The Components of Fire
The Fire Triangle:
FUELHEAT
IF ONE OF THE COMPONENTS IS REMOVED FIRE CANNOT EXIST
AIR (OXYGEN)
General Fire Safety Slide 6
![Page 7: TEAM TALK GENERAL FIRE SAFETY General Fire Safety Slide 1](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022062300/56649e395503460f94b29cf6/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
The Fire Triangle
Sources of Heat Friction, electricity, flames (burning
matches, cigarettes, gas flame), heating systems, hot surfaces (e.g. light bulbs near a curtain)
Sources of Fuel (combustible materials) Paper, cardboard, wood, oil, furniture,
clothes, chemicalsSources of Oxygen
Oxygen is everywhere

Sources of Fire
Faulty electrical equipment Deep fat fryers overheating Cigarettes dropped and left to smoulder on
furniture Open flames on stoves Gas explosions Flammable materials stored near to a heat source
General Fire Safety Slide 8
Fire can start for many reasons including:-
![Page 9: TEAM TALK GENERAL FIRE SAFETY General Fire Safety Slide 1](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022062300/56649e395503460f94b29cf6/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
Combustible Items
They must not be stored in corridors or stair wells or in electrical cupboards because:
Routes must be kept clear of items at all times
If they are burning they may trap someone
If there is a spark they could catch light and start a fire (electrical cupboards)
They are accessible for arsonists
General Fire Safety Slide 9

Methods of Fire Extinction
Remove one side of the triangle
Remove the heat or cooling
Remove the fuel or starving
Remove or limit the air/oxygen or smothering
General Fire Safety Slide 10

How Can Fire Spread?
Conduction e.g. metal heating from one end to the other setting something alight
Convection e.g. hot air rises increasing the temperature
Radiation e.g. rays of the sun can set fire to things through glass
Physical Transport e.g. burning materials falling onto new sources of fuel
General Fire Safety Slide 11
![Page 12: TEAM TALK GENERAL FIRE SAFETY General Fire Safety Slide 1](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022062300/56649e395503460f94b29cf6/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
