task 2

1
People always tell me that I am arrogant. Formerly, I’d respond that I was merely being open and honest about my achievements. Was I not entitled to share and discuss my hard-earned successes? As I grew older, my boasts became more subtle: asking someone about their results allowed me to present my own achievements. But then I grew older still. Thanks to the diverse student population, I met people who were much more talented, more skilled, more intelligent than I was. I realized I’d built my identity and confidence entirely around comparing myself to others. True humility is not about downplaying your strengths, or emphasizing your weaknesses. Now, I try to put the needs of others before my own. I ask how I can help rather than demand respect. I don’t always succeed, but my self-worth is no longer the core of my identity.

People always tell me that I am arrogant. Formerly, I’d respond that I was merely being open and honest about my achievements. Was I

not entitled to share and discuss my hard-earned successes? As I grew older, my boasts became more subtle: asking someone about their results allowed me to present my own achievements.

But then I grew older still. Thanks to the diverse student population, I met people who were much more talented, more skilled, more intelligent than I was. I realized I’d built my identity and confidence entirely around comparing myself to others. True humility is not about downplaying your strengths, or emphasizing your weaknesses.

Now, I try to put the needs of others before my own. I ask how I can help rather than demand respect. I don’t always succeed, but my self-worth is no longer the core of my identity.
