"Intrepid teams will set off in four wheel drive vehicles, with a map, a set of clues and a treasure chest. Navigating their way through uncharted territory, they will discover strange places and amazing sights, and record their adventures in a picture journal for prosperity to be reviewed back at base. Along the way they will solve riddles, answer questions and negotiate with the locals to bring artefacts from their travels."

Thailand

At each place, teams race to complete a picture challenge by following an enigmatic instruction connected with the area to take photographs to be evaluated later and bargain with the locals to obtain a list of traditional cultural treasures for the best prices. Points are scored for locating the sites and solving the riddles, finding answers to questions, time-keeping, photographic interpretation and bargaining skills.

The treasure hunt locations often change depending on the duration of the event, but always include temples, waterfalls and sites of local myth and legend such as Big Buddha, Tar Nim’s Magic Garden, Hin Ta Hin Yai, the mummified monk and Laem Sor Pagoda.

The group will be divided into teams of up to ten participants. Each team will be provided with maps of the island and a series of cryptic clues and challenging instructions. There are a number of famous or infamous cultural landmarks and curious places to find and discover, each one identified and pinpointed on the map by solving a mysterious and fiendish puzzle. As they explore, the teams will get the chance to locate and visit the most exciting, beautiful and interesting locations on the island.

The treasure hunt may be done with either 4 wheel drive transport, or as an added challenge, using public transport which will further test team’s ability to plan, cooperate, communicate and bargain. In this case, the fund of money the teams begin with must be used to get the team around an unfamiliar place, as well as buy the items they need.

At each site, in addition to a cryptic question and an answer, the delegates also face a cryptic clue to make a photograph. The teams have to interpret the instructions and create a work of art.

In the debriefing back at the hotel, each team will vote for the best picture for further points to the overall rankings. During the debrief, the photographs are always a great sharing experience with the other teams, and a CD of the whole event makes a unique reminder of a special day.

In this activity, teams are given a limited amount of money, and a treasure list. Their task is to find the items and then to bargain for the items. Because money and time is at a premium, it takes teamwork and negotiation skills to be successful. The items are cultural and represent the flavour of the location. They represent the ‘treasure’ for the race, and make great souvenirs.
