First Assignment: 100 Line drawingsWhat is a 100 Line Drawing

My first three 100 Line drawings

How I created each drawing

100 Line

DrawingsWhat is a 100 Line Drawing?

A 100 line drawing is a artistic method where the artist makes one stroke at a time to form the shape of the object that they are observing. The goal of this method is to not drawing the actual outline of the object be-ing observed. Instead of drawing the out-line of the object, the artist uses each line to correct or continue the lines made prior in order to maintain the proper shape of the object. The other goal of 100 line drawings is to use 100 lines to create your object, how-ever, you do not always have to use that ex-act amount of lines.

To create my first 100 line drawing I used the paint brush tool with black coloring. I started off using hori-zontal lines that matched the shape of my object. After I made enough lines to match the shape and size of my object I did the same thing using vertical lines. The object I was trying to create is a vase.

Page 5: Task By Taylor Sims

To create my second line drawing I used the paint brush tool and black coloring. I first used horizontal lines, then vertical line, then diagonal lines in both directions. This 100line drawing is different from the first one I created because this one is darker in hue. because there are more lines on this one, it is easier for the viewer to identify what the object is: a vase.

For my third 100line drawing I used the paint brush tool with black coloring again. This time I did not use horizontal or vertical lines. I decided to use Xs in cre-ating my object. I did not closely align the Xs in this 100line drawing because it makes the object lighter in hue. the object is a vase. I used the spacing of the Xs without allowing the object to look like it had holes in it, to let the viewer know that the actual object is much lighter than black in real life.

In creating this drawing I used the brush tool and different shades of black and white in Art Illustrator. I used Xs to fill in the space of my objects. This drawing includes more than one object because it is a drawing of an entire picture of something. This is a drawing of a picture I took with my cell phone at TGIFriday res-taurant of a Brownie and ice cream dessert. I used the darkest shade to indicate where the brownie was and the closest shade to white to indicate where the vanilla ice cream was. I used different shades of grey to indi-cate the shades of the brownie where it looked 3D. I also used grey to indicate where the two spoons where on each side of the object, and also where the caramel drizzles were.

In creating my next drawing, I also used Xs to take up the space of my object. I used the brush tool and, what I think, was the appropriate shade of grey to match my object in certain areas. My object was 3D, and I tried to help the viewer notice that by the shading and the cor-ner of the object (which the viewer should notice first). My object was a bottle of Strawberry-banana Naked juice- something I drink from.

C e l l u l a r Phone

Using the brush tool in Art Illustrator and various levels of black and white I created a drawing of my cell phone. I used Xs to fill in the back side of my phone. I tried to change the different shades of grey to match my phone case and the camera, speaker and flash that are seen on the back side of my phone. The viewer should see the white circular figure in the middle of the phone case first. Second, the viewer should see the dark grey squares that indicate where the speaker, flash and camera is. This is a drawing of the Samsung Galaxy SIII cellular phone.

Freestyle

In creating this drawing I used the paint brush tool in art illus-trator, as well as different shades of white and black. the viewer should see the object in first and the line in the background second. To control the viewer’s eye, i tried to alternate between dark colored stripes and light colored stripes. I used Xs to fill in the space of the object without having to draw an outline of my object. this object is a mitten (glove).

In creating my next value drawing, I used the paintbrush tool and various shades of black and white. I used Xs to fill in the area of the object. The viewer should see the shaded object in the middle first. Secondly, the viewer should see the line in the background that indicates a table that the object is sitting on. To control the viewers eye, I chose to indicate what direction the light source is coming from by using the closest color to white. This is a drawing of a vase.

Something I Drank From

(Remake)

In the meetings we had with our professor, we were assigned to redo a few of our art pieces so that we have more pictures to put into this magazine at the end of the semester. The first time I created a bottle for the value drawings my classmates and professor said that it was not much of a value drawing because i did not use the shades of black and white to indicate highlights and shadows. This second picture is an image of a coke bottle on a round table. I used different shades of black and white to show which direction the light source was coming from. I also used different layers to separate the bottle from the table and the wall in the background.

In creating the drawing above, I used the paint brush tool and var-ious shades of red and gree. The viewer should see the rectangle first, the shift between red and green in the middle of the rectan-gle second, and then the crazy background third. To control the viewer’s eye, I made the background with swirls since the object was supposed to look like it had a smooth surface. This is a com-plementary drawing of a Five Star notebook using red and green.

In creating the drawing on the right, I used the paint brush tool and various shades of red and orange. The viewer should see the rectangle in the middle of the page first, and the colorless back-ground second. I tried to control the viewer’s eye by not giving the background any color the first time i made this art piece. Once i gave the background some color, I tried to use brown as a darker shade of read so that the background would have some correlation to the notebook. I also controlled the viewer’s eye by using differ-ent lines that are not the same as the rectangle. This is a analogous drawing of a Five Star notebook.

In the drawing above, I used the paintbrush tool to create an object and its background. I also used various shades of red. The viewer should see the rectangular shape in the middle of the page first. next the viewer should see the color of the rectangle going from dark to light (left to right). To control the viewer’s eye, I colored the object with more smooth strokes and the background with less organized strokes.Once I edited this art piece, i used different colors in the background that would make the color on a certain part of the notebook stand out more. For example, i used a dark color (blue) in the background because the closest part of the notebook was a very light color. The object in this drawing is a Five Star notebook. The goal of this drawing was to make a monochromatic drawing from observa-

My Back-Pack

I chose to draw my Back pack in the corner of a room with circular pattern on the walls. The back pack was drawn from observation near a lamp. I did not actually observe the back pack in the corner of a room. I created a random background with a random wallpaper color and patterns. I used the paintbrush tool and different colors in Art Illustrator to create this image. I used different layers to control the viewer’s eye so that the viewer can see the book bag in the foreground and the gray and black walls in the background so that the entire image could look more realistic. I also used different shades of colors to create highlights and shad-ows to indicate the direction of the light source.

Chapter 4

Page 32: Task By Taylor Sims

I created this piece using an application called Procreate on an iPad. I used various colors and brush stroke sizes to complete this drawing. This was an observational drawing and each piece was presented in front of me one-at-a-time. In this drawing I decided to use hues along with shades to make the drawing come to life. The viewer should see the brown box on the bottom first, then the white box and lastly, the wine bottles on top. To control the viewer’s eye I tried to make sure that the viewer knew that the light source was coming from the left side of the objects. This is an image of two boxes placed on top of each other and variously placed wine bottles. These images are screenshot of steps I took to ceate the finish product.

This piece was created using the Procreate application on an iPad. I started off trying to make a picnic table with different plates of food n it. I was unsure how to execute the different dimensions well enough for the viewer to understand what was I was trying to do. I chose to draw a picture of a picture i saw o the internet instead. I used different brush sizes, colors, and background layers in my drawing. The viewer should see the Brown object first, then the grass and the flowers in the back-ground second. To control the viewer’s eye, i tried to make extra detail on the fruit and bread to indicate which direction the light source came from. I also used different layers and shades of colors to indicate where certain parts of the object overlap. This is a drawing of a picnic basket with grapes and bread inside

Using the Procreate application on the iPads, the class took notes on how to switch from making lines to making shapes. I used different colors to represents different categories: location, point, shape, and lines. The first set of notes on the upper left-hand side of the page gives instructions on how to use certain tools in Art Illustrator on the Mac computers. The second set of notes on the upper right-hand side gives specific examples of the differences between lines and shapes. The third set of notes exemplify the difference be-tween form and function. It also includes a sample of me practicing a way that I could make my own font. This entire assignment (note taking) was present-ed to help us with our next assignment, which was to create our own font and letter sets.
