We hope this TTF event will help you to:

A. Have a strong foundation on the design, implementation and use of M&E results in the NAP process;

B. Identify key challenges, best practices and emerging opportunities related to the monitoring and evaluation of adaptation in the NAP process;

C. Exchange with other countries and bilateral partners on effective ways to conduct and support M&E as part of the NAP process.

Event objectives

M&E Concepts ‘Matching Game’

• Each participant selects a “card”• Each card has either:

a M&E concept a M&E definition a M&E example

• Participants have 5 minutes to find “their match”• Introductions• Place your concept + definition on the wall

*3 groups will be formed by 3 people (concept/definition/example), the rest will be in pairs

Stocktaking Exercise

• Participants work with their country teams• Reflect about what has happened in terms of NAP and

adaptation work in your country since the last TTF (March 2016)

• Each country team gets 3 post its (write only ONE idea per post-it)

• Identify: Key developments or milestones in the NAP

process OR Key adaptation activites or events OR Progress related to M&E of adaptation

• One person from each group places the 3 post-its in the timetable, under the month that corresponds

I Liked - I Missed

• Take a cue card• On one side write “I Liked…”• On the other side write “I Missed…”• Tell us something you enjoyed, and something

TTF Session 1. Participatory Exercise: Setting the Context/What has happened since the last TTFD1. AVO 1.20.17

March 2016

Feb 2017

• Objective: participatory identification of key events and milestones in the broad CC context, and in M&E in particular. It will provide the ‘bigger picture’ for M&E of adaptation in the country/highlighting that it does not take place in a vacuum but need to have a holistic perspective.

• Methodology: Move from the general to the specific. Draw a timeline and place it on the wall, indicating the months since the last TTF until now.-Each participant is given 3 post-its of each color, and is asked to answer the questions below. -One idea per post-it, max 3 post-its per participant, for each round, so they are forced to prioritize-Ask participants to write their COUNTRY in each post-it, so we can have a more clear picture of the differences/similarities

Since the last TTF (MARCH 2016):

• Key events or developments (at INTERNATIONAL level) that have influenced the cc adaptation agenda in your country? [write, then place in the month that corresponds, on the wall]• Key events or developments (at NATIONAL level) that have influenced the cc adaptation agenda in your country? [write, then place in the month that corresponds, on the wall]• Key milestones achieved in regards to CC Adaptation/NAP process [write, then place in the month that corresponds, on the wall]

DEFINITION

DEFINITION

CONCEPTCONCEPT

CONCEPT

• Objective: participatory overview of key concepts related to M&E of adaptation• Methodology:

-Ask participants to select a card. Each card would have either a definition, or a concept.-In a limited amount of time (five minutes?) they have to find the person that has the matching card.-There are 3 ‘trios’: concept, definition and examples. -Once they find their ‘match’, participants have to talk to each other and find some other thing that they may have in common- ‘double match’-The first 2 ‘matches’ (one pair, one trio) win a price (candy)-Ask all matches to stick their cards together on the ‘concept’s wall’ (a space in the meeting room where we could leave those concepts on the wall as a reminder).-One person of each pair is asked to read the concept and the definition out loud, and share what do they have in common.

Different color post-its

for each round:

M&E of Adaptation

• First Round: What are the opportunities/advantages of M&E of adaptation?

• Second Round: What are the main challenges?• Third Round: What are the solutions to those challenges?• To conclude: Looking ahead, which idea of those placed in the

poster would you like to highlight?

TTF Session 4. Overview. Participatory Exercise: Overview of M&E of AdaptationD3. AVO 1.26.17

• Objective: participatory discussion on M&E of adaptation, based on key elements of the M&E process. Foster co-learning and involvement.

• Methodology: Organize participants in WGs (6 or 7 per group). Mix countries (ask them to number themselves from 1 to 4 (or 5?), and then divide them according to the number.

• Facilitator (AVO) explains the exercise, including explanation of what each ‘theme’ • The diagram above is drawn (previously) on a flip-chart size paper, and placed in the middle of each WG

table. When indicated, participants flip the paper. AVO starts with the ‘first round’ of questions• Participants respond to the questions individually, writing one idea per post it. After that, they place their

ideas in the ‘branch’ (theme) that is most appropriate. For example, if they write the idea ‘learning’, they would place it in the ‘branch’ of ‘Use of M&E results’. Similar ideas should be placed together (clustering)

• Participants can create a new theme to place their ideas if they feel that it is needed. • After the participants place their ideas on the paper, they read them out loud in the WG, one by one• Facilitator will link the results of this exercise with the presentation about the Building Blocks (to follow)

* AVO systematizes the results and presents them briefly during recap Day 2
