Team of Calderón / Delgado RLD Studio, Inc. 5684 Ash Street Los Angeles CA 90042 Tel: 323.243.9526 www.titodelgado.com [email protected] This is a Statement of Interest for the Pennsylvania Park RFQ. José R. Calderón ([email protected] www.rudecalderon.com 626 673-0955) and Roberto L. Delgado (Lead Artist) are applying as a team. We see this project as a canvas where our own and the community’s creativity can be expressed in classic and innovative mixed–media techniques. We are open to all media and lean towards a melding of native stone and worked bronze with fired ceramic – metal and earth. As you can see by Image 10, we have successfully used these elements (Salt Lake City Winter Olympics Downtown Renovation Project, Project Manager Nancy Boskoff, 801-596-5000, [email protected] , the University of Montana School of Pharmacy project, PM Cherí Long, 406-444-0429, [email protected] , and the step risers for the Fremont City Jail, PM Irene Jordahl, 510-494-4228 [email protected] ). We would use Delgado’s ceramic murals and paver tile work (Image 3, the cut-tile murals for the Valley METRO Main St. Station, Mesa AZ, MB Finnerty, [email protected] and Image 6, the Minneapolis-St. Paul Light Rail Green Line Project, Project Manager Alicia Vap, [email protected] 651-602-1961) and Calderón’s stonework (Images 1, Crescent Bay Park in Laguna Beach CA, Sian Poeschl [email protected] 949-4970722; Image 2, the Burbank CA- Incheon, South Korea, Sister Cities Project, Port of Incheon, Krista Dietrich, 818.238.5567, [email protected] ; and Image 7, East Los Angeles Civic Center, Teresa Sanchez, AIA, Principal, Gruen Associates, 323.937.4270, [email protected] ). Tile work can be integrated into all media. All paver tile work conforms to USADA slip-trip code. The theme of the artwork would focus on the history and mission of the Airport, the people of the area, their history, and their culture. The essence of the tile work is the airbrush-over-photosilkscreen. A pedestrian-friendly “pavement gallery”, would surround the sculpture using this technique. We estimate this project can contain some 200 photo images of various sizes. There is a design phase during which we visit to research the community’s culture and history, take photos, talk to the people, and look into archives. Audio-visual show & tell and Q & A with local schools and community centers would be arranged. This is not only useful as a design resource, but serves to develop a sense of participation in the project, giving the youth and their families a proprietary interest in the Park’s artwork. Current commissions include tile work for the Charlotte Police Dept. Hickory Grove Station (Todd Stewart 704.335.3273 [email protected]), sculpture and tile work for the 4 th District Court of Appeals, West Palm Beach (Lee Modica [email protected] 850-766-7117), and tile work for the Point Loma Fire Station 22 in San Diego, California (PM Christine Jones 619-236-6661 [email protected]).
