85. We’ve said practice is important, but make sure it is under exam conditions. The more closely you replicate the real thing, the more prepared you will be.86. Don’t worry about scaling – you can’t control it, you can’t fight it, you can’t play the system. Just work hard and put your best effort in, doing that is always your best chance of success.87. Treat yourself! In the long term, sure, but also in the short term. Have a favourite meal after a good day of study, reward good marks with lollies. Positive reinforcement is a good thing.

"Those who sing, frighten away their ills." — Miguel de Cervantes.

Hello loyal readers! Sorry to say guys that we are back in lockdown again! We have succeeded with this before and we succeed again! Just a couple of quick notes- music pun!1. Lessons with Mr McKee will still run via Webex during regular times- except period four2. Lessons with Bob, Fumiko and Kevin will need to be arranged individually- I am happy to help where needed!3. Practice can still happen! Please keep playing your instruments!!4. If you have left your instrument at school, let me know and we can arrange to have it picked up.5. Although unconfirmed, the Summer Concert is still scheduled for the 16th November- I will confirm ASAP!Thank you all once again for being amazing, resilient and hardworking musicians. The last week and a bit in the PAC has been absolutely AWESOME!

88. Be flexible. Life is messy sometimes and you never get exactly as much time as you plan to work on stuff. Add extras in when you have the time, and don’t stress if you need to cut stuff out of a a study schedule. Go with the flow!89. Learn from mistakes! Never throw out feedback, everything is useful.

Things to help have a Positive MindsetObserving and reframing negative judgements, practicing self-gratitude and trying to cultivate a positive mindset can be handy tools to help us stay positiveWhy don’t you give these a go?1. Negative thoughts – Instead of fighting negative thoughts, try to acknowledge that they are present, and reframe them to be more realistic and adaptive2. Self-gratitude – self-gratitude is about being grateful for yourself, what you have and the life around you3. Positive mindset – Positive psychology principles look at cultivating a positive mindset and learned optimism. As the saying goes, the glass is half full, as opposed to half emptyWhile we are in the midst of a global pandemic, it is not unusual to feel worried, anxious or panicky. It is when these feelings become persistent or pervasive, that it may be time to get support.Try these tips next time you feel worried about the situation1. Talk it out – talking about your worries can help to externalise them and give you new perspectives. It can also help to reduce the burden of your worries2. Focus on something else – Distract yourself and focus on something else instead, such as counting to 100, reading a book or walking in fresh air to help you clear your mind3. Plan for what you can – Write down specific worries you have and try to make a list of all the possible solutions you can think of. Focus on concrete things that you can problem solve or change, rather than circumstances beyond your control…and please remember to reach out if you are struggling. We are all in this togetherJo - Student Wellbeing Worker

Remember that this is not forever, please play your music, listen to music that inspires you, eat good food and get plenty of sunshine! If it is all a bit much, just play your instrument, not for me, but for yourselves- music can be great at giving back.To our musicians, I am proud of you all (as always),With gratitude,Mr McKee.

Conversation Can Change A Life R U OK? Inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully connect with the people around them and start a conversation with anyone who may be struggling with life. You don't need to be an expert to reach out - just a good friend and a great listener. Got a feeling that someone you know or care about it isn’t behaving as they normally would? Perhaps they seem out of sorts? More agitated or withdrawn? Or they’re just not themselves. Trust that gut instinct and act on it. Learn more about the signs and when it's time to ask R U OK? here.By starting a conversation and commenting on the changes you’ve noticed, you could help that family member, friend or workmate open up. If they say they are not ok, you can follow our conversation steps to show them they’re supported and help them find strategies to better manage the load. If they are ok, that person will know you’re someone who cares enough to ask.Use these four steps and have a conversation that could change a life:1. Ask R U OK? 2. Listen 3. Encourage action 4. Check inGETTING READY TO ASKBefore you can look out for others, you need to look out for yourself. And that’s ok. If you're not in the right headspace or you don't think you're the right person to have the conversation, try to think of someone else in their support network who could talk to them.To help you decide whether you’re ready to start a meaningful conversation, ask yourself:

AM I READY?Am I in a good headspace? Am I willing to genuinely listen? Can I give as much time as needed

AM I PREPARED?Do I understand that if I ask how someone’s going, the answer could be: “No, I’m not”?Do I understand that you can’t ‘fix’ someone’s problems?

Do I accept that they might not be ready to talk? Or they might not want to talk to me?

PICKED MY MOMENT?Have I chosen somewhere relatively private and comfy? Have I figured out a time that will be good for

them to chat? Have I made sure I have enough time to chat properly?https://www.ruok.org.au/Leah - Tallangatta Secondary School Nurse
