    Partition Walls Supported by Weyerhaeuser Edge and Edge Gold Floor Panels

    The table below gives the allowable parallel partition wall loads in pounds per linear foot (plf) that Edge and Edge Gold floor

    panels can support before blocking or additional TJI

    Joists must be added.

    GENERAL NOTES Table is based on:

    PS2 OSB panel properties. Panel strength axis oriented perpendicular to supports, 1.5" (minimum) wide panel supports and industry support adjustments. Worst case of 2 or 3 span condition for panel. Worst case of shear, bending, total load, and live load deflection controls. Deflection limits of L/360 live load and L/240 total load.

    Uniform floor loads of 40 psf live / 5 psf dead (OSB + pad + carpet weights) with the live load beneath the partition wall omitted. For loading conditions not represented in the table above, please contact your Weyerhaeuser representative.

    To calculate the partition wall load in pounds per linear foot (plf); simply multiply the accumulation of material weights (expressed inpounds per square foot psf) by the wall height. For example, say the assumed wall weight is approximately 12 psf and it is 8 feet high:12 psf x 8 = 96 plf.

    Once you have an estimated partition wall load, simply compare it to the values in the table above for your application. For instance,you may have 23/ 32" (24" o.c.) panels supported by floor framing a t 24" o.c. This floor panel can support a partition wall load of 96 plf ,which is equal to the estimated wall weight of 96 plf determined above; therefore, the panel is adequate. If the estimated wall weight isgreater than the allowable value given in the table above, use a thicker panel, blocking or place an additional joist under the partitionwall.

    Keep in mind that the adjacent floor joists must also be checked to confirm that they can carry the additional load from the wall.Assume the floor framing for the example above is 11 " TJI 360 joists at 24" o.c. and spanning 14 ft designed at 50 psf total load (40psf live and 10 psf dead). Determine the total floor load by multiplying floor total load by the on-center spacing minus half the wallwidth and then add half the wall weight. The wall thickness is: 3.5" (wall plate) + 2( " gypsum board) = 4.5". Total plf on a joist is: 50 psfx (24" o.c. 4.5"/2)/12 = 91 plf. Plus half the wall weight (from above): 91 plf (floor load) + 96 plf/2 (wall load) = 139 plf. Compare thisvalue to the floor load tables in the Trus Joist Specifiers Guide TJ-4000 to find that the TJI Joist in this example can support 139 plftotal load. Using the same calculation above, the live load must also be checked. The applied live load is 40 psf x (24" o.c. 4.5"/2) = 73plf, which is less than the 136 plf allowable live load found in the specifiers guide. As long as the applied load is less than or equal to theallowable load, the TJI Joist is adequate. You can also use iLevel design software to check your joist against the loads for your specificconditions.
