her adjudication of the competition. Ms Rea was very impressed with the excellent speeches and thoroughly enjoyed the entire competition. The winners gave outstanding speeches. The Stage 2 medal winners were Gabby Turner and Jessica Miles The Stage 3 medal winners were Aiden Moore-Jones and Seppe Beeckmans Congratulations to the students and wish them success as they represent Tacking Point Public School at the district level.

Hockey Report Year 6 student Tyse Thrower has recently joined a small group of students from our schools’ sporting history. Tyse was named in the NSW PSSA Hockey team after captaining the North Coast team at the State Championships. The North Coast team placed 4th in the state after narrowly missing a place in the grand final. He is only the 7th student in our school to represent NSW PSSA. Good luck to Tyse next term when he plays in the National Championships in Newcastle. Well done Tyse!
