Theme: Architectural Exploration of Salford Quays

Predicted final outcome

When out on my photo shoot at the Salford Quays I will aim to capture a minimum of 50. I will ensure all the images are up to the best quality as possible. At the end of the shoot I will look through my 50 images and chose 10 that I think are up to good standards and stand out from the rest. After I have chosen my images I will decide whether or not they need to be edited in any way. I hope at the end of my production my images will be up to the best standards to advertise Manchester/Salford Quays in the best way possible.

After looking through some portfolios these are my favourite landscape photographers. As you can see the photographers are very similar the only difference is Charlie Waite captures images mostly in the country side whereas Will Barton’s images are mostly of the city. I like how the First two images are simple, capture everything around the main focus and they are very long distance images. These last two images have the traffic involved. In the third image a bus has been caught driving across a bridge. I like how everything else is still but you can clearly see the bus is moving. I also like how in the last image the light trails have been captured through the streets of the city. I will hopefully include some of these skills when taking my own images in Manchester/Salford Quays.

The photo imaging equipment and medium that will be used and why

When taking my 50 images I will be using either a Nikon D3100 or a Canon 7D, these camera will ensure my digital still images will be up to high quality.Nikon D3100 – 14.2 megapixels Canon 7D - 18 megapixels – ISO 6400I will be using some equipment such as a tripod to ensure there if no unwanted movement that could cause my images to be below the standards I want / need.

Techniques that will be used and how they will help convey the visual message

A lot of techniques will be involved when setting my camera for the photo shoot. Shutter speed, ISO, F-stop and framing are the main settings. Shutter speed will depend if the focus in the image is moving or not, also the brightness of the area i will be in at the time. The ISO setting will be adjusted last, this is used is all the other settings are perfect but the image needs to be slightly darker / brighter. F-stop is used mostly letting a certain amount of light through the lens; this also affects the depth of field within the image. The framing is important as it will depend what the main focus will be at the time and what we will see within the frame. I will ensure all of these settings are set up to good standards so the images positively promote Manchester / Salford Quays. Editing the images could change the visual message, for example I could take an image that is full of light but then edit it to black and white. This could convey the visual message from bright and happy to being quite dull.

ManchesterSalford Quays

This map shows the main areas within the Salford Quays area. A lot of the buildings here have a large purpose. Media City is based here with the BBC and the newly built ITV; because of the new buildings around here everything looks quite modern. This shows Salford Quays in a great way and will positively advertise towards its audience in the best way possible. I will be taking images all the areas of Salford quays both the old and modern architecture.
