What is Relay for Life? -- Kaitlin
Relay is the American Cancer Society’s (ACS) national fundraiser.
Founded in 1985 by Gordy Klatt as a personal fundraiser for ACS, walking 24 hours.
The event has grown and now annually 3.5 million people participate worldwide.
Only requirement is a $10 commitment fee, but $100 fundraising goal is recommended as a minimum.
Relay at Utk -- Logan
2001: founded on campus
In April, we doubled our 2008 earnings
Held in Circle Park from 6pm- 6am
Bands, food, and games frequent our main event.
Hold many other events throughout the year.
This year:
• Will be held April 16-17
• Dodgeball Tournament: Nov. 15: 1-4
• Great American Smoke-out
• Swim for Life

23.1% of U.S. deaths are cancer related, making cancer the 2nd leading cause of death.
As of 2005, 11.1 million Americans have had a history of cancer.
Survival rate from cancer has risen from 50% in the mid 1970’s to 66% in the 2000’s.
