`Extreme Networks Summit X460 Product Release

What is Summit X460The Summit X460 series switch is a versatile, high-end Gigabit Ethernet switch for data centre, enterprise

edge/aggregation, and Carrier Ethernet deployments. Summit X460 helps optimise application performance for

a variety of network deployments with its rich features and high scalability. Summit X460 provides high density

for Gigabit Ethernet, with copper, PoE-plus or fibre interfaces in a very small 1RU form factor for up to 52 ports in

one system and 416 ports in a stacked system using backward compatible 40 Gbps SummitStack, 80 Gbps

SummitStack-V80or SummitStack-V which enables stacking via 10 GbE links for lower cost and longer reach.

Summit X460 also offers 10 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity for up to two ports in one system and 16 ports in a

stacked system with the industry standard SFP+ interface.

The ExtremeXOS operating system provides high availability and simplicity with one OS everywhere in the network.

Summit X460 comes in six different configurations (10 including DC versions) and provides flexible options depend-

    ing upon a customers installations.

For emerging demands from data, storage, voice, and data convergence, highly scalable Layer 2/3 switching and

MPLS/H-VPLS by supporting up to 32K Layer 2 MAC addresses or 12K IPv4 Longest Prefix Match routing tables.

Summit X460 enables data centre, enterprise and Carrier Ethernet aggregation and core backbone deployment in

AC-powered and DC-powered environments. Summit X460 simplifies network operation with ExtremeXOS modular

OS, available across Extreme Networks Ethernet switches.

The Summit X460 can hold up to two hot swappable power supplies that work in a redundant or load shared con-

figuration. In the centre of the rear panel, is a removable fan module which is field replaceable and hot swappable. In

the left of the rear panel, there two slots (slot A and slot B) to provide a variety of connectivity options for the Sum-

mit X460. By default, the Summit X460 does not come with an option module. One power supply is included with

    each Summit X460 switch.

    Slot A:

XGM3-2sf can be installed, which is a 2-port, 10 Gigabit Ethernet SFP+ module. XGM3-2sf can support both 10 Giga-

bit SFP+ optics as well as Gigabit SFP optics.

    Slot B:

SummitStack module or SummitStack-V80 module can be installed.

Extreme Networks Summit X460 Product ReleaseStacking SupportThe Summit X460 supports SummitStack and SummitStack-V80 with an optional stacking module. The SummitStack

module provides compatible 40 Gbps stacking available on switches such as Summit X250e/X450e/X450a/X460/

X480 and X650 and SummitStack-V80 provides high speed stacking at 80 Gbps. The stacking cable solution is QSFP+

passive copper cable, QSFP+ active fibre cable and QSFP+ optics.

With the introduction of ExtremeXOS 12.5.1 release, SummitStack-V will be introduced where a stacking port can be

alternated to a 10 Gigabit Ethernet port. SummitStack-V is available on all stackable Summit X series switches with

10 Gigabit Ethernet Ports and running the same version of ExtremeXOS.

What are QSFP+ cables?QSFP+ cables allow the transmission of up to 40Gbps data rate. The QSFP+ form factor (Quad SFP+) can

replace up to four standard SFP+ connections, providing greater density and reduced system cost. QSFP+

cable is for 40 Gigabit Ethernet stacking technology provided by Extreme Networks. For the Summit X460, the

QSFP+ cables are for SummitStack-V80 stacking, using 20Gbps data rate (half the max capacity) to stack

multiple switches for up to eight switches, thereby increasing the number of ports available. The QSFP+ cables

are passive copper and active optical cables shown below. In general, passive copper cables have shorter

    reaches than active optical cables.
