• To give students more insights in the Grand Societal Challenges
• To give the students insights in big societal transitions

STATEMENT
The Method
•Take a Grand societal challenge
•Take a theme in the GSC
•Problem finding (current situation)
• Look at the factors (signals for change) and actors
•Think of a beautiful world (visualize 2050)
•Give yourself a norm of the future goal
•Tell it in a story of the future (storyboard)

Lesson 1 & 2:
Examples of the themes:
In 2050• Are minorities the majority - Society - Anne, Rianne & Jolijn• Nobody overconsumes.
Bio-economy – Elisa, Rowan & Lieke• Globally has everybody connection to a energy network which is
self supporting Energy & Transport - Tim • Takes society care of the elderly
Wellbeing – Lotte, Rowan & Pleuni• Are we our own employer.
Society – Annette, Saskia, Yvette & Jeanne• Are refugees part of our society
Society – Eva, Amber, Renske• Society sees a difference between food & feast
Bio-economisch – Robin, Baukje & Charlie.
• Look as if your idea of the future “value proof” to use the value framework
•Analyse current situation further
•Formulate the transition path
•Take one transition path and start in the now

Recommendations
1. To learn the students about the method ‘prototyping the future with sustainable value’• There role in influencing the future
• Too much time spent in how to tell the story instead of making the story.
2. To give students more insights in the Grand Societal Challenges• System thinking
• Need of a broader horizon
• Need of losing boundaries in imagination : 35 year in the future is far away
3. To give the students insights in big societal transitions • Some insights in change processes: stakeholders, storytelling.
• Lack of time

Our Lifestyle students are creative, are trained to see changes in society, value trends and can develop concepts. Despite of this background we found out that our students are capped in their time frame paradigm's
•How can we help them –students- to break free and explore their futures in a timeframe of 30 years or more?
