Always keeping in mind also the benefits for our studentsSeveral offices from the University of Minnesota, Morris, a group of Spanish students, and a range of community members have united to offer a variety of opportunities to integrate Morris growing Hispanic population into the wider community. Recently created interactions include an ESL Program, a Jane Addams project, a soccer league, a Lazos community project, and a Spanish conversation table. I will discuss successes and challenges of these new endeavors and the benefits to students.

4ESLESL program at UMM MorrisVolunteers get 10 hours of training from the Minnesota Literacy Council to become English Language Tutors. Followed up by 6 hours of observations in the classroom.The volunteer instructors: 10 out of the 20 volunteers are majors or minors in SpanishThese volunteers meet once a week to plan their classes and three hours a week to teach. Sixty Hispanics from the community attend ESL classes.
