Section 1 PUB-7/11 Bill Acceptor General Information

Model/Type Number Specifications

Precautions

The Figure 1-2 symbols are defined as follows:1. (Type 1) Do not insert a torn, folded, or wet

bill, as this action may cause a bill jam inside the unit.

2. (Type 2) Do not expose the unit to water. The unit contains several precision elec-tronic devices which can be damaged if water or any liquid is sprayed or spilled into the unit.

3. (Type 3) Do not install the unit into a dusty environment. Dust may affect and degrade the sensor’s performance.

User Cautions1. Allow sufficient space around the Validator

within the Host Machine to facilitate the unit’s removal and bill collection.

2. When mounting the Takio unit: – Do not obstruct the Acceptor’s air intake

holes so sufficient cooling can occur. – Do not use the Acceptor where

temperature variations widely fluctuate.

– - Do not use the Acceptor in direct sunlight or in strong incandescent lighting (15-degree angle or less, 3000 Lux or more).

– The acceptor is intended for indoor use only. Do not use the Acceptor outdoors.

– Do not use the Acceptor in places where chemical vapors are present.

– When using the Acceptor in places where the air is subject to automobile exhaust emission or cigarette smoke, please clean and maintain the Acceptor at intervals shorter than normal.

3. When connecting the Taiko wiring harness: – Ensure the power is off before plugging

or unplugging connectors. – Be sure to use in the specified power

range and pin assignment. If not, the unit may be damaged.

– Be sure to connect the power harness connectors firmly, otherwise an incorrect input/output contact failure may occur.

– Do not pull on the power harness to disconnect its connector or damage may occur.

4. When operating the Taiko unit: – Be sure to remove power to the unit when

opening the upper or lower lid, otherwise your fingers may get caught in the active rollers, and take care that no dust or other foreign objects can enter the unit when opening the guide area.

– When closing the upper lid, be careful not to get your finger caught in between the lid and catch.

– Firmly close the unit’s Transport path lid, and ensure all service door locks click into place before applying power.

– Do not allow inventory stock to endure high temperature, high humidity or a dusty environment.

5. Inserting worn or damaged bills may cause a jam.

6. Do not throw the unit or allow it to fall to the ground. Improper handling may cause internal damage to the unit.

7. If the Validator section is dirty due to dust, foreign objects, or other such debris adhering to it, bill acceptance rate will degrade. Use a soft, lint-free cloth and a mild non-abrasive soap and water solution to clean dust and debris from the bill path.

Section 1 PUB-7/11 Bill Acceptor General Information

Primary FeaturesThe Taiko PUB-7/11 Series of Bill Validators contains the following primary features:

• Easy Installation – Installation and removal of a TAIKO unit is

very easy because of its clip-on style. Anyone can install a TAIKO unit quickly (See Figure 1-6 ).

• Data Scanning Frequency – Data scanning frequency can be selected by

setting DIP Switches. Scanning once or twice is selectable. The acceptance rate can be improved by setting it to scan twice (See Figure 1-7 ).

• Proven Anti-pullback (anti-fishing) Technology

– This JCM patented Anti-Pullback Mechanism provides powerful protection against bill stringing (fishing). The drum rotates every time a bill passes through the unit, and tangles any foreign object attached to the bill such as string and/or tape around itself (See Figure 1-8).

– One or five rotations is DIP Switch selectable. The greatest fishing protection is obtained by selecting the five rotation setting.

A TROUBLESHOOTINGThis section provides Troubleshooting instructions for the Taiko Bill Acceptor Series (PUB-7/11). This section contains the following information:

• Introduction• Troubleshooting Overview• Fault Table Listings• Performance Test Diagnostics• LED Diagnostic Codes.

IntroductionMost Bill Acceptor failures are due to minor causes. Before replacing any parts, make sure that all assembly and circuit board connectors are properly fitted and the harnesses are properly connected.Faulty bill acceptance is often caused when dust or iron powder adheres to the identification sensor, magnetic sensor or transport rollers. Clean the acceptor section first, then observe the operating state of acceptor in detail when initializing power.

If the acceptor head has to be repaired by dis-assembling it, always re-calibrate the sensors following the repair.Perform all repairs by referring to theProgramming & Calibration /Performance Test Diagnostics pro-cedures in Section 6; those in the Disassembly/Reassembly procedures in Section 4 and the procedures found in this Appendix regarding your specific repair.

Troubleshooting OverviewThe Taiko PUB-7/11 allows the operator to per-form fault diagnosis by checking various fault table listings against the symptom and survey the cause(s) of any failure occurrences during the process. After determining the cause of the failure, execute the Performance Test, perform a sensor readjustment and then repair the Taiko Unit by replacing any appropriate parts deemed necessary.

Fault Table ListingsTable A-1 through Table A-3 list the various possible Taiko fault conditions that can occur and the necessary actions required to correct them.
