Standard 1Literacy
This assignment sheet was created to better harness literacy in regards to art description and self-assessing ones own artwork.
Standard 2Math Integration
Students worked with their skill using 1 point perspective and used measurements to create a word that described them. All of their letters had to be equal width and equal distance apart. I used information on the greatest common divisor to help teach the spacing in-between the letters. This was a very detail oriented project for my eight graders. In the past I have done this project with high school level students.
Standard 3Standards and Assessment
Jordan and I discussed a lot about the use of rubrics in the grading of my art projects. I have a variety of rubrics that I have made this year that both challenge students and grade fairly.
Standard 4Knowledge of Content AreaThis year I tried to make our
program more in the spotlight in the community.
Artist of the Month Contribution to the Lost Creek Guide (3)
6 Students had artworks displayed in the Morgan County Community College Art Gallery
Submissions to other local and national level scholarship and art galleries.
Standard 5Classroom and Instructional Management
Love and Logic SeminarI learned a lot about
classroom management and some tips and tricks Enforceable
Statements One Liners Being consistent “Happy people take
risks. Not to achieve. To Learn”
“Life is about making mistakes and fixing them”
Standard 6Individualization of InstructionI worked with Melissa a lot on individualizing
instruction for my students. We decided that there are so many objectives a
project can contain and that there are varying degrees in which a student can accomplish those objectives.
If one student tries really hard and puts the effort in but still results in a project that is not stellar then they should still be rewarded for their work. This kind of thinking applies to students that may have
an accommodation, RTI plan or IEP. These students can still do well in a project even if they are at a disadvantage somehow.
Standard 7Incorporating TechnologyDuring this year I started
using a program with my seventh graders called Scratch. It is run through MIT and is completely free.
It is a very basic way to begin learning how to code programs or games.
After watching some tutorials online I decided to introduce it to my classes and they have really enjoyed it. I hope to use it more next year.

Goal 1 – Re-aligning my CurriculumJordan and I discussed
using a more core classroom approach to my curriculum. Because of this I have adjusted my projects into units rather than individual projects. The units lasted for much longer than a project and could help scaffold skills and objectives as students completed each project.
