Lesson Plans

• Important to remember:– Kids need many changes of state– Attention spans = very short– Focus on fun and interaction– Make teacher-centered talking a very short part of

class– Kids need routine to feel safe. How can you

provide a consistent structure for most of your lessons?

Two Resources

Your challenge . . .

• Is to create a 50-minute Young Learner lesson plan with your partner(s)

• Figure out a way to represent your plan on poster paper with symbols or drawings

• You’ll share your plan with us

PUNISHMENT / BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION

When a student breaks a rule, always ask:

• “Which rule did you break?”

• “Why is it important to follow this rule?”

• Bad Behavior Prevention: Randomly “catch” students obeying rules; praise them in front of the class and explain which rule they were following

7. Invest in materials that you can re-use again and again!

8. “Steal” from other teachers!

9. Join TESOL! Be active in it!

10. Never stop evaluating yourself, but know when to praise yourself, too!
