Welcome to the Tricycle

TAKEOVER FESTIVAL 2014 30 MAR - 5 APR

Welcome to the first ever Tricycle Takeover Festival.

For an entire week, we the under 26s are completely taking over the Tricycle, packing it with theatre, film, music and poetry by emerging and established artists.

During the week you can see seven new plays performed by young people on the Tricycle stage, have the opportunity to engage with professional artists and get involved in a variety of events taking place all over the building.

It is a platform to support young people starting out in their careers but just as importantly, it’s a great week of performance.

Join us to celebrate this exciting event.

‘I’ve seen you. Putting up the shutters like you’re the only real person here, everyone else just robots you have to avoid, like in some computer game.’

A bus, a food van, a salon, a clothes shop.

Preoccupied with the daily grind, the residents of Kilburn High Road are busy. Too busy, in fact, to notice each other.

But when a stranger arrives, their worlds begin to collide in a way that no one saw coming.

Suhayla El-Bushra is a playwright who grew up in Kilburn. Her plays include: Cuckoo (Unicorn 2014) Pigeons (Royal Court 2013) False Teachers (66 Books, Bush 2011).

The Kilburn Passion is a new commission written for the Tricycle Young Company.

As part of the very first Tricycle Takeover Festival we are proud to present NT Connections as a partner venue. Each year the National Theatre invites ten writers to create new plays for young people to perform. This spring 230 youth theatre companies will present the premieres of these plays in venues from Scotland to Cornwall and Northern Ireland to Norfolk and we are delighted that the Tricycle’s first ever Takeover Festival is part of it.

Connections celebrates great new writing for the stage – and the energy, commitment and talent of young theatre-makers.

DOUBLE BILL: SUN 30 MAR, 2pm

HeartsBy Luke NorrisPresented by 360 Youth Theatre

Venue: Theatre

Sacred Heart FC’s days are numbered, but they’re not going down without a fight. Despite the dead mice in the toilet and the left-back in the bin, Harry spends the season trying to keep everyone together for one more year. But when the boys are more interested in ‘scoring’ than winning, and the girls are playing games of their own, what chance have they got?

A knockabout comedy about romance and the beautiful game.

DIRECTORS MATT BATEMAN & ADAM GOLDSTEIN

Venue: Theatre

Josh and Isabella are childhood sweethearts. They were meant to spend their gap year together, they were meant to be together forever. But Isabella has now become a boy. A love story about transition, testosterone, and James Dean.
